OK....Trying to be positive, but need some advice

Beer is for hydration, Scotch is for relaxation after the serious hydration is accomplished. Can be done between morning and evening fishing periods -
OK....Trying to be positive, but need some advice
Bill Shearer replied to bigcreekdad's topic in General Discussion
I was north of Temagami last week, and when I went into North Bay on the way home, every vehicle, building, pole etc, was covered in May Flies!(hexagenia limbata, for those that care) The folks from that area call them shad flies. The fish love them, and don't seem interested in anything else. So if you see a lot of empty casings on the water, and fish slurping them off the surface, the beer and the scotch would be the solution, I'm afraid. -
I can get used to almost anything, but really did like the green one much better. Can I get it back.....please?

Importing used outboard from Michigan
Bill Shearer replied to RangerGuy's topic in General Discussion
You do if bought from a retail store, but not privately. Doesn't hold true when bought in the US though. Feds always want their pound of flesh. -
Nothing like your first fish of any species! Those Kings make you humble! Just wait for a few more weeks, then you will have to be very good to land them!

Fished two of the five days there, for a couple of hours each day. Surface temp was 65 to 68F. As mentioned water was clear, no weeds, and rocks and humps everywhere. Did see SM Bass. Tried jigging with Gulp minnows, and Strat spoons. Had a couple of hits but fish were faster than me! Lots of Mayflies hatching, and did see fish feeding on the emerges. Beautiful scenery. The flies and mosquitoes were incessant! No wonder Iike Steelhead fishing! Thanks for the help though, especially about the rocks. Needed that spare prop!

A razor blade, and a couple of minutes, plus another coat of epoxy will fix the thread issue. A little more sanding time would fix the cork handle. The best advice I received after building my first, was " take your time". It's amazing how we can almost always get it right the 2nd time. Easy for me to say now, because Spiel gets it right Everytime. I've been spoiled.

Dangerous boat operator in Rice Lake.
Bill Shearer replied to Steelcat's topic in General Discussion
With apologies to 'normal sane boaters', I compare this to the 'Toronto crazies'.. I seldom hit the lakes at this time of the year, but definately compare it to some of the folks I meet on streams in the fall. No consideration or care for the rest of the folks on the pool, or hole. It's all about wanting to fish where 'they want'. They have been thinking about catching fish for the last couple of weeks, and don't give a crap for anybody else. Compare it to the creep who cuts you off on the 401, so he can get a couple of car lengths ahead of you, when all the rest are creeping forward, and just wanting to get home. You see them all the time! -
Canadian prices for inflatable life vests
Bill Shearer replied to Tootsie II's topic in General Discussion
I bought one from the Stearns website last year, before I went to Alaska. Least expensive price I could find. Had to have one that was approved for US waters. US Coast guard approved jackets can be used in Canada, but you MUST have a Canada approved jacket in the boat, sized correctly for all passengers. You are correct that they are quite a bit cheaper in the US, than in Canada. I guess we float differently in Canadian waters? -
Many thanks for the info. I now have an idea what to search for, and also what watch for! Bill

Heading up for the long weekend. Curious as to what is there, and successful methods anyone has had. Bill

If Walleye numbers are in trouble on lake Erie, it won't be from the guys taking their limit of 6. The guys that take the 4'X4'X4' plastic totes full of them for sale can take the heat for that, measured in tonnes, not pounds.

Many bad days on Lake O for salmon during east winds convinced me to just stay home when they were from that direction. I've had mediocre days fishing the streams for trout during east winds, but still go as it's far better than staying home. It really is all about the weather pattern changes that affect the fish the most, IMO. Give me three days of SW winds, and a good day will be had for sure on the 4th day.

I jumped out of an airplane yesterday *Video*

TheLeetAngler Happy to oblige! Mike, I guess I just have a trustworthy looking tube? lol Dave, I'd already had my endoscopy done, for the year, (thank goodness)

I took rods out to Alaska last fall. Used the PVC, with a test cap on one end, and a threaded connector on the other. You can drill through the threaded connector and put a zip tie through it. That will stop any possibilities of tampering. The feds can xray, so it doesn't need to be opened. My rods all made it to Alaska and back with no issues at all. BTW, I also put 2" of foam cut to the inside diameter, (4")of the pvc, both top and bottom. Worked like a dream. The airlines I flew on treated it sporting equipment, and charged $35 extra.

Great shots, all of them! The sleeping tots in the car seat on the way home from their tough day is a classic. I have to add that the shot of the pheasants is something I haven't seen in a long time! Good on 'ya dad!

Irishfield has it sooo correct! I don't care if it's a 14' tin can, or a 41' yacht, it's impossible to dock the boat without using forward or reverse thrust against present direction. It's the only brakes you have. Whoever took your money on the repair, is the one to pursue for the warranty. Good luck with your quest.

Our pets ask for so little, and give us so much! Never a day goes by that they don't make you smile, and most times its a LOL! Hard to deal with, but remember all he did for you. They touch our lives in so many ways.

The black dot was the determining factor for me. Chris is, As usual correct.

You can expect clear water conditions, 45-50f water temps, and a very treacherous trail on the way down, due to all the washouts from the constant rains of the last three weeks.

I've used this one for five years. replaced the batteries last year. Accurate to a degree or two, and cheap. Fits in the inside pocket of my vest. Doubles as a meat thermometer for the BBQ as well! http://www.homehardware.ca/en/rec/index.htm/Indoor-Living/Housewares/Kitchen-Gadgets/Food-Thermometers/Cooking-Refrigerator/THERMOMETER-MEAT-DIGITAL-POCKET/_/N-2pqfZ67l/Ne-67n/Ntk-All_EN/R-I4170685?Ntt=digital+thermometer

This should be a pretty easy fix for that http://www.emhart.com/brands/heli-coil

Haven't done it personally but a client who did said he was very happy with the results. I really think if you can't get employees pricing or friends of employees pricing, then it is worth the fee. You have to know exactly what you want though

NF - any garage builders in the house?
Bill Shearer replied to The Urban Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Good wisdom, and experience in this post! Leave the steel for the farm implement shed, IMO
