  1. Great vid TJ. You're right, I for one hadn't seen that before. How long ago was that videoed? Jack.
  2. The Curado 2ooE is an excellent reel deal. I bought a 300E (larger line capacity) earlier this year. It is a phenominal reel. Jack.
  3. Too Cool. What a great kid and family. The fish wasn't too bad either. Thanks Spalsh.
  4. Very sorry for your loss. Loosing someone to a sudden situation is definately easier on the departed, but it sure as hell is hard on the survivors. God bless, Jack.
  5. Buy another battery Johnny and take the Aqua Vu icefishing with you. Its the one thing they're good for. I use mine all the time. If the fishing's slow you can screw around & explore with it. Seriously, I usually drill a 2'nd hole near the one I'm manning and put the finder and camera down it. You can buy the batteries at "The Source" for alot less than a hobby store. Jack.
  6. Very crafty. Sounds like that CO worked for the Ministry of Natural Resourcefulness!! I got checked out last January while ice fishing on a remote lake a couple of hours nortwest of Sudbury. I sledded in about an hour off of the hiway with 2 old timers who belonged to a group that had a hunt camp on the lake. On the 2'nd morning we were there out of the blue comes a new Rev XP ridden by a CO. He checks us out & asks How the fishing is. We hadn't caught one bleepin fish to that point and when we told him that he proceeded to tell us that the lake was fished out 3 years previously when some sports columnist in Sudbury wrote about how great the lake was through the ice. That column apparently led to the lake being overrun with fishermen. My point is that he knew there were no fish, why bother spending his valuable time and resources to be on that lake at all.
  7. I visited and fished at Galveston Texas last year. I met a few locals and did some kayak flats fishing for Redfish. They told me about the local fishing website that they frequented. When I got home I checked it out and still drop in regularly to see what's going on. www.2coolfishing.com Anybody hear about the 3 Texas fishermen who were recently lost at sea for 9 days with their 23 foot Sea Chaser catamaran style boat. I happened upon a thread on that site about these guys. I followed the thread for the whole time they were missing. I couldn't believe how the members of 2cool came together to aid in the search for the three. They informed all commercial air and marine traffic of the missing fishermen, arranged their own searches (over and above what the US Coastguard was doing). They chartered search planes, and even raised funds in a trust fund to pay for fuel for the planes and boats. What a community they are!! By the way the 3 guys were rescued 180 nautical miles off shore 9 days after they left shore for an overnight sailfishing excursion. They were found by a local car dealer out fishing for sailfish on his 47 foot sport yacht. He had been fishing in Louisiana and was unaware of the missing boaters and just happened to sea them bobbing on the horizon. They were about 100 nautical miles northeast of where their boat had taken on water and flipped over 8 days prior. They clung to the hull, living on chips, crackers and 30 gallons of fresh water in the washdown tank of their vessel. They used the washdown hose as a straw and drank from the tank while sitting on the hull. Anyway that's the only other fishing forum I frequent. Jack.
  8. Thanks for the great report. That's great news.I'm surprised they were that far off of the bottom and still that active! Sounds like I might have to take a short trip north this week. Jack.
  9. Two lures are all you need to troll with for big pike. 1/Lucky Strike- Old Wooden Plug (Canadian Tire special) 2/Depth Raider - Shiner or perch pattern depending on baitfish in your particular lake Troll in 15-25 feet of water off of points and weedbeds at 1.8 to 2.2 mph Jack.
  10. Thanks for sharing those great shots and moments Wayne. I'll be sure to give you the 2 honk salute from Hwy 11 when I pass by your place early on Oct 9'th on my way to Lady Evelyn for the first time. Spending the holiday weekend there with my bud from Liskeard. Jack.
  11. As a former cottage resort owner, I can tell you that the 2 weekends before Thanksgiving are a great time to get a deal on a rental. These weekends tend to be slow for business as most people wait for the long weekend to head north. If you don't ask for a discount, you won't get one.
  12. A good trick to avoid floating vegetation from running down your line and fowling your lure is to add a coloured bead where your main line meets your leader. The floaters get hung up on the bead instead of on your lure. I use this all the time when I'm fishing with a leader, if not using a leader you can position the bead up your line using a slip-bobber stop.
  13. If someone had hit one of those, do you thnk they'd have called it a "LINE DRIVE" ???? Badum-bum. Jack.
  14. I'm with ya on that point MuskyBill. My dad was an avid fisherman who would have loved a trip like this. Unfortunately he suffered a stroke in his early seventies and we could never get away. We should have done it sooner. Note to others with aspirations to do this "SOME DAY"...... GET 'ER DONE!!!
  15. Wow thats an impressive list of lakes. Anybody know how much detail is included. I own the Navionics Canadian Lake Platinum card for my HDS-7 and it has no where near that many Ontario lakes on it. It cost me $230.
  16. Personally I live by the adage that "there is no such thing as a bad beer, some are just better than others"! Stella on tap! Muskoka Dark
  17. Heck, you guys were lucky that the MNR or OPP didn't ticket you for life jackets and safety equipment infractions!!
  18. Roy and DH have them figured out the same way I do. Tie directly onto the wire eye with your main line. I always tie up a number of different bait lines ahead of time using various line strengths, types and lengths with different hooks or harnesses. Also I tie an additional swivel to the end of the bait line that I attach to the snap swivel on the bottom bouncer. This eliminates line twist. Most of the bouncers have pretty low quality snap swivels on them. I wrap these pretied bait lines around a piece of a kid's swimming noodle to keep them organized in the boat. I've also had better luck using coloured bouncers than my buddy using the standard lead grey ones. I vary the length of the bait line to suit finicky fish as well as what Roy said about the distance of your bait off of the bottom. Jack.
  19. BUMP............Bumped this up hoping you'll see my response Irishfield.
  20. Didn't want to take a chance on Opeongo with inadequate info so I'm off to Marten River in 2 hours. Ahhh 3 more days in paradise! Jack.
  21. Thinking of heading to Opeongo tomorrow morning to fish and camp. I've never seen this lake and am wondering wether anyone is familiar with any campsites where I'd be able to beach my Princecraft 17 1/2 footer. Are there any (many) sandy beach campsites? Also from what I've read, the central part of the lake that joins the 3 arms together is shallow. How shallow is shallow? How's the fishing? Thanks, Jack.
  22. Wow Irishfield, thanks for that offer. I might just come a calling someday. I just re-registered here but while I was on the lake there I remembered that an OFC'er had a palce on Temagami and that he had a plane as well. I saw your plane, boat and place and really that's what motivated me to register again. I was somewhat regular on the board while I was living in St. Catharines and also at first when I moved to the Parry Sound area 5 years ago. Sounds like you've had yourself a trying summer. My sincere condolences. Again thanks for your offer. Jack.
