  1. Great pictures!! Thanks for posting them...I was looking forward to seeing them since I read the report Speedtroll posted.
  2. Nice report Tinbanger! Sounded like a pretty good morning on the water. Seeing that helicopter isn't something you see every day! Congrats on the fish too...will look back later when pics are added.
  3. Thank you everyone...it took me a full YEAR to learn that song. I'd learn to play a little of it...then practise it until I was happy with it...then learn the next little bit....and so on. Glad you enjoyed it!
  4. I was using 30 pound power pro...with a shock leader. Since power pro has no stretch, break offs can happen fairly easily...had one do just that last week. Good luck and at least you had 3 salmon on...many nights I'm out there with not even a hit.
  5. Thanks Joey...She didnt' buy a net. I had a salmon hooked the other week, only to have it break my 30lb power pro. She went out and bought shock leaders to try to avoid a repeat of that experience! I must say that it came in very handy!
  6. Bly and I have been heading out to a shore spot nearby for the last little while to see about all this talk about staging salmon. In preparation, I put a post up this past week about "how the heck are you supposed to land these things" after seeing a guy lose one. I received a PM from someone (you know who you are) to call them, and we chatted for a few minutes...him giving me some tips on lures and retrieves at night. Bly also went out (after I told her not to spend any money at the tackle shop) and went in search of a shock leader since we use power pro on our setups. She ended up bringing something home...just one thing...and it becomes important later on. After tonite, she's forgiven and gets a lot of credit for helping me land this thing! Anyways, on to the story. We got there at about 7pm and began throwing lure after lure. I tried crank baits and spoons. After spending all day yesterday casting for bass with bly and fishnsled, my arms started to get a bit tired. We hadn't seen the salmon jumping as much tonight, so I figured I'd head home without a fish yet again. Evening turned to dusk and most of the people who were there headed home. I put on a new spoon and decided to throw that for a while. At about 8:45pm, something slams my lure. I'm of course lazy and I was sitting down at the time. I haven't gotten from a sitting position to a standing position that fast in my whole life!!! I immediately set the hook and begin fighting this fish! I had hooked it about 70 feet from where I was sitting. After about 5 seconds, the thing went on a MAMMOTH run going out to about 120 feet from where I was!! I slowly and methodically brought the fish back to where the fight started...then ZIIIIIINNNNNGGG....back out there...only this time even further!! Once again, I play the fish....bringing it closer and closer...and just when I think it's time to bring it in....off it goes one more time. This time, not quite as far. It's dark out and I keep saying "come on...come to the surface...I gotta find out where this fish is!!!" It kept heading towards some structure where lets just say, if it got on the wrong side of it, he would have been gone. As the fish gets closer, we see a SPLASH on the other side of that structure. My heart sank for a split second, and then my fish finally surfaced in front of bly, who was waiting with the net. My trusty net girl does a professional job and gets it for me. We bring it to shore and begin the measurements. This is the BIGGEST fish, other than carp, that I have ever caught. Carp fight amazingly, but they paled in comparison to this salmon. Here it is...my first ever salmon...measuring in at 35" and weighing 17 pounds 3 ounces..... I look tired in this shot because...we'll I was pretty exhausted...LOL. What a rush this was...my hands are still shaking and it was caught almost two hours ago...haha. I couldn't fish immediately after...I had to have a smoke and sit down for a while...LOL. Well, there's my big fish story...the one that didn't get away.
  7. Give me 10 minutes...hands are still shaking...downloading pics from the camera....
  8. Great report! Looked like they needed more tempting with noise and flash. The rattles seemed to work out great for you! Congrats on a great day.
  9. Great report Brian! I kept waiting for..."and then this meteor hit my boat", or "went to start the car and fire came out from under the hood"....LOL Great job out there guys! Anytime spent on the water is awesome...especially in perfect weather...getting 2 PBs on one trip is pure bonus!! Congrats.
  10. Gerritt...you are doing some great work there! It'll be so much more rewarding because you are doing the work yourself. Things are coming along great and I cant wait to see you bring a fish into it! It's looking plenty comfortable bud! Oh yeah...you think a few of these would work ok???
  11. Thanks everyone!! That song took me a year to learn.... bassboy - I hear what you said about Lifeson...I grew listening to Rush and when I first heard Red Barchetta, I wanted to learn harmonics as well! The thing about this song, it's the picking hand that's harder than the harmonics themselves.
  12. Just for the record...it's fishnsled that has those "mishfish" ugly shoes...LOL. Mind you...mine were in the boat, I just didn't put them on...haha.
  13. He mentioned you while we were out fishing...saying that he really wants to fish with you and that schedules just haven't worked out as of yet. You wont be disappointed...he's a great guy!
  14. Hey now...couldn't find the 2004 champion? That year it was me...LOL. BTW...that guy is pretty cool....haha. <BR> <BR> I dont air guitar...this is me playing something a little more mellow...hehe.<BR> <object width="425" height="353"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyT9isyDcOQ"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyT9isyDcOQ"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyT9isyDcOQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="353"></embed></object>
  15. Great job out there! Awesome looking fish! Strange looking water there...were you near a nuke plant?? LOL.
  16. Bly and I had the honour of fishing with fishnsled again! We had a great time on the water with him back in July and he invited us out yet again to target bass on Cameron Lake. We jumped over that offer...he's a great guy to fish with...great conversation, great learning experience, overall great guy! Anyhow, Bly and I were up early and met him at his place at 530am. We loaded all our gear and headed to the Kawarthas. The weather down home was slightly overcast, but pretty much clear. When we got to the launch just after 7am, we were greeted with high winds, overcast skies that looked like they could open with rain at any moment, and whitecaps on the water. If this didn't clear up then fishing would be very tough and it could have been a short day. Here's the view of what greeted us as we left the launch area. We went across the lake at 35mph and arrived to much calmer waters. Fishnsled found a spot and we began casting for bass. Let me tell you, fishnsled put on a Bass CLINIC out there today! He began throwing a spinner bait and after about his 3rd cast, caught the first fish of the day. He then went on to catch the next 8 or nine fish!!! Nothing huge, but he just kept pulling them out of the water! Bly and I had a few hits, but nothing landed. He also caught the WGSF...so we had to take a pic.... Finally...I manage to set a hook properly and I pull in my first fish of the day...another Rock bass. The clouds kept rolling in and then we'd catch a bit of sunshine, but finally, we had a little bit of rain. It was cool seeing the "mist" as it came across the water at us. The rain ended and by this time, fishnsled finally let us in on his secret. He was telling us that the best lure to use was the *beep* *beep*, scented with *beep* and he showed us how to rig it up properly. With our rods now set up the "fishnsled" way, we began to get into some fish. Funny thing was, the bite turned off for him....LOL. Blys first fish of the day... My first bass.... At one point, Bly casted her line out there and had a huge hit! It slammed her lure and she went to set the hook. Once she did that, her line went completely slack...something had sliced right through her 30 pound power pro! Fishnsled turned the boat around and we went through the same area again. This time, fishnsled had a huge hit and set the hook...he lost the fish, but when he took a look at his lure, it had clean slices through it. We figure that Bly hooked into her first ever Musky and fishnsled's lure confirmed that. The sun finally came out and we got to shed our rain gear. The wind had died down and it was a perfect day out there. Just enough wind to drift, with slight adjustments with the trolling motor. Bly and I kept bringing in more fish... Bly completes the WGSF trifecta!! Another bass for me... Then, as suddenly as the bite turned on for bly and I, the bite turned off, so we decided to drift fish for a while. Fishnsled did catch more bass, but he kept putting them back as quickly as possible...and aplogizing for catching yet another fish...LOL. Bly and fishnsled then decided to do the patented TJ fishing pose...it didn't really catch us any fish, but hey, we were comfortable...LOL. Near the end of our day, fishnsled showed us some cool spots for us to take our canoe, including a stretch of a river that he said, he's never caught anything in. So, what does Bly do? She puts her line in and trolls one of Bernie's (Nipissing) jigs and catches this guy!! We then spent some time casting into lily pads and weeds...and fishnsled had all the action from here on. He must have landed another 5 or 6 fish in there...to our none...LOL. Fishnsled landed about 2 dozen fish today...he really did put a show on for us today. This was the first time for us on this lake, and it was an amazing experience for us. We'll be back here for sure in the canoe, to see what we can catch another time. Thanks a lot fishnsled...it's always a pleasure fishing with you. You've taught us a LOT about fishing and for that we are grateful! We'll all be hooking up again in a few weeks....he's invited us out to target muskie...and hopefully we'll be able to boat some....ahhh....cant wait!!!
  17. Hey there...someone did post this and it doesn't make a lot of sense, since they didn't find columnaris in Scugog carp...where it all began. Oh well....what can you do?
  18. <BR><BR>They dont really know how they are formed...just that they do. <BR> Check out this video of one...scary indeed! <BR> <embed src="http://www.liveleak.com/player.swf" width="320" height="240" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" flashvars="autostart=false&token=0aa_1178767829" scale="showall" name="index"></embed> <BR><BR> Aaron...thanks for the story...must have been scary, even though you know what to do and you did it, there is always that fleeting moment where you are not sure if everyone on board was ok. Thanks for sharing.
  19. Oh...I thought it was a fishing technique to make your canoe more stable...LOL
  20. It's a cold front that's going to cause the rain....but you never know...they may be active.
  21. LOL...great one...how are your kneecaps and shins??? hehe.
  22. Great job! Hoping to hook into my first one from shore as well soon! Beauty fish!
  23. Beauty eyes and bass there! Congrats on a good day out there...always fun when you're doing some catching...LOL.
  24. I agree with GCD....just go the freakin doctor! If you get a secondary infection you could get seriously sick.
  25. Our local carp spot that I fished at this past spring had average water depth of 3 to 4 feet. Went back the other night and it's now a beach. This cant be good!!!
