  1. Remember one thing in life and it will get you far. Nobody owes you a living, that's up to you. May sound harsh, but it's definitely reality.
  2. Well I'm glad you folks all kept hoping! No new signs of the disease anywhere that was scanned, including her spine, after 10 weeks on this nasty drug. The fair sized spot that they've been monitoring on her left lung looks like a plant that's been attacked by bugs. March's CTs shows a solid mass and todays CT appears as being partially eaten and full of holes. Her Oncologist was pleasantly and honestly surprised by that, as there is absolutely no data or known history when using this drug on Ewing's! Since it appears this Pazo drug is working, she will stay on it but her Oncologist has cut it back by having her go 3 weeks on and 1 off, instead of full time. Starting tomorrow she's taking her week off so this should tell us by weeks end if it's what's causing the extreme pain for her.
  3. Well she's not the Health Minister anymore. Guess she should have looked into what her job title was before she let her "ethics" get in the way of doing her job!
  4. Flew a guy to Temagami today. His wife dropped him at my house this morning and then she proceeded to their cottage South of Snug Harbour. Plan was leave here, to Temagami to look at an airplane I'm brokering, and then on the way back I was going to drop him at his dock for the whole experience of float flying. We were 8 miles North of Snug Harbour (Parry Sound)... Georgian Bay was absolutely clear and POP, 2 miles later the entire lake turned into a fog bank on a beautiful cloudless day. We cruised up and down the coast.. couldn't even see his Bay to land. Some quick texting to his wife and then me seeing a Marina in a semi open bay I dropped him in Dillan Cove and was back in the air in 45 seconds. That bay closed in behind me as I was climbing out. His experience went from the "oh honey it's great to see you" to "hey honey, can you put down your gin and tonic and come and get me!" So don't assume because it's a gorgeous day as you head out, that at 3 pm in the afternoon this can't happen. Don't forget that compass!!!
  5. If any are so inclined, this is Jen's donation page for the Relay for Life tomorrow. This will be the 5th consecutive year that she's walked, all while fighting Ewing's Sarcoma. Some years she's walked both in Toronto and Midland. http://convio.cancer.ca/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFL_ON_odd_?px=4481060&pg=personal&fr_id=17784
  6. Jen got an automated phone call out of the blue the other night, reminding her to be at her Friday 8:15 AM MRI at Sunnybrook. Good thing they reminder call, as nobody mailed or phoned to tell her this was happening. Yesterday Dr Sahgal called Jen to say he wanted to see her next Wednesday. Leah and Jen made the decision to go last night vs trying to get into the city this morning in the rain. After Jen spent 2.5 hours packing (OCD and morphine..) they finally got in to the city last night at about 2am.. got to bed at 3 and then had some stupid alarm going off every hour in Jen's power panel cabinet. Up at 6:55 and across the city for Sunnybrook. Jen had her head MRI and while that was happening Leah went looking for Sahgal and managed to get him to see Jen shortly after the MRI, to at least save one trip and an extra day in the city. "All looks good" is all they got from him in the waiting room and "I'll book another scan and see you in about 2 months". So GOOD news there and now the wait for everything else she's having scanned on Tuesday. Lungs, Lumbar sacral spine and another head MRI at Sinai for their tracking. Bad news is her pain that revolves around her body is so severe, especially when it's in her spine, that she's sometimes taking 60 mg of slow release morphine per day and additional 1 or 2mg hydromorphone tabs as needed in between just to dull the pain. That would put any of us out like a light. Thankfully we have my buddy Dr Helt coming by the house regularly and Rob called Dr Razak and had the Lumbar spine CT (or MRI) added onto Tuesdays schedule to rule out that there is nothing new going on there and that it's just the Pazopanib pills that are causing this as a side effect of the drug. Hope like hell it's the drug. Jen is doing the cancer walk tomorrow night in the city with some of her gfriends. Hopefully with one of them or Leah pushing Jen in a chair, but we know how stubborn she is so I'm sure she'll at least walk the last little way of the victor lap. I imagine they'll be staying in Jen's apartment until Tuesday, as Jen can't handle much extra moving around, and I'll be driving down to Mt Sinai for the Razak appointment on Tuesday afternoon. Will update again once we're back from that.. could be Wednesday pending Jen's ability to travel.
  7. Jen's oncologist told Leah to "be a good Mother and go out on Yonge St and buy some.. as the stuff from Health Canada is crap" ! Thankfully we know a bunch of law abiding OFC members..
  8. Cavitation plates great if the motor's not running!
  9. Just use a milk pitcher for the plastic bags. Get one at the dollar store... already has a handle to hang off the boat and more importantly to get a good hold on the container when nature calls. As for the boater, condolences to his family. How it happened doesn't matter to them...
  10. If I opened at 5am and you showed up at 4, I'd be swearing too !
  11. Get anchored beside any shoal marker, just before the sun sets, and throw a worm out on a jig. And down in the South East Arm I'd be trolling or jigging for Lakers myself, lots of good water down there to do same.
  12. Crazy Ivan brings up a good point... your boat should ALWAYS be totally on the bunks. Your boat hull should not be hanging off beyond the end of the boards. If you trailer with the boat hanging off the back of the bunk boards there is a significant chance that you will deform the hull skin just before the transom flange. If this happens not only have you damaged your hull, but it will cause the boat to plane incorrectly / add drag / etc.
  13. If it's not "keeper" size, dead or alive it has to be released. Is what ticks us off in the winter when we catch slot size 'eyes off bottom in 80 FOW, when fishing for Whitefish. They're DOA at the hole, but have to be shoved back down! I'm just glad the Muskie didn't make it in the boat... he's having a hard enough time handling that little 'eye!
  14. But was she cute in her PJ's Roger??
  15. Pending the hub design.. if it does happen to slip it may very well lock back in in the same spot. The into reverse and then working again makes me think it's still the hub. Either that are you have a main drive shaft coupling that's about to let go for good, but would be pretty rare for one of those to strip. If it was dogs or gears... you'd hear it and at full throttle it would be a one time deal!
  16. I put my boat in the garage Paul !! Buy the snowmobile first.... thanks ! ...
  17. A monumental day here, but you might have to be living it to fully understand the significance. Jennifer actually got off the couch and came to the dinner table for steak and potatoes tonight. A first in about 8 weeks! Didn't eat a lot, but a huge step from where she's been the past 2 months, with the first real meals in that entire time frame happening in the past week only. Prior she was probably consuming less than 100 calories a day on this nasty $$$$ drug. Has it in her mind she's doing the cancer walk in Toronto next weekend as well... or at least the victory lap.
  18. My 26 year old tires don't have a single crack in them FM.. sorry to disappoint you!
  19. As have I... but I keep the tires covered when the boat trailer is outside all summer in the marina storage yard. Mine are now 8 years old and are as new. That said, the enclosed trailer I get to use for 1/2 the year (winter) had marathons on it and they didn't make it 4 years before the sidewalls all cracked around the perimeter. Probably stored out in direct sunlight while the sister-in-law had it on Manitoulin, but I don't know for certain where they had it stored, other than I know it was left on the grass as they rusted the rear ramp door hinges off the frame.
  20. Yes.. I was headed SOUTH at 7am, unfortunately! 3 dots look to be large rocks at best. I don't think it's debris in the water, but could be considering how high everything is right now. Picture is of the swelled river headed into Sturgeon Falls. ...and it's never too late to get into flying. I can even sell you a plane...
  21. I got you a new picture of the best part of the lake this morning at 7am !!
  22. As for the 14 years on the tires... it's easy.. park your tires on boards (not the grass or pavement). Cover said tires from the sun with a sheet of plywood leaned up against the wheel well if they face the sun. I still have the original Road Kings on my tri axle x 32' deck trailer that I bought in 1989. Not a thing wrong with them and they'll be 26 this fall. Maybe I'll buy new ones when they turn 30! ..and the bunk board as Lew points out reminds me I have a broken one under my boat, that luckily held up enough to load and haul home last fall. Knew there was something else I was supposed to make up over the winter..
  23. As long as his wife isn't tracking it... he couldn't probably park it at Fanny's !
  24. Went through this for the lake A... Looked at every brand, how they were made and in the end ProBuilt's system won. As far as I'm concerned it's the best one out there and as a neighbour found out after getting other systems quoted... it's cheaper in $$'s as well. Anyone with some ability and a trim saw can put it together in short order. Posts in place and measure the distance between.... measure three times, cut once on the aluminum. Regular wood cutting blade in the miter saw works perfect on aluminum.. without any damage. Just take your deck measurements to a dealer and the computer lays out the order sheet. Even Moosebunk approves...
  25. Well make sure Jim doesn't drop your beer and Darren gets you there safe!
