  1. Ive found from fishing my entire life without a boat that the species that is most readily available to be caught from shore in almost any river or lake is pike. Bass as well, but bass tend to be in more specific spots (rocky sections, weedy sections), whereas pike can basically be found in areas that are quite deep to hardly an water at all and in areas with no structure to areas full of weeds or timber. So, like it or not, I would definately say that my most caught/targeted fish for me is for sure pike.
  2. yeah, that is definately a whitefish. And a nice sized one at that.
  3. I just spent 3 nights camped on crown land. The lake I was on had a few sites on crown land that had been made into nice spots. They had fire pits, some open areas for tents, etc. Ours had an old burned out woodstove and a couple old grills for the fire. We just found this site by chance and over the next few days found a few other sites scattered over the lake. Kinda like the camping sites in the interior of Algonquin. I know that before we got there we were thinking we could just pull over the boat anywhere that we wanted and just make a camp.... Well, the vegetation is so thick of trees and bushes that its physically impossible to do it. Thank god we found one of the sites used by campers like ourselves.
  4. When you are attaching your worm harness to the bottom bouncer, do you need to tie on a few feet of line between the bouncer and the harness to get the harness away from the bouncer? Or do you just clip the harness straight to the bottom bouncer?
  5. express168, dont worry, i will defiinately send you the original back as soon as I return. I have a fax/photo copier here, so I shoudl be be able to reproduce it no problem. I will try to produce a copy for myslef but I will deffinately send the orignal back to you. Thx so much for you genourous gesture. Beats
  6. Gerry, thx for the detailed advice for a few good spots. I will be sure to head that way and give them a shot.
  7. We aren't completely sure exactly how things are gonna be yet, but so far it looks like we are going to be renting a 16 ft boat/motor from Temagami Riverside Lodge and most likely just camping on crown land around the lake for the few days we are there. We dont have a clue where we will be heading on the lake yet. But pickerel will be the main targeted fish.
  8. I have my reel spooled with I believe 8 lb Vanish. ITs the gold coloured one. I honestly bought it more to check out the vanish preoperty of the line than the fact that it was Fluoro. I have to say that I personally like it quite a bit. I have never had any issues so far with it. When I put it on last season I was pretty much only fishing for pike. Right off the bat I was sceptical to using this line for pike since you can feel that it is quite a thin line with a small diameter to it. I wasn't concerned about the strength of the line, but I was very concerned (since I rarely use a leader for pike) that the pike would chomp right through it. Happy to say that on the few outings I used it last fall, I never had it brake or a pike bite through it after catching 4-6 pike without retying. The vanish factor of the line is really cool and Ive had ppl comment on it not knowing it was vanish. One more thing, I remember that the biggest difference I noticed right away was that I was casting much further and the line was spooling off extremely easily and slick.
  9. Hi, a friend and I will be going fishing for a few days on Red Cedar Lake, south of Temagami, in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone has either fished there before or has any info on the lake. Im wondering about lake depth, how heavily its fished, general fishing info/experiences on the lake. I know there are pickerel, sm bass, perch, whitefish, and supposedly some lakers in there as well. Any info would be great.
  10. I am hoping to get some pointers/advice towards trying for some Thames river pickerel this spring. For the last couple of years I have gone out to various locations such as the Fanshawe Dam, Delaware, various random spots.. all with no luck. Lots of ppl out fishing but I have never even seen one caught, My Dad tells me back in the 70's he used to catch them around Deleware with little effort and they were apparently large in size. Im pretty sure that the fish dont come in numbers as much as generations before, but they must still be coming. A friend has caught a few at the fanshawe dam a few years back, but other than that it really appears to be alot of ppl fishing and not alot of fish being caught. Im not asking anyone to give away their spots or anything, but can anyone confirm that the fish do come up in numbers of any size? I usually just try the old twister tail jig (white or yellow) with a jighead.
  11. Thx for the replies everyone. I'll look into it in more detail on the weekend.
  12. hey there, I am in need of some advice for some new ice fishing rods/reels. I currently have 2 ultralight rods/reels that I use for perch but I am now looking to get atleast one rod/reel for lakers/whitefish/pike. I fish a local pond that has mostly 1-5 lb pike in it and currently only have a tipup that has appropriate line on it for fishing there. Im hoping someone can recommend a good pole and reel , either an exact model or a general idea is fine. The other day I saw 2 ppl catching pike at this location and they were using approx. 4 foot long poles that were bright orange and while the poles appeared to be thick from a distance, they bent over quite a bit with a 2-3 lb pike on. Are long poles better? Thanks in advance.
  13. i believe you are possibly referring to a fish cradle that also measures the fish. Im sure someone can post a pic or give you more info.
  14. i suppose I was a tad vague. I dont think the things im looking for are hard to find in stores, I just cant find them online. Im looking for lures/jigs that are popular on Simcoe for lakers/whitefish. I keep seeing reports of ppl using bad boyz(sp?) and jigs but when I go to sites and type thses names in, I get nothing. I dont have a tackle shop nearby, so im resorting to online shopping if possible. I couldnt seem to find the larger jigs (2 inches?) on the jigs site. I was kinda hoping there was one site that I could order all these things from without having to spcial order them through a manufacturer.
  15. Hello, I'm trying to find a good online place to shop specifically for ice fishing lure/baits. Im interested in finding and purchasing some jigs ( the larger ones), swedish pimple, badd boyz (sp?) . I cant seem to find an online store that has them all, or even a couple of them. BPS, Cabelas, random others dont seem to have these products. Even teh jigs site didnt seem to advertise the larger jigs, or else I didnt see them. Thx in advance.
  16. Can anyone tell me a place online I can order some pickerel rigs? I was using one last winter exclusively on one rod while ice fishing Simcoe last year, with success. I have the one I used still but its old and missing one hook. I can seem to find them at BPS or cabelas online. below is a description of what im looking for, for those who don't know what one is. I found this description while searching goole. " Canadian Pickerel Rig This is one of the oldest live-bait rigs ever created to help anglers use live bait near bottom. It consists of a monofilament leader to which there is attached two swiveling thin, steel shafts, each having a length of mono line attached to the end of a single hook. At the end of the leader is a snap which is designed to be used with a bell-sinker. The metal arms keep the monofilament leaders and hook away from the main leader. The Canadian Pickerel Rig is popular with walleye anglers that still-fish or drift with live bait in deeper water or current. Live minnows are the best choice for this rig."
  17. Nice going with all those fish! Though, if I can make a suggestion... Don't post your pics with the name of the location in the filename...
