I was exausted and exhilerated just reading about your trekking off the tracks in the first 2 days, what an adventure! glad you got a trout after all that effort! Absolutely brilliant write up, but the pictures are fantastic too....lol...am i raving?... I especially like the Snowflake pic on day 1, the sleeping in the tree Day 3, and the perch through the shelter window thanks for sharing.

  7. Hi Y'all, Well, guess I’m an addict....lol...went back for trout again. my buddy matt called me at work last night and asked the dumbest question...."do you wanna go fishing tomorrow?"....lol...duh! are there bubbles when a duck f@rts? My wife was at work so no worries there, got the snowblowing and chores done that afternoon...so tomorrow was good to go! Well tomorrow turned to today and we eventually set off to Thunder lake again, arriving at around 10am. We set up the shack, Matt was loving the new shack and heater.....as the last time we went to thunder Lake together nearly a year ago to the day, it was -25 Celsius like today...but last year there was a strong 20kmh wind...I got frost nip on my fingers that day...WE FROZE, not today...nice and warm. ME LAST YEAR AFTER OUR DAY ON THUNDER LAKE....DARN IT WAS COLD THAT DAY.....AAHHHH THE MEMORIES We found the spot I was at the other day despite the snow dump of the past few days(next years toy is a GPS) and were greeted by a sonar screen showing a 10 foot deep band of smelt.....PERFECT! LOTS OF BAITFISH UNDER US We did not get any bites for almost an hour. We had two lines each, jigging inside the hut with static lines outside within view from inside....did I mention it was freezing cold out there today?...lol I was getting a little impatient...guess I’ve been spoiled the last couple of days, and started to get a little bored so tried for some whities...with one hit, but in hindsight probably a ling. After an hour Matt got into a little one, and I followed quickly after that with a nice keeper, we were both using jigs with 6" sucker minnows. Matt also got a hit on his other line but it got off at the hole. MATT GOT THE FIRST ONE I FOLLOWED WITH A GOOD SIZE ONE FOR THUNDER LAKE THIS ONE GOT OFF AT THE HOLE AFTER MATT DID THE HUNDRED YARD DASH TO HIS ROD <a href="http://s263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/?action=view¤t=IMG_2605.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/IMG_2605.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> After the one that got away for Matt, I went on a missed bite/one that got away spree like never before....I just had to laugh...it was ridiculous, Matt also lost a couple in the next half hour, but up to 1 pm we did land a couple more...all pretty small and we set them loose to fatten up. DONT THINK I"VE EVER HAD SO MANY FISH GET OFF IN A ROW! <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/missedfishmovie.flv"> It went pretty quiet for about an hour and then picked right up again. We were seeing lots of trout, chasing our baits up and down the water column on the graph, we were trying to rob the fish off each other on the screen which was a real hoot. We'd see a fish chasing the others bait, then lower your own bait to the fish and try and distract it from the others line...lol...got pretty competitive...great fun. We also got into a few Ling too, not really big enough to keep so they went back, they were hugging the bottom but were not shy once you got their interest and would come up to 20 foot off bottom to nail the bait. GOT SOME LING <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/lingmovie.flv"> WE GOT LOTS OF TROUT, MOSTLY LITTLE, BUT WE KEPT 3 NICE ONES....IVE HAD TROUT FOR SUPPER TWICE IN 3 OR $ DAYS...I"M GOOD FOR A WHILE NOW...lol <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/catchingsome.flv">
  8. Nice fish , great pic, wear what ya gotta wear...lol
  9. LOVE IT! That shot of the creek/portage is stunning...the fish speak for themselves thanks for sharing.
  10. Great stuff Johnny and 'Laker Jess". Come on JB...get that walleye...the suspense is killing me! My wife also outfishes me regularly...especially when gong for walleye...she does this thing where she holds the line wit her thumb and index finger, with the rod in the rod rest...lol..."Laker jess' and my wife...."The walter Whisperer" When you gonna get yur walleyeless butt up here dude?
  11. Great set up you got there....lol...from another fan of the x67c Fat trout, ive been fishing really shallow so far this year...but love pulling them up from deep, specially when the have peeled a good deal of line out too...makes for a long hard fight. Thanks for sharing...i'm heading out in abbout 2 hours for some trout too.... Thanks for sharing.
  12. I live in Dryden, fished Eagle Lake a couple of times, its ok....but if i was going for Walleye it would not be my first choice. I have never fished for or caught a musky and know that Eagle lake has a reputation for good musky fishing, certainly Bobby's Corner (tackle store) in Vermillion bay has a nice selection of musky baits. If i only had a week to fish, and given the scant knowledge i have considering i live here....lol....i would be heading to Lac Seul if it was Walleye and Musky i was after. I suggest maybe contacting OFC member Benbeattie...he has guided Lac Seul, and has caught some nice Musky, and even i can catch big walleye on that body of water. I'm sure The Lodge at Vermillion Bay would be great, and i'm not trying to send you elsewhere or say anything bad about a lodge or Lake i'm really not familiar with, just throwing what i know into the ring so to speak. Hope this helps. Simon
  13. It was good wasn't it...really enjoyed that, and great to meet someone from here... finally! The NW Ontario contingent seem a bit thin on the ground. I'm up for the brookies any time i'm free, and as you should know, i'll come out fishing with no notice if i'm not working, just give me time to make some sandwiches, buy some red bull and I'M THERE! The language thing...lol....just so everyone knows....i swear just as much if not more than Brkygetr!
  14. Hey Leechman, with sport license it is 2 per person per day.
  15. I use a small cooler, dont do the aerator....its to cold...tried one a couple years back and it froze solid, ice up the tube etc. works well for me, just wrap bungee cords around it and thrpough the handles, keeps the lid down tight.
  16. Hi Y'all, I was kinda planning Friday evening to get out early Saturday for some Lake Trout, would have to be early as i needed to get some sleep in the afternoon as i was on night shift saturday night. A local buddy of mine had wanted to go for Walleye in the day, but i was not to keen on that idea as the walleye bite aint particularly great at noon in my experience....and the bite has been tough even at sun-up and sunset recently. I was sat browsing the board when i read a reply to one of my posts from Brkygetr.....basically an invite to go to a lake about an hor away for both of us on saturday morning,,,done deal!!! Headed out about 5:45 am, found Brkygetr where he said he'd be, did some brief intro stuff...lol...we were both pretty eager to get on the ice, and took the short walk to the lake. Turns out Brkygetr is a top bloke...thats limey for a great guy....and it was not long before we got into some lakers. We both got around 4 fish, but only kept 4 as we were trying to see if we could hook a really big guy. We did end up keeping one of the smaller ones as it was bleeding from the gills and would not have survived. Action went exactly according to Dale's prediction...ie bite from 8:30am -10am....then again around midday. Dale was using white tube jigs tipped with a big dace minnow, i was using a homemade dropper rig and the other rod was a 1/2oz white ball jig(long shank hook...great for sucker minnows) with dace minnows and sucker minnows i brought with me. The lake was pretty slushy, well ...very slushy, and we stayed at the first main point as the lake opens out. We were no more than 30 feet away from shore but still in 25 - 49 FOW. All the trout (and Pike) hitting half way up the water column around the 25 -15 fow range. We did try brieflty for whitefish, had something take a look on sonar , but no takers. On the subject of sonars, the interference between Dale's flasher and my Lowrance was terrible, we did not use them much at all in the end. The first trout nearly dragged the rod down the hole, only Dale's keen eye and my rod rest lock saved it. Then it was pretty consistent for both of us until we left around 1pm. Like i said, Brrkygetr(Dale) is a top bloke, down to earth and addicted to fishing.....my kind of people...lol, we shared some stories/jokes/banter etc...caught lots of trout, if not the big guys we were looking for, but not a bad size in my opinion. Great day, great company. I tried playing around with the Windows Moviemaker as it compresses the clips automatically allowing faster uploads....so dont judge to harshly on vid quality...lol...i aint Steven Speilberg VIDEO RECAP OF THE DAY <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/Movie.flv">
  17. EXCELLENT REPORT!!!! Those are some really nice whities, trout and walleye too....great day on the ice....and all the fun of vehicular meltdowns(i know all about those....lol) Great stuff Irish, really nice pics and write up, thanks for that, Limey
  18. I'll be lookin'ut for that red chevy at the side of the road at 7:15am...see ya then!
  19. I have tried these....THE WHITEFISH LOVED 'EM! I might be going to a lake that holds perch tomorrow...will try 'em out and report back if i do.
  20. Thats an epic adventure! i cant wait to get my snowmachine back and get out into the wilds! I've had a few trips like yours too....not as far into the boonies....but being dissappointed with the fish count, when everything seemed set for a slaughter. Guess you'll just have to hammer 'em next time.....look forward to your next report....lakers are my fav!
  21. I think it varies from lake to lake, for example i heard that on one lake i have fished the whitefish will follow the smelt when they spawn and feed off the eggs, and sure enough.....when the smelt started to spawn in late april the whitefish in one spot we fished successfully all march and April dissappeared. the only thing that stopped us chasing the whitefish chasing the smelt was that they smelt apparently head for the mouths of the creeks in that lake....no way we were going anywhere near creek ice in late April.
  22. LOL...i never tried Ghost Lake...heard its ok.
  23. I know, some days it really gets depressing, having to spend all that time deciding which lake, when all i want to do is get out there and fish!!!!!
  24. Excellent video! Love the little caption boxes....specially the last one....lol. Great stuff....that pike eally did nearly spool ya! thanks for sharing.
