Wow...this post really bring back memories. Back in 1980, my family went on a family trip to ALL those places you mentioned. I remember the columbia icefields and the Athabasca Glacier...going out in one of those cool vehicles...we stayed in both Jasper and Banff...visited Lake Louise, Malinge Lake....wow... I was just a kid, but that was the greatest family trip....thanks for bringing those memories back.

REPORT: Moon River and Simcoe kayak experiments
ccmtcanada replied to snag's topic in General Discussion
Here ya go Snag...here's the link to the nasty wound on that carp I caught... http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.p...pic=7176&hl= -
Wow...that equipment looks great! I'm still not sure I want to invest in all that....but if I keep having fun with the carp then you never know. Happy belated BD uncle buck! Andrea picks out some cool presents too

Wow...what an awesome report! I'm very happy to hear that the fundraiser was a success. The deal on that cabin/boat was incredible...how many PMs did you get so far for the name and location?? LOL. Good to see you got into some fish...despite the weather. -
Thanks Disco Phish...but...what you dont see are the number of times we go out and get nothing. We dont report on our skunks...LOL. Lots of times, we'll start by carping, and then once the sun goes down, we'll head off in search of some night time pike or walleye. The reports you see are just the carp....cause we didn't catch anything else on our multi species hunting...haha.
-
Thanks! It's not completely dark there, so you can at least see which way your line is moving. Once we get them closer to land however, we need the flashlight...for some reason it's harder to see them up close...go figure! The trout guys are pretty much gone...may see the odd one come out, but usually by 9pm, we have the whole area to ourselves.
-
Thanks Badger Shark...we still have lots to learn, but each time we go out we learn a bit more. As far as sharing tips...these guys are always there fishing for them...they already know the spot and that carp are in there because they see us pulling them out. I figure, give them a few tips...why the heck not? I got lots of help from ppl on this board...so it's kinda like paying it forward. Love the analogy to the caramel secret....LOL.

Thanks! Very cool videos.

Great job out there guys! I figured the skunk wouldn't last too long...nice little Browns!
-
Hmm....for Steelheading it was probably about 8 outings. I just started out fishing for them at the end of December last year....didn't land my first one until the end of January. For Walleye....once I caught my first one, I probably went out 15 or so times before landing my next one. That Walleye one really bugged me...here I was, going out night after night...in rain, wind and snow...sometimes wondering "What the heck am I doing out here??". Perseverence paid off though!

Wow...great job out there...fishing in less than ideal weather really paid off! Real nice looking pike you both caught there. Good luck on your next fishing trip!

ccmtcanada replied to ishingchippy's topic in General Discussion
Great job out there! Awesome looking pics...and the smiles says it all. I know what charter I'll be hiring if I ever come across some spare money...LOL. -
Great job captain!! That's great...a nice 27 3/4" entry for our team! Apart from the rain/snow thing, it looked a great weekend. Nice pics and report!

Well, after having some action pretty quick last night with the mixed ground bait, Bly went out and bought herself a spring feeder. Again...we only have 2 or so hours a night to fish, so we headed back to our regular spot for some evening/night fishing. I'm not sure if the fish are just biting better now, but we had action pretty much all night. Between the two of us, we went 5 for 7!! Our best night yet...not bad considering we were there from about 830 til 11pm. We did take a half hour break...some younger guys were there carping (with just corn on a hook) as well, but they didn't have any action...they wondered what we were doing that was different, so we took some time to explain what we've learned and the kind of gear we were using. I brought in the first one...about 10 minutes after the first cast....this ended up being our biggest of the night at 30" and 18 pounds 4 ounces. Then I got this smaller guy (27")....well fed though! Bly brought this nice 29" one in next... My turn again....28.5" Finally, Bly ended out night by catching this guy...a 29.5 incher with a nasty wound under it's fin like the one I posted the other week. Not that I'm counting, but I did catch more fish and the longest one of the night....but like I said...who's really counting....haha. Ok...I think I need help...been out fishing too much lately...but I cant stay away....ARGHHHH!

Great report! At least you had tons of action today. For me it's not always about big fish...it's just about ANY fish and the fun in fighting them. You have a sweet spot there...good luck tomorrow!!!

Moon Phases/Upcoming Nipissing trip
ccmtcanada replied to huey graphite's topic in General Discussion
LOL...loved that line here... The thread you were talking about with the poll was mine....we started tracking all kinds of info to see if there was a trend. Since I fish from shore, I need any advantage I can get! I dont have the luxury of going out and finding the fish in a boat. Oh well...Good luck on your trip!! -
Did a quick search on Youtube...would love to see the underwater videos...you have any saved as favourites? Could you paste a few links? Thanks.

REPORT: Moon River and Simcoe kayak experiments
ccmtcanada replied to snag's topic in General Discussion
Hey Snag! Great report...looked like you had a great time up there losing that 20 pounder. Oops...did I say that out loud??? Sorry!!! That sure was a monster!!! It looks like an amazing place to fish...a little different than the TO Islands that's for sure! Congrats on a successful trip.... Oh yeah...why the change back to SNAG from SNOG? Just keeping us on our toes?? haha. -
Hey everyone...thanks for all your responses!! Instead of posting a bunch of separate posts, I'll try to respond to everyone in this one... Joey - Better safe than sorry out there!! Dont blame you for not wanting to go out in a thunderstorm, and holding on to a lightning conductor!!! LOL. GCD - Never kept anything we've pulled out of the water, so we've never actually eaten any of our catches. I'm hoping for my first fresh fish fry up at Lakair in a few weeks! Wolfville - Thanks for the tips! I actually thought about the mixing with the water where I'm fishing...I pre-mixed it at home just to make sure the stuff would bind together...LOL. A mini Carp G2G sounds like a good idea...I'm not at the calibre of you and others on this thread, but I'm sure I can learn lots! MJL - If you dont mind half your mix on the floor, then I'll see if my daughter is available!! LOL. So far the costs of carp fishing are pretty minimal...if I can continue to catch them, then I wont go after the holders, alarms and baitrunners!! At least I say that now...LOL. As far as the offer for equipment, I think I'll keep my credit card to myself!! haha. Victor - I've seen that Y setup for lots of bottom fishing...I kind of like the feeling of the tug tug on the line when they take it. I have lots of patience, so I dont mind sitting there doing nothing...LOL. See my above comment to MJL about the want list...haha. Photoz - When I try to target something, I usually keep at it pretty consistently...catching Carp was on my to-do list for this year...I've seen them swimming around...always wondered what it would be like to bring one in. I'm in Whitby....I usually cant get out until 8pm and later...so let me know! Thanks for the offer! TBayBoy - We talked about hitting the tribs this fall....so the same offer stands for Carp...even though there are TONS of others on here who could probably get you into some nice ones more consistently than I could!! Fang- Hilarious story about your 8 yr old and the sling shot. Thanks for the recipe offer about hooking up...I'll keep in mind for sure! I'm game for a mini Carp G2G if others are....I just need a date and hopefully things work out.
-
Great report! That's a great catch for sure!! The smile says it all...something tells me that you'll have a fishing partner in her more often now.
-
Awesome report and pics! The twitch...pause retrieve has worked for me as well. I've yet to have one take a lure top water though...that must be a thrill! Great job out there....those are some real nice sized pike there!
-
Great report Mike..and glad to hear that you have learned from MY mistakes...LOL. I think it's awesome that your son is into fishing as much as he is. I love sitting back and watching my little one cast, wait, set the hook and reel in all by herself...I esp love the look on other kids faces when she hauls in fish...haha. Beauty Rock bass pics too...those are huge that's for sure...great job guys!
-
Wow..that's sweet! And on the fly too. Awesome work...gotta be great landing them on that light line.

Well, this Carp fishing thing is beginning to get addicting to me!! I printed off the recipe that Fang posted a little while ago, and went to the local Bulk Barn with my little one. She had a great time scooping all those dry ingredients for me. Then she saw all that candy...and that was it...I had lost her....LOL. A quick trip to the local tackle store and I was all set with my brand new 3 dollar spring feeder. Anyhow, we got home and put it all in a big pot....she wanted to help me so of course I was happy for her help. Lots of the ingredients ended up on the floor...but oh well...you're only young once...LOL. Here she is mixing the dry ingredients. After that was all done, she wanted to get her hands dirty by mixing in the water for me as well. Here she is testing the consistency of the mixture. We then vacuum sealed a bunch of packages for future outings. So, after dinner, bly and I headed down to a local spot to give it a try. Bly doesn't really get into the Carp waiting game too much, so she decided to head back to basics and floated a worm under a float while I played my waiting game. I think she secretly misses trib fishing!! We only had 2 hours to fish, so I was really hoping that this new mixture would deliver some results. Bly started catching fish first....a few bullhead and a nice sized rock bass. I had a few early hits ...one didn't take the hook and I lost the second one about 5 seconds into the fight....guess the hook wasn't set too well. Finally, my bite alarm (my finger) went off and I set the hook. This time I had it. Luckily for me, the Carp swam towards me for a while, so I didn't have to fight it all the way in. After about 5 minutes, I landed this 30", 15 pounder. Thanks to some great info sharing on this board, I was able to try yet another fishing technique that I know I wouldn't have tried if I just read it in a book. Now I gotta get that elusive 40 pounder...LOL. Until the Walleye and Pike are on in my area, I'll likely target these guys. Once the fall comes, it'll be back to the tribs during the day and Walleye hunting at night.
