  1. Thanks again...we look forward to seeing you guys again!!! Hope Andy is feeling a bit better....he seemed to be having a hard time getting around yesterday.
  2. If this was closer I'd be all over it with the little one! We're aiming for the OFAH sponsored event locally this year.
  3. Happy to hear this turned out as good as it could considering the circumstances! I always hate this weekend....so many people out there for the first time of the year....and accidents always seem to happen. Let's hope for a safe weekend for everyone!
  4. Great job out there! Any ones you can get this time of year are just a bonus. You've done your homework/legwork and it paid off for you. Try downsizing your pictures....or convert to .gif format. You'll be able to attach more to your message that way. Another way would be to upload your pics to www.photobucket.com and direct link them here. If you want to try that way (and have the pics full size and in your posts), let me know....I can send some pics on how to do it. Again, great job out there!
  5. Wow...great thread. I had no idea you needed a harbour license. I was thinking of heading out there in the boat, and this info is KEY.....
  6. Great stuff!!! Some nice pike there...and good numbers as well. That little one is great!! It's mouth barely opens big enough for that treble hook...LOL.
  7. LOL Glen!! Great job out there! That's one great looking fish...with some nice colours to boot. Let me know if you need a net guy (I'm pretty good at netting all bly's fish), or a video guy.
  8. I did write one Glen! Put it up this afternoon. Carole and our oldest are out at the carp spot though...she has one so far....hopefully they get into more before the night is out....
  9. Congrats on your first whitefish! That's one species that I'm looking to get this year....have never caught one of those before!
  10. I don't see any picture....
  11. I had planned to take the Friday before the long weekend off to avoid the crazy commute out of the city after work. Originally, bly and I were to fish the TO Islands, but because the wind forecast was favourable, we were itching to get back out on the water. We picked Sturgeon Lake and decided to ask Big Cliff for some tips on fishing the lake. We brought our little one along and we had an amazing day. We didn't get into big Walleye, but our goal was to get Sydney her first Crappie and her first Walleye. The plan after was to meet up at Big Cliff and Sue's place to have some dinner. We got up to the boat launch at around 1030am. It goes to show you how respected Big Cliff is up there....when we mentioned we were going to visit them after our day on the water, he gave us a discount on the launch and said we could have use of any available slip all day long if we wanted. I had a little trouble starting the motor...seems that the darn thing will start up and then stop before it has a chance to get warm. Then I pull and pull and pull and nothing happens until finally, for some reason it just fires right up like nothing is wrong. Anyhow, Bly took Syd to fish the marina while I worked on the motor. Within minutes, her float goes down and she lands the only crappie of the day. I went to get the camera, and by the time I got there, she had put her line back in and had another fish on....LOL. Here's the pic... The motor finally started up and we were off in search of crappie and walleye. The panfish in this lake are pretty darned BIG. They put the ones to shame from a little pond we sometimes fish. Here's a few from the day....including Bly's first ever Kawartha walleye.... She got a little sleepy, so she decided to rest a little in there.... Again, back to the fishing, these little panfish actually pulled some drag on our little ones reel....I love this shot of her fighting a fish.... The result.... We decided to stay out there until about 430, and we headed back towards the marina. Just as we were going to dock the boat, we saw Sue waving from their place. At around 5, we arrived there and Big Cliff had just come home from work. They prepared a really nice meal for us, with Big Cliff manning the BBQ and Sue fixing up the rest of dinner. Sydney just LOVES it here, and was busy watching movies, pointing out insects that were on the walls, and wanting to take a bath in their great tub....LOL. After eating, Syd declared that that was the "Best dinner she ever had". She sure knows how to turn on the charm when she wants to....hehe. Cliff and Sue (and their great dog Andy) really make you feel at home when you are there. They are super people...when we were there it felt more like we were visiting with family....if that makes any sense at all. Anyhow, Sydney finally got her wish and got in their big tub...she wanted a lifejacket on because it was so big.....LOL. After her bath, Big Cliff made it his mission to get Sydney into her first walleye. We got down to the dock at around 830 and he rigged up a rod for her to use with a minnow. There were lots of hits on it, but we were having trouble with the hooksets...but he didn't give up! Finally, there's a light tap tap on the line and Bly sets the hook for her and hands the rod over to our little one. Finally...her first walleye....she was pretty excited. Take a look at the pic....looks like she's saying, with attitude, "There...you cant escape me....PUNK!"......LOL After that, Sue mentioned ice cream and we were heading back up to their house. Sydney worked on that while we chatted for a few more minutes. It was coming up on 10pm....Sydney was still awake...and when I said it was time to leave, she said "NO!!" and grabbed on to Big Cliff's arm and hugged it and wouldn't let go. She has NEVER done that to anyone before...even her own grandparents!!! That just goes to show you how great they are to us. We've been invited back up there to spend an entire weekend later this summer and we are already excited for that. After some big hugs, we left to hit the road. Thanks Cliff, Sue and Andy, you are all amazing people....we're looking forward to seeing you again!
  12. Thanks for the kind words about Sydney Roy....we're hoping to come and visit you as well, so get ready....LOL. You can get first hand experience with Sydney then...I hope you have a big bathtub, because she's in love with Cliff and Sue's tub....haha.
  13. What a fantastic day for us....fishing on the lake from noon til 430 and then walking from the marina over to Big Cliff's place for dinner and a great evening! Dinner was great, the chatting and company was even better! Sydney still can't stop talking about it and Carole and I were saying on the way home that it was just like we were visiting family. Thanks SO much again Cliff (Sue and Andy too of course)...I have tons of pictures from the day and will post a thorough report later on today. We'll be back for sure....hopefully next time you'll be able to come out fishing with us as we still cant seem to catch anything but panfish....not that there's anything wrong with that....LOL.
  14. LOL...nice one WalleyeMD!
  15. Winds are supposed to be 25 to 30km/h on Saturday....so I'd probably go for the most wind friendly lake.
  16. Cant argue with that....LOL
  17. Dang you're fast Glen....LOL
  18. Here it is Randy... http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17567 You have to go the OFNCommunity home section...the tourney section is at the bottom.
  19. The only thing I could think of is this....you have to keep your fish right? That means if the limits were really low....say 1 or 2 per outing, you'd have to stop fishing once you had your limit. If mortality numbers of catch and release is pretty high, then in the long run are you not saving more fish if a normal outing is 4 or 5 fish? Anyhow, might just be me hallucinating, but that thought crossed my mind....LOL.
  20. You are right Nomad...they were around years and years ago, but are now extinct. I read a few reports a little while ago (I'll look for them and post links if I can find them again), and there is a team that goes out and investigates lake where they are reported to be found. They have caught blue coloured walleye, but as mentioned before, it's a by-product of their slime that gives them the blue colour....they are not the elusive Blue Walleye. I'll see what I can do about digging those links up...
  21. YEah....I don't really leave....If I'm fishing a creek mouth I look for the water where it's moving...I find the ones out of the shallow areas and in the current are feeding....but shhhh....don't want to tell many people that....LOL.
  22. Go right ahead...but like MJL said, when they are spawning they generally are not feeding. The nature of carp fishing (ie. bottom fishing) means you wont accidentally snag one either. When I see all that spawning activity, I pack up and leave.....LOL
  23. Great point! Would be the first time a 20 year old would be paying kids under 18 to buy stuff for them instead of the other way around....
  24. Seems they conform to the Sport Fishing License rules....here's an excerpt from the regulations. Anglers do not need a fishing licence if they are: 1. Residents of Ontario and Canada under 18, or 65 years of age or older, and in possession of their birth certificate. 2. Disabled Ontario and Canadian residents, eligible for and in possession of either: - a Canadian National Institute for the Blind National Identity Card; or - an Ontario Ministry of Transportation Accessible Parking Permit. 3. Ontario and Canadian residents in possession of their birth certificate and accompanied by and requiring the direct assistance of another person to fish and to follow applicable fishing laws due to a condition of mental impairment or a developmental disability, a learning disability or dysfunction, or a mental disorder. Those who qualify to fish without a licence must follow the same catch and possession limits as a Sport Fishing Licence.
