Hi all, School is out for summer, let the fun begin! Took my son Jack up to Lac Seul for the first time last year and ever since our last trip in September 2014 he has been bugging to go back, so back we went! Fishing is kind of secondary on these trips but I love them more than my solo outings and given it is Lac Seul I still usually get to slam 25"+ walleye for an hour or so anyway. Here is what we get up to…… video at the bottom of the pictures. WE ALWAYS STOP AT THE SPRING TO FILL THE WATER BOTTLE, THIS YEAR WE THREW THE MINNOW TRAPS IN AT THE CULVERT ACROSS THE ROAD. WE ALSO STOP TO PICK BERRIES ON THE WAY UP, THE BLUEBERRIES WERE STILL GREEN, BUT PLENTY OF WILD STRAWBERRIES AND RASPBERRIES TO MUNCH. ONCE AT THE LAKE WE FISHED FOR THE FIRST HOUR WE THEN HIT THE BEACH FOR A BOAT PICNIC GOOFED AROUND AFTER LUNCH WENT EXPLORING COLLECTED CREATURES FOR JACK'S 'AQUARIUM' (this is Jack's absolute favourite thing about Lac Seul) AND HAD A SWIM WE DID SOME MORE FISHING AFTER OUR SWIM BUT BY 4PM EVERYONE WAS READY TO GO HOME CREATURES WERE RELEASED AT THE LANDING, AND HOMEWARD BOUND VIDEO

Lost for words….sorry for your loss, i'll give Roloff an extra swimming session in the lake tonight in Copper's memory. Cant help but think that Roloff will look like copper does in that great picture of you together. Rainbow Bridge….what a lovely thought.

So true, I was reprimanded severely and publicly shamed (rightly so) for throwing my butts on the ground in an ice fishing post many years ago, and I would be the first person even back then to rant about people leaving garbage everywhere.

Holy schmoly Gerrit…get well soon.

Aint actually selling, was kinda tongue in cheek comment, kinda. I have some land that I am looking into the possibility of splitting up, not sure if its possible but will be finding out. There is a ton of acreage for sale up here. there was a whole island for sale on Wabigoon lake with a cottage and boat, ATV, docks etc. included for $150,000!

Hi all, Went to Lac Seul for the first time this year on Father's Day and the fishing was less than stellar by this lake's standards. The walleye were there but were not playing, and when we found some bass that did want to play my fishing partner that day was less than enthusiastic to play for anymore than 1/2 an hour, especially when I had to break it to him that the bass we were catching were too big to keep because of seasonal size restrictions. So back I went, this time with Roloff my chocolate Labrador, hoping the fish were in a better mood…….

YOU ARE A TRUE FRIEND! -
Yup, bass can be a ton of fun, unfortunately my fishing partner that day did not share my enthusiasm for them, even less so when I informed him we could not keep the ones we were catching because of seasonal size restriction regulations. I went back though the day before yesterday with Roloff my dog, who like me thinks bass fishing is a BLAST! Video of that has just been posted. There is a small weed line, or pockets of weed about 20 to 300 feet from shore that creates a 4 foot barrier before the drop off. The bass were on the shore side of the weed and right up on shore in the rocks. I went back the day before yesterday with exactly what you suggest in mind, they are a blast on surface poppers, I had a rapala popper on. They would follow, two or three at a time but would not commit. Tried various retrieves, speed changes, leaving it dead, cranking it like hell…you name it I tried it, but they did not want to play. I tried a vibrax spinner too, again follows but NADA…….as soon as I went to jig and minnow….WHAM! I was using gulp Alive minnows too…same result….WHAM! Just posted that video in a new thread…'Walleye and Bass with Roloff'.

The way I see it is that there is gonna be stress wherever I am, and I think it is pretty much the same for anyone unless they are a Yogi master, and even then……. So when I am stressed I remind myself do i want to be stressed here……………. or here……………………………..

My boat is sitting too high in the bow.

Get a fat girlfriend to sit up front. -
I could sell you 3 acres right now…unorganized, hydro already here, well or lake pump, build you r own septic. 15 minutes from town, state of the art Hospital, Walmart, CT, Safeway, Tbay and Winnipeg only 4 hours either direction.

Finally got the boat finished...now where r dem walters?

LOL…yup, I am a bit early on that lake though, they were still mostly in the 17' to 8' range. The ones that were in deeper water tended to be suspended half way up the water column. Thanks, still not done completely but the urge to fish and the fact I have an effective bilge pump trumped being patient and doing more tedious work. Next year!LOLOL. Thanks Roy, more to come. I have actually started to pay a little bit more attention to my Youtube account other than just a means to host videos, turns out I could have been making money on them for years…lol. I call it 'X-Box' fishing. lol "been there" 200 times! Sometimes its almost better to know they aint there! -
Hi all, got out for a couple of hours at William's Bay on Lac Seul before rain(and lightning) stopped play. The roads up there are like driving on tarmac almost, right upto the last 200 yards before the landing, whether you come past Silver water wheel route or the William's Creek route. The walleye bite was probably the worst I have ever had, although we met plenty at the landing that had no trouble finding them in numbers and size. We saw lots on sonar but was difficult to get them to bite, not so with the bass. We must have caught at least twenty in almost as many minutes, definitely on the beds right up on shore....almost impossible to catch anything under 18", definitely more fun than chasing walleye with lockjaw!

Hi all, Finally got round to rebuilding and re-carpeting the floors and casting deck on my old tinny, had to rebuild the trolling motor mount too. Also banged in around a thousand rivets and re-varnished the bench seats while i was at it. Took 2 weeks of farting around and 200 trips to Canadian Tire, but finally got her done and hit a smallish lake 5 minutes from town for some walleye fun on Saturday morning. Worked out perfectly for the fish fry that afternoon at our place, and the boat hardly leaks at all now!

That is an interesting method. I used a 11 foot light spin rod for casting big slip bobbers when ocean fishing for mackerel. Like you said, good for getting and con trolling long casts. Yeah, it was extra good cause the guy with me is my fishing buddy of old and gads moved back to the area after 3 years away. LOL…yeah, the videos are getting longer and longer. Its just starting to grow up, a bit like me…lol. The crappie up here are really prominent species now, lots of lakes with big populations, can't wait till they migrate to my shore.

Thanks for all the replies gals and guys! I am lucky to have buddies with boats who are willing to take me out, my boat has been a labor of love this year, still not ready to go, maybe tonight just round the bay, nothing wrong with it, just maintenance. I see you hit the jackpot with the Dore the other day too! Thanks Pump, liking your youtube videos BTW. Thanks, yup life is pretty good up here, still stress as everywhere else but I'd rather stress here than in TO! Thanks Newhips, anytime you do come up and need info or whatever, be sure to message me:) YUP, for sure, and having it all on video means I got these memories even when I go senile, if only I can remember where my house is when that happens….lololol. Sure is Joey, after the spring though they are nearly impossible to find!

Hi all, I still haven't got my boat in the water yet, waiting for some boat carpet to arrive. But I have a good buddy with a new boat who has taken me out a couple of times. We headed out on my home lake to get some crappie and were not disappointed. All up shallow, hitting live and plastic baits. Got into some hammer handle pike too which were infesting the crappie areas and even trying to take crappie we were reeling in. We tried for bass too, Vibrax spinner in fire tiger was very effective.
