  1. Hi all, Had planned to go for a long day fising at Burr Lake with some buddies. As things turned out my buddy had a medical emergency in the family and could not come. I ended up going and got into a ton of perch but had to wait til the last bite of the day for a walleye. Was nice that the perch were being aggressiv today....made for a lot of running between my two lines, keeping me occupied as i waited for the walleye to show up. I was going to move but never did as time was limited. Anyway, got a couple of nice fillets of walleye in the end, wasn't cold, and was kept busy. (i would have kept some perch as they were big enough, but i was noticing a lot of worms in the flesh around the gills and mouth. All fish in 17 - 19 FOW on jig and plain hook with split shot sinker. TONS OF THESE GUYS ONLY WALLEYE FOR TODAY <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/MVI_2540.flv"> Best wishes for the new year to you all.
  2. Top stuff Jacques! Things look to be heating up for ya so to speak....thats some nice fish you guys got into. I'm cosidering going for some smallies myself tomorrow.......will be trying out your bass tips if i do. Your hat reminds me of holidaying at our house in France....much time spent in the local Chasse Peche buying my asticot and trying to get what i needed in my very broken Franglais! Great report dude.....look forward to more!
  3. Great report! wow...100 perch! busy day!
  4. Great stuff Pike Slayer, did not seem too bad a days fishing to me Nice haul of fish. Do you you fry or can or what?
  5. Nice one sean! Holly crappolla....your almost close enough to invite round for coffee! Those pictures are excellent for a phone...."oooooh .....i remember the days when phones had circular dials on them" Nice haul of fish, had to lauagh at the bit where ya lost a couple cuz it was shallow....had that happen before. Great to see ya got out, glad you made it back to your real home Best wishes for the new year. Simon
  6. Awesome Spiel. Congrats.
  7. Hey jeff. I know you are an avid hardwater fisherperson......just wondering though why 'nothing' beats a flasher? I, as you know, use the X67C, and it is awesome in my opinion. It has an LCD flasher that works exactly like any other flasher, so why are flashers so much better? I much prefer to use my machine in graph mode. I'm not trying to be contentious...i'm just curious is all.
  8. Fantastic stuff right there. Great info too....the comparison shots are great. oh yeah.....YUM!
  9. Great report, great pike....superb bass!!! wow, the perch in our area would rarely hit a jig that large in my experience. Good job guys, looks like a good day out.
  10. Great stuff terry. I dont think you chickened out.....i've been there before and should've gone home.....i call that sensible....lol. BTW....like your fishfinder...i gots one of them thar units myself....pretty darn good piece of kit IMO. Thanks for sharing.... Simon. PS...i'm gonna have to try eating perch this year.
  11. Awesome Raf....you had a good year. Those Lakers have me even more fired up for Jan 1st! What are those little black fish in your hand in the picture under the heading "summer'? I have been seeing a lot of these 'year in summary/season end posts'....good idea...enjoy reading them. Your post however is the first i've seen that goes from Ice...to....ice, i am gonna do one soon....but was waiting cuz my fishing year doesn't have an 'end'....it just keeps going, probably have 2 or 3 small outings left before my 'year end'. you let that Benbeattie in your boat? just kidding. Thanks for posting.
  12. Hardcore .....nice job all, %)KMH winds aint fun...but you stuck it out and got fish too, wow...those little reels must hold a lot of line considering the fish were at 300ft! mmmmmmm McD's........i'm hungry now.
  13. Happy birthday bro fishermen are sooooooo easy to buy gifts for.....lol
  14. congrats Rob.....fantastic present!
  15. agreed!
  16. You know what....i'm gonna try that now!....ive heard of it before....but never tried as its always too cold here...the water in and around the hole freezes in miliseconds....but with the heated shack!...thanks for that sinker...as many know....I LOVE SLIP BOBBERS! Do i get a section 8 for that?
  17. in reply to Leechman and irishfield, guys...the ice was around 10" thick....some snow....but really black ice all the way through.
  18. Hi Y'all, Well I teamed up with my buddy Glen(well apparently he's not my buddy cuz according to him I have no friends...lol) and his good friend Mark for a trip to Kenora for some Whitefish. I did the trip last year with them and was dying to get back there....whitefish are just awesome...bite light, but when you set the hook...AWESOME, they are no slouches! After a quick stop so I could swap a heater at the store for a Big Buddy heater and Glen and Mark could get their Timmies we headed off to the lake. Mark had decided to drive out, he's nuts! But there was plenty of good ice. It was pretty warm out by comparison to the last 3 weeks or so...first time it’s been above -20 Celsius really. We got to the same spot we fished last year, and we were all set up in no time at all, despite the 'warm' weather I set up the 'Taj Wabigoon' as Glen describes my fish hut, just so it was there if needed. MARK DROVE THE TRUCK OUT SET UP THE ‘TAJ WABIGOON’ Things were pretty quiet at first, fish wise, lots of perch showing on the bottom but nothing much bigger. I started fishing the bottom, bouncing a small gold/brass shiny Northland jig with a Power bait micro tube. I got a really small perch, that was it. The guys and me were using combinations of jigs, Swedish pimple type jigs/small flash spoons, rattlin' jigs with minnows (dead...as no live bait allowed), micro tubes, waxies, I even tried powerbait 'Fishfry' on a jig. It wasn't until I lifted the jig 10 feet off the bottom before I saw the first Whitie come almost vertically up from the bottom , felt the light tap...set the hook, and pulled up an average size one. This was followed not long afterwards by another. MY FIRST COUPLE OF WHITIES THIS YEAR Next Glen got in on the act....Landing the 2 biggest whities of the day.........we were still waiting for Mark to join in GLEN GOT THE 2 BIGGEST OF THE DAY(the spoon is 19”) I got a couple more before it went quiet for a bit. I decided to use the lull to set up and try out my new heater.....WOW...is it ever nice......it was toasty in the hut in no time at all....but it was still pretty warm out, and it felt plain unsocial to sit in there. Glen got one more, then I got a couple more, then the wind picked up, and the snow started to come down, Mark was already in and out of the truck with the engine running, and Glen disappeared into the 'Taj Wabigoon' to eat his lunch in the warmth. By the time Glen re-emerged, my hands were frozen...I decided to go in just to warm up. What a difference sitting out of the cold wind, on a comfy bench seat with a heater on....and I started to catch fish too......I think it helped that I could take my gloves off and have a finger on the line to feel the really light bites. It still amazes me the lightness of the bite from such a relatively large fish.....but its kinda what I like most about fishing for whitefish...just such a contrast from the really light bite to the heavy THUD when you strike and set the hook. I WAS GETTING QUITE A FEW SITTING IN THE HUT <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/nf.flv"> <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/ng.flv"> I was definitely getting the most bites, and I think all agreed it was because I was cheating...lol,....because I was the only one with a fish finder...definitely helps!! I am really getting the hang of the fish finder now I think. I did not have it last year when we were there...and I was eagerly awaiting to try it out now that I’d had it a while and was getting better at using it. It certainly is a lot of fun...like fishing Xbox...lol. FISHING XBOX (the line on the graph at 35’ is my jig) THE FISH LINES ON THE GRAPH IN THE ABOVE VIDEO WERE SMALL STUFF…..LIKE THIS GUY. It was just waaaaaaay to comfy in the hut . I had not come out of the hut for around 15-20, although the door was slightly open and I could hear the banter between Mark and Glen. By this time I had iced three more fish. One of them was slapping about on the ice, and because of the heater, there was a lot of water on the surface inside the hut. The fish was making a slap, slap, squelch noise......next thing all I hear is Glen shouting over from outside and laughing....." what the hell you doing in there...sounds like your sp@#kin' the monkey!” Damn that was funny...I was PMSL for about 5 minutes straight...as were Glen and Mark. TOO FUNNY <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/nh.flv"> After another quiet period in which Glen got one or two more Whitefish and I got 2 or 3 more Tulibee , from what I could tell from the noises outside, Glen had hooked into a nice fish....Mark and I ran over to check it out.. OOOOPS! <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/nk.flv"> By now it was around 2:30, and though we always say we'll clean the fish as we go, we left it late again, Mark and Glen got stuck in....I stayed quiet and let them get on with most of it but guilt got the better of me and I made a token effort. I got one more before we called it a day. HARD WORK WHEN THEY”RE FROZEN GLEN GOT ANOTHER ONE I GOT ONE TOO <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/nl.flv"> We packed up and headed off. On the way back we stopped to chat to the guys who we had met at the landing, they also had a few, so we chatted a bit and then took off again. MET SOME OTHER FISHER FOLK WHO WE ALL KNEW FROM ANOTHER FORUM I was falling some distance behind the truck....did not wanna get too close....lol...when it happened....the fricken snowmachine started to rattle, and just stopped. I thought it was the belt, so got off to have a look. Mark got all the way to the landing before he realised I was not following, and by the time they got back I had kinda come to the conclusion that it was not the belt...Mark and Glen both thought it was a broken chain....well lucky the ice was safe enough for the truck, cuz mark was able to tow the sled back. What really sucks is that I have already had some bad news regarding my new sled as described in my post the other day, the worst thing is this was my uncles sled...boy do I feel bad. THIS SUCKS <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/nn-1.flv"> Anyway, Glen had kindly arranged for us to have a fish fry at his house with his family, we got to share his sons birthday cake celebration too which was neat, and we had a few more laughs around the dinner table.....whitefish done in beer batter is AWESOME!!!! GREAT DAY OUT, CAUGHT FISH, ATE FISH, LAUGHED LOTS...don’t get much better than that Tight lines all Simon
  19. This is really tough, so many different reasons why different posts and posters would qualify if ya know what i mean . I totally agree, Moosebunk's post are legendary, Solopaddler should be banned from fishing for steelhead so there are some left for the rest of us , Leechman is definitely best newcomer...was noticing his post count...considering only a few months you certainly got stuck into the forum Jaques.....yer posts are darn good too CCMT.......nuff said. JOEY....excellent captain of the 'MAN HO'S' RICH has got to be in there ....loved the winter carping posts especially Clampit for his...er...sense of humour?.....lol Johnnyb for proposing whilst fishing....then forgetting to take his fishing rods on honeymoon The list goes on and on. I am flattered to get a mention, however, there are so many people who contribute way more than me and i sincerely feel everyone who posts on here should get credit for making this site what it is. AND THAT AINT LIP SERVICE!!!!!!!!! Merry Xmas all LIMEY.
  20. HERE'S MINE Ok, i got it stuck...but should not have backed into the water so much...especially with 'all season' tires. Mind you it got back up a steep 1km mud track with my 16' boat and trailer. I bought the 2007 Canyon SLE (Off - Road) 4 X 4 crew cab.....i love it. Does 31 miles Highway...pretty good, sucks on gas in town though. Inside is a bit plastic, not very plush finish. Everyone who has been in it does not have a bad word to say either really.. I cant really say much more than that as i have never driven the Dodge. But the straight 5 cylinder has tons of power, ive had a snowmachine in the box, and one on a trailer at the same time....got down many logging roads like that last winter no problems....was like there was nothing there. Its a bit slidy as its so light, wish i had got the hard tonneau cover to add weight to the back, but now with studded winter tires it handles like a dream on the snow and ice when in 4 wheel drive. Tires are not a standard size apparently. They are 15", which means when i went to put on the winter tires, it was difficult to get hold of 15"rims....other than going to GMC $$$$$$$$$, so just put the winter tires on the existing factory fitted rims. The passenger seats are a bit hard, but lots of room in the back. Took my mum and dad from Toronto , through Michigan and upto Dryden NW Ontario...a 1800km trip, they're old and rickety but had no complaints . Iv'e put her through some stuff( as the pic shows) and no problems so far. I aint gonna say what i paid....lol...makes me wince even now....especially since they are probably giving them away now....if only i waited 18 months!!!!! Got 0% finance, 5 year or 150,000, 3 years of that is bumper to bumper warranty....just hope they dont go under and i lose the warranty. Hope this helps...... Here's a few more pics of my baby in action <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
  21. Hey Guys, we're getting there!!! So far we've got Brkygetr, BenBeattie and Rickster from OFC. I've also been enlisting from an Ice Fishing forum i visit and there are another 5 guys who say definitely coming as far as possible, and 2 more maybes. So as it stands we have a possible 11 signed up including lil' ole me. I know some of my buddies want to come who are not members of either forums, so thats another 3 or 4. Guess we should start thinking about venues etc pretty soon.
  22. Great report(again) Iceslayer. Nice size crappie. I'd go night fishing too.....cept ts like -35 or -40 at night here....Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Thanks for sharing. simon
  23. Thanks for all the replies guys, i've been trying to smile through this little episode today, and i really appreciate all the comments. Its helped me to put in perspective.....i think the fact as so many of you point out is that the guy probably didn't even know. The guys at the shop said the machine was by no means "beat up"....nor did it look abused....they said it simply was not maintained. I'm gonna suck up the cost, and if the guy i bought it from goes half or even a third of repairs with me...i'll have a good sled, in good condition, that if i sold next year i could make a profit on...as i got it at a good price. Not that i'm gonna sell it. Anyway...just one of lifes little trials...had 'em before (way worse) will have 'em again...just gratefull this forum was here to vent a bit when igot the call from the garage Cheers all, Just finished packing up my gear for whitefish tomorrow, borrowing my uncles sled....hopefully my buddy Glen doesn't cancel on me...... Will post a report tomorrow evening ONCE AGAIN ...THANKS ALL
  24. Hi Y'all. well...what can i say...wish i was a mechanic. Picked up a second hand sled 2 weeks ago from a guy i know and have fished with, looked in good condition, drove it home even. Guy told me it was mechanically sound.....thats untill i just received the call from the shop where i was getting it serviced. So far....(and i dont even know what this all means other than MUCHO $$$$$$$$ approximately $1000 in parts alone is the quote so far) 1. Both suspension shot to pieces 2. Rear torque bolts broken, shaft damaged. 3. New chain needed 4. Reverse gear completely chewed up, probably whole thing needs replacing The guy at the shop stopped there and told me to come in...glad he did, i almost passed out....NOT HAVING A GOOD DAY! OH well....cant cry...gotta try and smile, at least my uncle is lending me his sled for tomorrows trip to Shoal Lake, its gonna be hard not to think about this out there though...lol....damn i hate being ripped off!!!!! to think i helped this guy pre-fish a tournament in the fall...he must've known it wa a piece of crap all the talk, of stored inside, wife and kids ride LOL...sorry...beginning to rant...i'll end it there.
  25. Great stuff Bassain.....pike are always fun through the ice ...heck...they're always fun period! Thats a real buzz when you discover a species you never even knew was in there...nice one. And yeah...looks cold.....been cold here too...but warming up soon. Thanks for posting.
