Thanks everyone for your replies...I love seeing my daughter's face light up when she brings in a fish. She tried her best to sabotage me...by singing. When she sings to her line it's something like "I promise it's not a hook...it's yummy yummy food...go ahead and take a bite". Then she looks at my line and sings "Stay away fish, it's a hook...it's a trick...swim away". Then she smiles and laughs hysterically. Victor - Sure we get skunked....well there was a few days ago...no wait...we caught one...oh yeah...last Thursday...no wait...we got one then too.....guess you're right!! LOL. Seriously though, we get our fair share of skunks. Deano - Waterskiing...that's hilarious! I kept thinking to myself...I hope a carp doesn't take her bait....haha.

Yep...that's why I took the train today.... Commuting from Toronto to Oshawa area on a Friday is bad enough!! Throw in rain, hot and humid and no air conditioning in the car and the train is an easy choice....LOL

WOW!! Congrats!! Urban Planning...so you head to an undeveloped area....look around...find out if any fish are there and if so then recommend leave it as is??? haha. Seriously...it's a great accomplishment...enjoy your summer before the "little" thesis comes up!!

My 5 year old had me laughing my guts out this past winter when she declared "Dont eat yellow snow"....LOL

When Bly and I fish...this has worked many times. If fishing is slow, then we'll stop for a bit, take out a garbage bag and clean up an area. We believe that the fishing god's will reward us with a fish. The last time we tried this, we had only 10 minutes to fish. I put my rod down cause I had already caught one...bly hadn't. Sure enough, within that 10 minutes, she landed a beauty fish! I also NEVER go on an outing EXPECTING a fish. I expect TO fish, and hope to CATCH.

I didnt' look at the picture...LOL

As long as the person caught it in the States in their home waters, it's ok. If it's someone who lives in Ontario was down there visiting, then it's not eligible. At least that's what I think this mean....am I wrong? Here's the rules.... "Fish must be caught legally by angling methods only. No fish that appears to be caught illegally will be considered. Fish must be in season. Fish entered must comply with 'caught fish' regulations for the jurisdiction in which they are caught. Fish must be caught in waters of the the Province of Ontario (all of a body of water that lies at least partially within the boundaries of Ontario is considered Ontario waters...ie all of Lake Erie is eligible) or in the case of out of province members, fish must be caught in their home state or province or the waters previously outlined."

Hey Scott, Bly and I are already discussing the fall run...and hopefully getting into some salmon too! I already bought a new noodle from from Tightlines, so I'm pretty much ready. Good to hear from you again...and glad to see you still get to read the board from time to time. Looking forward to fishing a trib or two with you in the fall. Have a great summer...and dont be such a stranger around here! Cliff

As you may know, bly and I have been taking turns fishing at night since our oldest is away at camp right now. Instead of staying in the house all night on this beautiful night, we asked our 5 year old if she wanted to come and see where we fish after she's in bed. She jumped up and down and wanted to fish too! We packed snacks and all her little fishing gear and headed off to our spot at around 7:45pm. This was a real treat for her since her bedtime is 8pm. She doesn't have school tomorrow, so this was a perfect opportunity for her. We even brought the portable DVD player so she could watch movies if she got bored. Bly didn't end up fishing...she tended to our little one all night long. The end score was...my daughter 4 fish...and me 1 fish....so in her eyes she won...LOL. Here's what she was catching...little bait fish...she had a blast though. The bite for carp was pretty sporadic. A line bump here and a line bump there, but no takers. Finally at 9:30pm, I looked over at Bly and said "I think I may be skunked tonight"....then about 30 seconds later, I had one on. Sydney was already in the car watching a movie but wanted out to see the "big fishy" as she calls it. With Bly at the net, Sydney was wide eyed as she saw how big it really was!! It was a nice 30" and 16 pounds 6 ounces. We left there at around 10pm...with Sydney all happy that she was still outside when it was dark!! All in all, it was a great evening out.

You know...I cant remember...LOL. Seriously though, I got caught up in life...university, marriage, children, career etc. Kind of re-discovered fishing by accident. Also, I am the lead singer and guitarist in a rock band....I used to spend a lot more time playing and recording, taking vocal lessons, playing guitar. Now I can balance both.

I have been a member of this board since mid October of last year. I was just thinking about how things have changed for me since then. Back when I was a kid, I fished from a dock at a family friend's cottage in Eastern Ontario. I was quite excited to catch a sunfish...didn't care how big or small...it was a LOT of fun for me...as it is to many kids. I didn't really pick up a fishing rod again until August of 2006. Bly and I took the kids to a local fishing hole and bought them a few rods and starter tackle. Watching them with their lines in the water revived those old feelings from when I was a child. That same day, bly and I had our conservation licences and a few cheap combos. I was still using worms...under those big white and red bobbers....still quite happy to catch a fish of any size. That was about all I really knew about fishing. I had NEVER caught anything with a minnow or lures before. I was content with that until my first big fish!!! A nice 10 pound Walleye. Bly and I began working areas until we caught them on a fairly regular basis..I'd say the addiction had started. Back then, I remember telling her "Once it gets cold...that's it..no more fishing until the spring". The thought of sub zero temperature fishing, or standing in the middle of a cold trib was alien to me.....almost unthinkable!! Then this happened....on a cold January Day.... Fast forward a bit...I'm fishing with Canadian Copper on January 26th, hunting Steelhead. It's minus 26 celsius with the wind chill. Did it ever enter my mind that I was crazy?? NOPE! Here's a pic from that day...my hands nearly fell off for this picture it was so cold out. I found that I didn't just want to go fishing...I NEEDED to go fishing. So off I went, getting a Noodle Rod and trying to learn as much as I could about trib fishing. I NEEDED something to target during the "off" winter months. Heck, I even went ice fishing 2 times....another thing I thought I'd never do...not because I couldn't...I thought I didn't WANTto. Besides that, my local tribs had frozen over. Now comes spring...the Steelhead have left the streams, the Walleye are not in close enough for us to get, so what do I do? I begin targeting Carp. Man...those are fun fish to bring in. I believe the addiction is fully ingrained in my life now. The BEST thing about it for me personally, is that I get to share in this addiction with my wife! Without her, it wouldn't be nearly as much fun. There are people on this board who have followed us through the past 7 or so months, but it's hard to believe that a year ago, fishing was the FURTHEST thing from my mind. Now here I am, 2 weeks from the Lakair G2G. It seems like my previous life without fishing was eons ago. I've had the pleasure of meeting with many fellow OFNers, whether at a local swill, the Fishing for Tyler event, or just to meet and fish. It's been a fun ride so far. I guess what I'm trying to say is....thank you OFC....and all it's members. I can honestly say that this community has not only supported us with tips and encouragement, but it's a great place to talk about fishing and life....and meeting new people...either in the virtual world or in person. Anyhow, cant type...gotta get my gear together....going fishing tonite

Wow...incredible story...incedible catch....THATS INCREDIBLE!!! Hey wait....I just had great idea for a TV show....haha.

Oh man...I'm speechless. So as far as world record...is this an authenticated one and recognized? I'm just curious...cause it would be great to have this official in nature!!!

Cold front. Most fish will turn off feeding when a cold front goes through. On Tuesday night, the brunt of it came through, but yesterday was still cooler than normal. Wait til the waters warm some more and if they are still around, the bite will pick up again. Murky water also has an impact. I usually switch lures to ones that rattle and displace lots of water. That helps them hone in on it. Now, I'm no expert, but that's what I would chalk it up to.

This is a great report!! Bly and I like to hit our local trib to catch exactly the sized fish you got! It's a lot of fun...in an uncrowded trib...listening to nature, the water and watching your float go down. Ahhh...gotta hit a trib again soon.
-
Good going bly!!! All I can say is that it's my turn to fish tonite....unless you can convince our neighbour to babysit....LOL

I logged in last October and haven't left the keyboard since...LOL. Welcome to the site...looking forward to your reports and pictures!
