Yup, I have not used my Mavic Pro since they decided to practically crimiNalize drones over 250g. I intend to jump through all the hoops to fly legally, but what a load of Bull for someone living in the wilderness, I agree with the restrictions around airports etc, but holy man, way to kill the fun out of using your drone!

Cherry could challenge in court, just not through the avenues you mentioned. Omar Khadr won his case because the Supreme Court seemed the Government to be in breach of laws that protect the freedoms of every Canadian, the very freedoms that people continue to sacrifice their lives for.
-
It’s not even a long stretch, it’s not even applicable as the legislation pertains to protection from actions of a government. And what actions of government did Omar challenge in the Supreme Court? In summarizing the wrongs committed against Khadr, the Supreme Court said “the interrogation of a youth detained without access to counsel, to elicit statements about serious criminal charges while knowing that the youth had been subjected to sleep deprivation... offends the most basic Canadian standards about the treatment of detained youth suspects.”

"The silent majority is always going to be a state of mind," he said. "It's a feeling. It's a feeling of dispossession. And that feeling of dispossession can come about most dramatically in times when things seem to be changing, when all that's solid melts into air."

WOW, talk about the 'white' elephant in the room. Two white guys on the opposite side of the spectrum. And as for nobody getting their nose outta whack? Black people's noses back then were just "outa wack" in response to racism as it is to this day.

Sorry Sterling.

Really? Yeah and maybe Elvis is still alive and driving Taxi in Quebec.

How did he recognise those people in Mississauga and Toronto as “you people that come here” then? Were they wearing a badge with ‘New Canadian” on it where the poppy should have been? Of course not, he recognised them by the colour of their skin. It’s interesting how people are racist these days. If I don’t say Black but use other ways of saying it I then have plausible deniability. I can say it’s not about race, or race is not an issue and claim the universality of human experience and then turn things upside down and say because the accuser of racism talked about skin colour they are in fact the racist. What is the purpose of this? To shut down the conversation and neutralise any argument that racism exists and maintain the status quo, a status quo in which there is a huge power imbalance that benefits one group and denies others purely on the basis of skin color. I remember as a kid I was stopped by the police and asked for my immigration documents! I had a broad English accent then as now, why did the cop assume I was not from England? This still happens today, coded language is key. I get asked all the time, where are you from? You tell the person and the reply is, “ no, I mean where are you really/ originally from?” These are just examples of frequent reoccurring microaggressions experienced by people of color, we are well aware of the ways in which racism manifests without saying black, brown etc.. etc. Being reminded daily of one’s ‘otherness’ is the commonly shared experience of people of colour, of course if you don’t experience this it might be hard to see or believe it is the reality for some, to be told that my actual experience and my actual identity don’t exist and I only believe it because I’m a “ snowflake” is just insult to injury.

I think a good analogy for the 3 dots you mention is the 'blue pill' from the film The Matrix, "The red pill, together with its opposite, the blue pill, is a popular cultural meme, a metaphor representing a choice between the "red pill", representing a life of harsh knowledge, desperate freedom, and the brutal truths of reality, and the "blue pill", representing a life of luxurious security, tranquil happiness, and the blissful ignorance of the harsh realities of life, basking in an (essentially dishonest) illusion."

I feel the goal posts moving with your comments. There are going to be people offended/not offended. Safe to say as a brown person i'm offended, safe to say the grand wizard of the KKK not so much. I don't know your guy's histories so you have your reasons for your point of view is all I can say. But the fact of the matter is what Don said was racist, i.e. making assumptions about people based on the colour of their skin. It would be fair to say that racism being used to make a point about people sacrificing their lives for freedom is so ironic it beggars belief.
-
Don Cherry said...“You people, that come here”. So he is addressing people that have come from somewhere else. He says that he sees those people walking around Mississauga and Toronto. How does Don know who is an immigrant or not? It’s not like “New Canadians” wear a badge with that on it, he is talking about visible minorities. So Don is making assumptions about people based on the color of their skin, can’t think of a better description of ‘racist’ if I tried.

Fishing gadgets you wish existed? INPUT NEEDED!
limeyangler replied to Sterling's topic in General Discussion
A small underwater camera that connects directly to your phone. All these aqua view things cost a fortune and are big and clunky. I know the big guys in the business could easily do it but then they would not sell as many of their over priced over size gadgets. -
I don't have an issue with the goods being from China, I have an issue withe goods 'coming' from China, the shipping can take MONTHS!

Another avid hardwater angler here. Not long now. Boat is put away last week but I still got out yesterday from shore. Makes me laugh, people in town always asking if I'm sad fishing season is over, there is no such thing as fishing season being over except for the 2 weeks it takes from first ice to safe ice.

Hi all, Boat is put away 😭. Snowmachines ready to GO! 😃. No +℃ forecast for daytime now so the wait begins. This year was one of my best years of fishing. I did not necessarily catch more or bigger fish, its just because I spent more time on my home lake and learnt lots, i'd say I average 3-4 days a week out there. I caught more walleye on my home Lake Wabigoon than ever before and have a pretty good idea of the fishes seasonal hang outs and patterns which I can now build on. I also fished it later and more regularly than I ever did in the last 12 years. I spent a few hours every time I went out on the reefs and found some crappy spots for September/October that will need further investigation and tweaking, and narrowed down a few reefs that produce decent walleye right through those months too. I have to say though that I was mostly casting for pike and musky for the last 6 weeks of the season. Being new to this I'm pretty pleased with the results, I did not catch that many big fish, but I certainly am more confident as to where they hang out and a few baits that get their interest, interestingly smaller baits than the collective literature and wisdom suggests to use were the most productive. All in all I would have to say on this lake at this time shallow was best for me and if you can find weed thats still green BINGO! I did catch a few nice Pike jigging for walleye on the reefs and also had some success with pike casting spoons across reefs that have a nice shallow plateau, only a few follows from musky doing this, but one was HUGE! This fall was the wettest on record, since records began and this spring was the 4th coldest on record so fishing was kind of screwy out there, not even sure the crappy spawned this year as they were not in there usual spring beds, but stayed in the weed and rock piles in 10' to 14' FOW until the water warmed to 63℉ which did not happen until 2nd week of July. The water temps barely hit 70℉ all summer and only registered at that level for 2 weeks max before temps started to drop again, the torrential rains keeping it cool too. Did not hurt fishing other than we seemed a couple of weeks behind 'normal' all year and you had to try different stuff and locations. As usual with the arrival of fall I start to shoot grouse too, and with the wet weather we had a really good late Chanterelle mushroom harvest. The Grouse hunting was tough compared to usual, might have something to do with the cold, wet conditions, and when you did find birds they were jittery as heck and would be airborne into the thick brush before you could set your sight on 'em. We did get some though and my son Jack is loving hunting and foraging more than he ever did fishing, so we got to spend some quality time out in the bush together. Looking forward to ice season now, which won't be more than 4 weeks away at this rate, we already have 4" of snow on the ground and I think it's here to stay. Here are some pics from the last 6 weeks of shenanigans................... BRING ON THE ICE!!!!!!!!! TIGHT LINES!

Cant imagine, don't want to even , the pain this poor mother feels right now. I have read all the comments on here and it seems that a lot of the opinions about what the solutions are to bullying are something I take issue with but am silenced by the sites 'no politics' policy. What I will say is that some seem to think bullying is worse today than it was in the golden years of yesteryear, from a person of colour who was beaten regularly for that reason alone at school, and knowing many other people who suffered the same, the Golden years of yesteryear don't exist for a lot of people who lived through that mythical period.

Yes I was, no different than big pike really, I have protective gloves, all my tools close at hand. I use my walleye net with no problems. I have a GoPro mount glued to the top of my trolling motor and the camera is voice activated, so takes seconds to setup for a snap. Only one treble on the small spoon which was actually on the outside of its mouth, lucky to land it really, but made for an easy release.

Thanks for the tip, I have them in the boat, I love repps spinners and upgraded to some bigger ones. I caught zilch on the inlines, tried buzzing them over the weeds, same deal with spinner baits, will be revisiting that next year though for sure, and if I get out again before the freeze will for sure try again and let you know how it worked out. I was catching a ton of smaller pike the other day in a bay I did well trolling spinner baits in spring and summer, i would get one ever pass on a big spoon or 8" squirrely jointed believer, tried a spinner bait and did not get hit, switched back and instant bite, weird.

Thanks Brian, just dipping a toe in the water so to speak, actually, I might think twice about dipping my toes in Wabigoon now....lol....lol.

I have the video of the catch and release on the way. I caught some pike that day too, just have to sort through the footage. I had three hours to kill before work, so I decided to go and explore the South shore of Wabigoon as I never venture there, very hazardous with rocks. Found some beauty spots to cast for big pike and Musky, can't wait till spring. I got tired of casting in the rain and wind after 2 hours and decided to go and catch a few crappie and walleye in my regular spots closer to home, spent 45 minutes without a bite! Decided to cast for a pike in a spot 100yrds from my crappie spot, tied on a 3" spoon and cast at the corner of some reeds that still had a smattering of green cabbage in front of it. First cast felt a light tap/knock, cast again same spot and felt the same light tap as I pulled it past the cabbage, decided to set the hook on what I though for sure was a hammer handle pike, how wrong could i be! Have not fished for walleye much at all since the last lady I guided back in September. While trying to up my game casting for pike I am developing a new addiction, many warned me but i'm proud and thought I was above that....lol. I am still casting stuff that i know pike will take too so I get a bit more action, but the Musky don't seem to mind the slightly smaller stuff I have been throwing, in particular spoons and the pike don't seem to mind the big musky stuff when they are in the mood. I feel like i'm fishing a new lake again, trying new stuff and venturing to parts I have been driving by on the way to fish for walleye. I used to have a big hate on for Wabigoon, but since I started guiding 2 years ago I had to spend more time on it, and given that I live on the lake it's easy to do, the results of my efforts have made me do a complete 180º, LOVE THIS LAKE! Thanks! Looking forward to next year targeting them in the weeds. Thanks Capitano! Its already snowing here, watching the temps carefully this time of year, try to keep the boat out as long as possible but need a warm day to winterize the outboard when the garden hose pipe is not frozen, 2 weeks tops given the longterm forecast before its below zero here day and night. lol, it literally tapped the spoon like a small pike! The red fins are amazing eh? Hopefully not long before I get a 50". I saw one last year that attacked a small walleye I was reeling in, must have been approaching 60"!!!! They are in this lake FOR SURE! Thanks HH! I am leaning that way too, I have spent HOURS this fall firing giant suiks, Jakes, bulldawgs etc...etc and NOTHING! I have caught all my musky on spoons no larger than 5", jakes no larger than 6" and Shimano Waxwing Jrs. I have to say it is a confidence thing, I know once I get one throwing the larger stuff I will be more inclined to use it, but its catch 22, because I probably don't allow myself enough time and switch over to smaller stuff after only an hour with no bites.

hi all, been spending some time exploring my home lake , casting as I go, got into a nice musky in 2’FOW on the edge of some reeds. Water temp is 51F and rain, rain, RAIN! This is the 2nd 40”+ musky I’ve caught in the last month or so on a small spoon, a Warden’s Worry Wobbler spoon to be exact, so much for casting all those giant cranks!

I’m starting to get into it, I’m kinda just casting for pike or anything, went out today for 6 hours in the pouring rain and got 4 musklettes(small ones... lol) , like you say, it’s nice to be 30 seconds from Wabigoon and 20 minutes to Eagle Lake.
