By saying the launch is open...does this mean the dock has been put back in the water too? My 4 year old told me at bedtime that she wishes we could go fishing again...just like in the summer...with her pouty lip....LOL. I figure with the warm weather, I'll take her up there to do some perchin!

My poor tree in the front yard is starting to bud already!!!!

The is one BIIIIIG Fish!!! That mouth is big enough for me, a recliner and a projection TV to fit in....WOW!

I'm new at this trib fishing thing, but I'm slowly getting hooked!!! With the cooler weather, shore fishing can get down right CCCCOLD, but the tribs offer some nice shelter from the wind! I've invested 3 trips and about 13 hours to local tribs...haven't caught anything yet, but I'll be out there after the rains in the next few days.

I get skunked a LOT most nights I go out. The addiction factor keeps me going out there...cause you know your next PB may only be a cast away!!!
-
With this crazy January weather...someone has to go pull them beasts out of the water!!! Go for it!!! I'll be heading out in the next few days too...still got that walleye fever going....even though I haven't caught a big one in a few weeks now... Good luck!

LOL Gerritt! I didn't pick the couple...our advertising agency did (BTW....they were recently fired and we have a new one). The scary thing is that even though they annoyed lots of ppl, the were VERY effective for us for sales. The "wear out rate" on them was at around 17%...which is average, but time for a change. Anyhow, I just picked items that I thought were innovative enough to show on TV. I'm doing a different job now, but for a few years, that was my main responsibility. Bad or good, they gave us instant recognition...which is very hard to do on TV nowadays. Home Depot tried to run ads like ours....when we interviewed them, most thought it was a Canadian Tire ad!!! Anyways...we were going to have a side story where they got divorced over all the stuff he bought at CT over the years...just to keep them going a little longer and to show that we had a sense of humour over it all. Great report! Congrats on the PB as well. It's great to read open water reports this late in the year (or early....)

Advertising manager for Canadian Tire. I'm the guy who chose the products that the annoying "fake" C. Tire couple hocked on the air!!!
-
Good luck! They do these operations all the time...I'm sure you'll come out of it just fine...and you'll be spotting fish in the water in no time!!!
-
We were there from about 630 til 1030 in the morning. I read on the board that you would be there as well, so we kept an eye out for you! Maybe next time we'll meet up there! Cliff

You didn't read the fine print did you??? "No refunds on deposits...even if we never take you out fishing".
-
Great report Kemper! You did better than we did today!! Sending PM now....

Well, I tried my hand at stealheading for the first time time week. My brother-in-law and I went out this past Saturday, Tuesday and today....blyght joined us for today's fun. We were at Oshawa Creek about a half hour before sunrise each day. No fish...a few strikes...but nothing great. Talked to other anglers and most mentioned no fish...a few said they had one. The scenery was awesome...take a look at this pic! The thing we noticed...and it made us sick, is that each day, the garbage on the riverbanks got worse and worse. Today we brought a garbage bag and decided to clean up one spot in particular that we visited each day. Today was unbelievable...styrofoam containers, beer cans and bottles, LOTS of stripped off line thrown into the bushes, food bags....you name it. We cleaned up that spot...it only took us a few minutes to fill the one garbage bag we brought..... The real sad thing is that there are garbage cans every few hundred feet along the footpath that follows the creek. The spot we cleaned up literally had this garbage can about a 20 second walk away.... I have been wanting to fish local tribs for a while now....and now that I have gone, it is disheartening to see how fellow anglers have been treating it. Anyhow...just a small rant...I'll be taking a garbage bag or two with me each and every time I head there in the future.

Plane ticket from New Jersey to Toronto: $400 Hiring the Walleye King and Queen for 2 weeks of guiding: $10,000 Finally catching his first Canadian fish: $14,000 Blyght and I took him back out for another prime night of fishing. He finally hooked into his first fish. This monster (and now Canadian personal best) was 9 inches long, 5 inch girth and weighed in at a massive 5 ounces!!! After doing his happy dance, he finally posed for these two pictures. The smile says it all. After a huge fight that lasted about 4 seconds, the trophy fish came out of the water!!! Here's another pic....see how big the thing really was?? Now you know why we had to use the lip gripper on the guy! After spending about $1000 on lures and gear for Canadian fishing, it was all worth it in the end. He now has an awesome story to tell friends and family for years to come. The fish was released to get fatter and bigger for another fisherman to get a new Canadian personal best catch!! What a guy...a true sportsman!!!

Here are my goals.... 1) Spend lots of family time with my wife and kids on nice spring/summer days/nights fishing. 2) Catch my first Salmon 3) Catch my first Muskie 4) Take a long weekend...rent a cabin on a lake...have a guide for the first day and then my wife and I the rest of the time on the water In a similar thread earlier, I said I wanted to catch my first pike....but I did that last week

Thanks everyone for the comments on my band...as you can see, I have two favourite past times...music and fishing....the music is starting to get in the way of my fishing though....LOL. My band mates do not fish, so not likely we'll get them up at Lakair though...unless we supply them with LOTS of beer...haha. Here's a picture of us playing live at a friends cabin...it's an annual thing for us...rent the generator and play outdoors....the neighbours love it....LOL.

LOL....Hi Rick...and everyone else! We started to install that fence, but the police came and said something about not being able to do that...spent New Year's Eve and Day in jail.....hehe. Seriously, just busy with the holidays and company. We've still been heading to our spot....but the last time it produced anything it was that pike I posted about last week. My brother in law and I have been trying our hand at Steelheading at some local tribs...a few strikes, but no landed fish yet. The mornings we head out, we're out there fishing just pre-dawn...come home around lunch....nap in the afternoon....buy some more tackle...head to our night fishing spot....sleep.....I know it's a rough life!!! We went to Bass Pro Shops for the FIRST time yesterday....went there saying we didn't need anything and came out with $200 worth of stuff we "needed"...LOL. Sorry about the swill...we were looking forward to meeting everyone, but these holidays have been SOOO hectic....we really needed a day to recover. We'll try to make it to the next G2G for sure! Hope you had a great New Year Rick...thanks for asking about us.... Oh yeah....I've also been busy with my rock band...recording a new cover tune....if anyone wants to check it out, the URL is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0setbC8zVgM If you look closely....I'm wearing my OFC hat!!! LOL. Here's a few pics of my brother in law and I hitting the local trib...hard to believe it was Jan 2nd when it was taken!!! Gotta love this weather! Take care! Cliff

Great job Snag!!! I have a new found respect for you now that I've landed my first pike. After seeing those teeth on those guys, I have a new appreciation for all the ones that you manage to land!!! Hope you and your family had a great Christmas and will have a happy and healthy new year. Also...thanks for all the laughs with your great pics and reports this past year....

I look at it this way...you need money/credit to overspend....two things I dont really have....LOL.
-
Thanks everyone!!! I'm just amazed that we are still able to shore fish this late in December. That pike was sure different than hooking into a big walleye....an even more awesome feeling to actually land the thing. I'll be fishing all winter long if the temps stay like this....

Ok...my brother-in-law is in town from the States and we've been taking him to our secret Walleye spot a few times over the past week. Blyght and I did our best to show him our technique and he was doing great! He hasn't caught anything as of yet. Well, tonite we went out and about a half hour into it, I hooked what I thought was a pretty big Walleye! As I was reeling him in, it surprised me by instantly running and taking lots of drag. As he got closer he jumped out of the water a few times. I knew then it wasn't a Walleye...they normally fight for a minute or so and then come in like logs. Anyhow, this is what I pulled out of Lake Ontario.... My first ever Northern Pike...measured in at 34", 15.5" girth and weighed 10 pounds, 4 ounces. We bought a new rapala digital scale today, so we just HAD to test out right? haha. He was hooked pretty deep and I was afraid he wouldn't make it, but after using my new hip waders, I took him out about 6 feet and he took off splashing water on me. That's it for now...what a rush...my first ever pike.....what a day!!!

Hey everyone! My brother-in-law is here from the US, and we were going to try out a local trib on Friday. We have floats, hooks, bags, roe, leaders etc.... The only problem is that we dont really know how to tie the bags....how much roe per bag etc. We're hoping to hook into some of the awesome looking steelheads posted on here by other members. Any help would be appreciated....websites, personal experiences. Thanks in advance...hopefully we'll having something for a fishing report on Friday....
