NF What to do if your vehicle goes through ice
mr blizzard replied to woodenboater's topic in General Discussion
Above are so very true, but you also have to call CAA and open up your cheque book You shake your head at the chances some people take on the ice. When we fished on Lake Simcoe over the years it was not uncommon to see people with kids in the vehicle jump open pressure cracks just to get to "thee" spot -
Judging by his coat colours he should be fishing for rainbows instead......and really......what's wrong with his reel??????????? . the floatation one is pretty good........

We had the exact same problem with HH regarding our patio door that we had ordered in July.....We ordered the patio door from HH...the kicker was the patio door manufacture rep was at the store up here for a promo. Went over all the details..........2 months not 2 weeks later the door arrives and is delivered to our house, WRONG OPENING, the store refused to do anything about it, and this store is NOT part of the HH association, ...an independent. The manufacturer agreed to exchange the door but HH refused to pick up till after their inventory, I said when is that, they replied 2 months from now, go figure, so the manufacturer even tried to get HH to pick it up, they still refused. We took pics of the door outside and said we are refusing any liability for any damage till they pick it up. November they finally pick up the friigin door. Did we ever get our door no,,,,,,they say they cant get one to us till june........oh to have a Rona or Home Depot. -

X2 People who are on this board enjoy any or all aspects of fishing hunting and photography. I believe we all enjoy nature and the outdoors. When someone takes the time to share some of their experiences it should be encouraged, thats what makes this board what it is. . Blizz

I used to like u misfish lol, as we were from Barrie and all . Winter is awesome at least up here. Still -40 windchills at night. Went up to a balmy -24 today, enough to melt off the frost from the windows, can see outside again . Colder air coming here again next week thankfully, We'll try to send some more down you way for those hard water fishermen and women. Nature walks are those romantic gushy things you do in the summer .lol

Is the pipe exposed at all where it is coming into the house. When we lived in Barrie I used to work on some of the cottages in Muskoka. Some of the heat lines were thermostaticaly controlled and would not come on till the temps dropped it enough to activate the heat line. By then the water lines were already froze. Up here the homes have a circ pump. What it does is simply continuously circulate water in the lines so they dont freeze. Now remember we are on city water and do not have a pump that has to draw water into the house but u should be able to make a loop from inside your house to the outermost side of where it is freezing, like a loop on a rollercoaster but sideways and in the ground of course. The circ pump is about the size of your fist. Is there any insulation around the pipe as it enters the house. Maybe any exposed block on your foundation is allowing the cold air to penetrate down to where your pipe comes in. Hope this helps in some way. Blizz

Nice pics, great way to spend the day with family, nice to see some of the cold air is finally making its way down to you to make some decent ice.

How to get the PMs attention new rules for all Canadians
mr blizzard replied to mr blizzard's topic in General Discussion
I did not get all the names from cbc north tonight but please try to get it on the computor. Stella a native was given x number of dollars every 2 weeks for what she does. The cheif offered her extra for an extra bit of work he wanted her to do. She refused and said this is to much money, it is better spent in our being native community. The other band members agreed and they went to the hall to talk to the cheif about this, he refused to show up and would not talk to the media. It is cbc north nwt. Thanks it is nice to see some of the conscientous natives are becoming aware that the cheifs are taking the cream off the milk. -

How to get the PMs attention new rules for all Canadians
mr blizzard replied to mr blizzard's topic in General Discussion
I have enjoyed reading all the comments and thank the mods for keeping it open. I live in a subdivision setting up here. I have native neighbours living in homes on either side of me and we get along very well. They both were tired of the dual standards. They decided to go out on their own. The one neighbour told me very clearly, alot of natives up here choose to stay on the reserves because they are afraid they will lose their heritage which he mentioned would mean they might lose some of the extras. He mentioned I have it best, I have benefits given to me for being native, I get to enjoy the freedom of living in Canada and he said what alot of people on the reserves forget is you can actually go out and work to make money to pay for a house, groceries and your bills. He mentioned that when the diamond and gold mines opened up here and yes they had to dig a few holes and disrupt a bit of dirt, remembering these ventures came about from money from the Canadian govt as well as foreign investores the natives are given funding from these mines and if you care to go and check out BHP Billitons web site preferential hiring is given to 7 or 8 native groups first. And if you are lucky enough to get into one of these mines if a native applies for a job you are doing he can bump u out as per to the hiring practices. As the neighbour mentioned it should be the best qualified gets the position period. When u look at the size of the 3 territories it encompasses as much land as the rest of Canada with just a trickle of the population. As the neighbour half jokingly mentioned, our ancestors were good on foot but there is no way we could have covered all of this land. We all have ancestors, we all have roots. Every nationality in this great country can be proud of their background but we should all have to play by the same rules and make this country great not just in properity but also in a rich cultural background. It has been a terrific read with great input. -

Listen to the weatherman ... please!
mr blizzard replied to Bassassins's topic in General Discussion
Good for u, the weathermen are wimps back east, when they give the forecast from Oakville lol, I've saw one of them wear earmuffs at -2. If I can figure out how to download pics from our digital I have some showing fishing with -40 windchill, but in fairness it is much drier up here, do not feel it as much. Good for u, winter is short, get out and enjoy it. Good looking fish.
