  1. Greetings from Yellowknife, was a balmy minus 28 this morning. My son bought a used polaris triple in the summer and got burned to say the least. He is looking at a 2007 skidoo renegade 600 with 4700 km on it. Have any of you had any experiences with this machine good or bad. It appears to be in mint shape. Hope everyone has a great sledding, ice fishing season, thanks Blizz.
  2. Thanks TWOCODA for all the great information, You have helped to lower my blood pressure. . You have done this before, If I had the extra cash I would fly u up here lol. One other question, what should the initial rough opening be for the six foot door. Would it be an extra four inches on either side to allow for the cripple studs, thanks again.
  3. Thanks Chris it is a mobile home on wooden pads as many are up here, some are on steel pilings but ours are on wood pilings, maybe I should support under the door with steel jacks.
  4. Greetings from Yellowknife, sorry for not posting much recently. Been busy trying to fix the mobile house up etc. Only out fishing 3 times, a couple of pike and a few whitefish. I need some expert advice. We bought a 6 foot vinyl patio door. It is going to lead out to the deck. The wall exterior is wood siding. I would appreciate info on building a false wall to support the roof, the size of the header I need, the size of the rough opening etc. We cant afford a contractor up here as we just had our boat shipped up from Ontario, thanks for any assistance. .
  5. Hey Simon once again great pics; to catch fish is a bonus to spend time together outdoors is priceless. After reading your post Ben my son, and I took out some albums with pics of fishing over the past few years. Best times ever. Check your email if u get a chance. Cheers
  6. Amazing day of fishing Simon, good for you, your back on track. Going to have to come back south to fish with you for a day. No whities caught here yet. My son and I enjoyed the video, thanks again, Strangely no one really fishes for whities up here in the winter, hard to find where they are. Alot of whities are caught casting in late summer into fall, alot different from back east. Thanks again for posting the video, we will look for a seat sale. Cheers and the next time u go out catch one for us.
  7. It was a balmy -37 today with the windchill. So a better thing to do? Go fishing ! My son and I decided with the blue skies and -37 windchill we would try our luck at catching dinner. With mother nature blowing the wind at our back, we soon realized that we may have to cave in and eventually buy a clam shell or pop-up. But that silly thinking was thrown out the window when we had a tug on the line. We tagged on to a nice Lake Trout after about 1 hour on the ice. Our new filleting knife will be put to the test tonight. Hope the rest of the country cools off fast to make some hard water. Check out the pic !
  8. Thanks everyone, there are no villages on the ice up here, just great fishing peace and solitude. . It took our family a year or so to make the decision for all the reasons that a family has to consider but I wish we had have done it 10 years ago. We will have pics and stories to follow. DAVE............ lets go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. I want to thank Drifter for taking my son out yesterday pike fishing. If it were not for the OFC we would never have had the pleasure crossing paths with Dave. Because of this we made the move from Barrie to Yellowknife 6 weeks ago. It was a big move but the opportunities here are amazing. As for the recreation and fishing, Daves pics say it all. We look forward to posting more topics and pics as we settle in. To ice fish in early December well it does not get any better....Drifter really knows his stuff. HGope u OFNers back east get some good ice soon, cheers.
  10. Dave thanks for taking my son out yesterday, he had a blast. Hopfully I can get out in a week or so. And for all the readers, Mr Blizzard and his family made the move to Yellowknife from Barrie 5 or 6 weeks ago. If it was not for crossing paths with Dave through the OFC we would never have been able to experience the chance of a lifetime. It was a big move but the opportunities here are amazing. And as for the fishing, unbelievable, the pictures say it all. Look forward to giving more pics and postings again. Mr Blizzard is finally home, ice fishing the beginning of December life is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dave truly knows his stuff.
  11. Hey Dave, nice posting, it sort of takes the rush out of rush hour traffic. .
  12. We are envious, your bad days are better than my best days, congrats, check your email.
  13. Thanks again to everyone who responded, it means alot to us. Thanks again. Irishfield we will do the trip next year.
  14. Thanks MERCMAN. Tight lines.
  15. On behalf of my family I want to give you all a sincere and heartfelt appreciation for your support over the past few years. It was 8 years ago today that our daughter passed away. I had been ice fishing that very morning with my son. My world took a bit of a turn when we got home that day. Needless to say that was the end of ice fishing that season. We have had a great deal of support and healing over time. . I got my son back into hard water fishing gradually as my wife. It took some time to get back to enjoying the thrill of ice fishing as for a while it represented something not so great to my son. Over the years we have overcome that hurdle and are spending some great family time together on the ice again . We finally had a real fish fry last weekend. My son finally this year got that magical tug on the line. A five pound whitie. Sorry I did not have the camera with me, but his smile would have been to large for the screen. Thanks again for the support over the years and I am thankful that we have been able to encourage other members on the board. God bless Jennifer.
  16. Nice job, congratulations and thanks for sharing the video. Well done. There is hope for a laker yet this year. Cheers.
  17. Drifter I am so envious, send some of the cold this way.
  18. Lew you can never have enough winter. Hard water fishing, sitting on a pail with the wind at your back and icicles on your moustache, it does not get any better. And no line ups at the boat ramp. Our winters are getting wimpy enough as it is. Bring on the minus temps again.
  19. Hi there, I was wondering if any fellow members could update the board as to the ice conditions on Muskoka around the Tabboo resort area and also Lake of Bays around Dwight. My wife and I along with my son are finding it a little challenging on Simcoe right now as are others. I sure hope conditions get better for Tyler's tournament. Regardless, I will leave the atv at home and walk out with rubber boots for Tyler. Any updates on the lakes would be great. Thanks and tight lines.
  20. And Joey's recipe for beef jerky rocks. Big Chevy looks larger than life every time we see him, even at the grocery store. Thanks again for all your support, from the lose of our daughter thru to the advice of how to repair our shower stall. It worked, a year later and it is still has not fallen down. Again thank you all and in the words of Montgomery Gentry " It's something to be proud of"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. My son and I wre scanning some other sites regarding fishing. This is why we are so proud to be a member of this board. It is like night and day. This board stands out and way above the others. After scanning the others and it was only for 2 to 3 minutes getting back to the OFC was like coming home after being on the road for 3 weeks. TO EACH AND EVERY FELLOW MEMBER YOUR THE BEST. THANKS TJ as well for all you do.
  22. Thanks, do u know if it would fit a 94 arctic cat jag?
  23. Thanks F7Firecat I will give them a try. Appreciate the assistance.
