Great stuff Sean. I like your approach to all your fish. Pick a species, do some research and then get out there and get it done! Nice pics as always...I keep waiting for you to post a "Any tips on sturgeon" thread....hehe.

My little one has been asking all week when we could go in the boat again to fish, so we were hoping that the winds wouldn't be too bad out there today. We arrived at the public boat launch in Port Perry....and happy to see that the docks had been put in. A quick launch and we were off. It became apparent as we were crossing the lake that much of the lake wouldn't be kid friendly with the strong east/southeast winds. We found some sheltered areas to drift, but as soon as we hit that wind, it became pretty cold pretty fast. We continued along close the shoreline until we found a weed edge and we put the anchor down. We set up our little ones rod with a bobber and worm, and before Bly and I had a chance to setup, she had her first fish on of the day....this little rock bass. She's wearing my sweater in this pic....it's a bit big for her, but it helped keep her warm. Here's the release shot...she wanted me to take this picture.... Not long after that the OPP came by to visit...it was pretty exciting...our first ever inspection with the boat...LOL. They were very friendly, and kept on asking our little one if she caught any big fish yet. A few minutes later, they were off, checking the other boats in the area. She caught a few small perch before we landed our monsters....here's Bly's first fish ever in the boat....she's happy that's out of the way now. I landed a few small ones, and then we decided to have our lunch. After lunch, my little one puts her line in and after waiting intently, her bobber goes down FAST! She sets the hook and lands this 12" perch! This qualifies for her first ever Ontario Angler Awards certificate. She said that she wanted to eat this fish, so we kept it for a fish fry. The bite began to turn off, but Bly, being as smart as she is packed some bubbles for our little one....this worked magic for at least a little while. The winds began to pick up something fierce (I found our later on that the gusts were up to 50 km/h). We decided to head back towards the boat launch...and I'm glad we did. The waves were getting pretty big and I had a hard time with the boat...trying not to soak everyone as we headed back. The boat came out of the water pretty quickly, and we decided to fish from shore for a little while. Our little one continued to kick our butts landing lots of fish this size... The winds kicked in even more and the lake was filled with white caps. Boats larger than ours began to come in, with guys saying the conditions were pretty much unfishable. After we got in, she wanted me to clean the fish right away, so she got up on a chair and watched as used the filet knife. She wanted the guts to play with, so out they came. She then said "Hey daddy, that's strange, there's a fish tail in there". Lo and behold, out came a little fish from the fish's stomach. Here's a pic of her with her fried fish....her first fish fry. We had a great day out there despite the weather. I'm hoping for at least a few calm days out there this summer....because every time we head out, or want to head out winds are a huge problem. Hope to get out there again soon! This having a boat thing is great! It beats sitting on shore all the time that's for sure!

Girls Night Out - Some SERIOUS fish here.....
ccmtcanada replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Yes well...we've talked to her about that. She says she has non-fishing friends and other hobbies and is a straight A student.... Where did we go wrong? We are so ashamed. -
I have a 14 foot aluminum, no flooring, large deep cycle battery, 30 lb thrust trolling motor, 18hp mercury motor, say 100 pounds of gear. Bly and I had it out today at had it running full out for the first time since we bought it. The GPS clocked us going at 21.2 mph (34 km/h) on pretty calm waters. Not sure how much weight the floors weigh, but if it's just you in there, you should be able to beat our speed.
-
Yep! Hair rigs and boilies rule....LOL. Great stuff and nice fish!
-
Have a great summer Wayne (and Leah of course). Hope it's filled with great memories! If you're smart you won't give Bly your number....Leah and Bly may just talk the summer away in one phone call....LOL. Hope to see you at some point!

Hey Scott....I haven't tried for any drop backs this year. My loss. I've caught a ton (literally it feels) of ugly fish though..LOL. Great stuff....when you stop catching or only catch a few, I don't have a prayer out there...

Mum's been trying to get me out for awhile to catch some carp, but our schedules haven't been able to sync up until Friday night. (ie…my Dad kept going instead of me). My friend wanted to go, so she took both of us out to her usual spot. We decided that the sound effect of the night should be beep, for whenever we got any action. After giving me her reel, Kaytea using another, we filled the feeders and threw the lines in the water. For awhile, it was just chatting, saw a couple jump (which was really cool!) and some line rubs. All of a sudden, I felt the line go duhnk, duhkn, duhnk, WSSSSSSH! And being excited, I pinched the line. OW! My first fishing related injury and lesson: Don't pinch braid! Mum came to my rescue because the fish was taking line like there was no tomorrow, but sadly, we lost it. I brought it back in, reloaded, and it was back in the water. A little bit later, after the sun was all the way down, the line goes again and this time I didn't pinch the line, and mum helped me land my first carp! 31 inches! She asked me if I wanted to hold it…not so much. I did however include the ever so attractive 'This-fish-better-not-slap-me-in-the-face-while-I'm-smiling' face. I named this one Suzie. While mum was releasing it she had me sit in her chair and hold her setup while I was on the phone with Dad. As he picked up, the rod started jerking around. Poor Dad got to hear "I caught a-MOOOOOOOOMMMM, come get your rod!" This one decided to fight and was rolling around and swimming under my friend's line the whole time she was bringing it in. Completely mangled the rigging. Mum got a nice 32 incher. As she's measuring this one, Kaytea starts yelling "Beep! Beep! BEEP!" and mum had to rush off to help her, leaving me with a camera, a rod, and a very ugly fish. Mum seemed to have forgotten that, because after Kaytea brought it in (with very little help!) Mum said, "Holy! Manda, get the net!" "Mum, I can't. There's a fish in it." We switched places, I grabbed Kaytea's rod so Mum could get her fish back in. She brought Kaytea's fish up, and Kaytea proceeded to squeal, "Ewwwww! It so ugly! Can I touch it?" We got the scale out and measured it, cause this thing was HUGE! 36 inches, 25.5 lbs! Not bad for a girl who's never caught anything other than a panfish, huh? We decided the fish's name would be Barb. As in Barbara. Mum put it back in, and things settled down for a bit. A little bit later, Kaytea beeped again, and then stated, "This one isn't as big as the other one." She was right, and it was a 20 incher. This fish was named Earl. We had lots of fun, and Mum's going to set the both of us up to get certificates for our fish. She's also said that she'd take us out again, and I think we're going to take her up on it.

Thanks everyone, even though I was skunked, I had a great time out there. I did have one take my boilie right from my rig. My rod bent over and it started to bolt. It managed to take the boilie and spit the hook.....hate it when that happens....LOL. -
Sweet setup! Hope you get out there soon to put some new slime in it!
