been in my boat eh Terry! lol Nothing wrong with a portable and a full length antenna. Works as well as a fixed. Both have virtually the same power outputs, if not identical. Bonus with the portable... you can take it in the trailer lew and listen to the weather before heading out. Emil.. I can listen to weather on my portable on Temagami..with the little rubber ducky antenna even. Adapter is available from Durham Radio. Had a hard time finding it but thanks to Terry for the source. I have a 6' Antenna up in the bow. It's usually just tucked into the "life jacket" netting up there and receives just fine that way. If I really want to get "out" on it.. I stand it up in the corner.

Replacing Oil Filter in Mercury 9.9 fourstroke?
irishfield replied to Bing's topic in General Discussion
I looked again... and definitely no filter or screen.. Dug out the manual... no mention of a filter in it either. Shows how to drain and fill the oil... no filter install/#/info what so ever. Guess they determined it was a cost reduction they could make without reliability issues. -
Just be sure you have the trailer ownership in the tow vehicle glove box !! The big thing they're looking out for is stolen boats and trailers. Might even want a copy of the vessel licence in the tow vehicle.... will save you unsnapping the trailering cover and trying to get to the glove box on the side of the road.

You saw his leg shakin too did ya Roy! She almost got even... hooked his pants.. could very well have been his leg.

I've been nailed for this before towing my 36' triple axle with absolutely no weight on it. Female OPP officer (after they chased me down with two cars and boxed me in like a take down) with tape measure measured axle centre to centre to determine it's weight capacity supposably (give me a break..it's 9 tons lol) and charged me with "failure to show device". I think it was a $180 fine back then... divide that by the number of years since 1989 and I'll take a few of those over the yearly safety expense. Anyone that knows me knows I dont' drive or pull junk (the odd truck that the wheel falls off.. but.. ) . They never even asked to see lights work, brakes work.. and then I drove away. Also got the lecture on S hook chains... "have to be closed blah blah blah". Well they are now... but according to MTO's website closed hooks are only a SUGGESTION. As for this 4500kg GVWR... guess I'll be pulling my rig across the weight station short of North Bay on the way to the lake and keeping the weight slip. Maybe I'll just drop my boat on the scales and get a weight for it. My boat trailer has a GVWR of 7000lbs/3175kg. actual boat and trailer with a full fuel tank and gear don't weigh more than 4500 lbs / 2041 kg. My truck.. based on the GVWR on the ownership is 3000 kg. So based on what I'm doing I should be legal.. now if I somehow manage to put a deck on the boat trailer and tow concrete blocks.. maybe not !

It did have a key problem once though...

A magnificent fish Jamie.. and I presume the lad had a licence to exercise his legal rights!

Replacing Oil Filter in Mercury 9.9 fourstroke?
irishfield replied to Bing's topic in General Discussion
I don't know.. if yours is the screen type thing.. as has been said they were yamaha power heads.. from '95 to '02.. so maybe your '03 was an early production still using the screen? When you say the port side of the engine.. under the cowling or on the side of the case.. maybe I have been into too much aluminum dust.. -
Replacing Oil Filter in Mercury 9.9 fourstroke?

Well I had to go look again.. just to be sure all this aluminum dust hadn't really set into my brain... and nope there is no filter on my 2007 9.9 4 stroke pro kicker. -
Replacing Oil Filter in Mercury 9.9 fourstroke?
irishfield replied to Bing's topic in General Discussion
Yep.. same as my 5 Hp Honda 4 Stroke.. no filter... no big deal if you do the annual change. We run 100/150/210/285 HP aircraft engines 50 hours or more between oil changes without filters in many cases. -
Retirement Dave... gotta love it! lol

They break as well Paul... from vibration. 'tis why we use strand wire in most of our toys. Solid wire's for houses.

Replacing Oil Filter in Mercury 9.9 fourstroke?
irishfield replied to Bing's topic in General Discussion
Okay.. this one peaked my curiosity... apparently '95 to '02 use a filter like this I also see listings for this filter for 8/9.9 and 15 .. but have no idea what year they go on. All I know is my 2007 doesn't have an oil filter... not one that I've found at least ! lol -
Yep..with the correct solder and done correctly. Some good quality (read not CTC) Butt connectors are the better option for many! lol

Replacing Oil Filter in Mercury 9.9 fourstroke?
irishfield replied to Bing's topic in General Discussion
No the manual does actually say to change the oil and filter every 100 hrs or once a year... there just isn't a filter. Same dialog in my 9.9 pro kicker manual. -

How much would you pay for a custom earmold for BT?
irishfield replied to wuchikubo's topic in General Discussion
Yes was a great help Stan. Took her awhile to commit to it.. but all the info helped push her to do so. A pile of money.. but in the grand scheme of things be just great that she can understand her grandchildren/greatgrandchildren.. and us.. for a change ! Actually back to attending church and she can hear what's going on... -

Weather just turned to snow up here as well.. it never ends... -
NO it's apparently not Brian.. I have to go somewhere as well...

Should be able to hit their website with a trailer serial number /model number and get the details. I know I did that for my Shorelander.

Really depressing listening to helicopters for a dozen hours today and feeling helpless with ceiling too low to legally get my airplane out and join in.... can't imagine the families "situation". -
Adventure Fishing Maps - Best and Only out there?
irishfield replied to MSBruno's topic in General Discussion
I've got a spare Kokoko Lake map sitting on the kitchen table in Temagami! lol Good maps... fair price. Not exactly accurate all the time.. but not much else out there.. other than the free ones on Anglers Atlas. -

irishfield replied to wuchikubo's topic in General Discussion
You could just buy an Epoq XW hearing aid for $3585.00 and use the fob for the blue tooth ! Sorry Stan.. couldn't resist. Mom did get her "new ears" btw! -
A "single" barbless hook on Nipigon is just that.. a single hook. And a "hook" according to the regs is a single, double or treble...so if you're using a rapala... you have to strip it down to one hook and pinch/file the barbs off. Many hooks won't pass "barbless" with them pinched! Does the credit have a spot in the reg that states a single "point" ???
