  1. I agree. If I'm putzing around in my boat on hot summer day, then for sure. I'd be way more likely to wear one of those things. They're still better than nothing, no arguing that. When I'm actually seriously concerned about my safety no way would I wear one.
  2. Have never stayed at the camp but have heard good things about it. I am very familiar with the area. Having a smaller boat we always launched at Hartley bay and accessed the Bad/French/Pickeral river delta area via the Bad river. We went this route as at least as far as I'm concerned it's much safer than heading down the Key River and across the open waters of Georgian Bay. (At least in a small boat). It's a fantastic fishery with tophy fish of all species. If you're after larger walleye that time of year we always did well with 2 basic techniques. During the day we'd fish likely spots with a small slip sinker (Lindy), a long light 4lb test tippet, single hook and an air injected crawler. We regularly put a beating on fish up there using this very simple technique. Second technique was trolling large floating rapalas at night in likely areas (neckdowns, current areas). Troll super slow and doctor the eye of the rap by bending it down a bit. This gives the lure a much more erratic side to side wobble that is deadly when trolled slowly. We never really targeted bass up there, pretty much just walleye and musky. Bass are everywhere though and easy to catch. The Bustard islands were known as a top producer.
  3. Blowing them up manually only proves that when you're floundering around in ice water trying to get back in your boat or to shore you'll have a functioning pfd if you take the time to blow it up.
  4. My question to all you guys who're buying these things: How do you know 100% for certain they'll actually inflate if and when you really need them to? Fact is you don't. That's the primary reason why, although they're more comfortable to wear, I never used them on my canoe treks in the far north, opting always for a more conventional non inflatable pfd.
  5. Actually...One eyed jackfish and the man with the fillet knife (Cronzy) are wild.
  6. Agreed. Did you see the look on his face when the camera panned to him more than once on the sidelines? Every time, he was sitting there by himself with this weird grinch-like smirk on his face. Was nice to see the smirk gone at the end of the game.
  7. Of course I remember filling the water bottle in the middle of the lake. For me. (Having a giant sherpa along to lug your beer is great!)
  8. Hopefully there'll be several giant esox lucious for 2010 eh buddy? Nice fishies.
  9. What? I don't remember you drinking lake water. (As far as packing tips go, apparantly 2 Heineken mini kegs are essential. )
  10. I'll bet Spiel could tie some wicked zonker jigs.
  11. I've been thinking about Gainey ever since news broke about Burkes young son passing away. Not sure if his daughters passing has anything to do with his recent decision but wouldn't be surprised if it played a part. My heart goes out to both of those men. I'm not sure how I'd handle it myself. Terrible situation.
  12. Back in my single days I caught a bug so nasty it hadn't been seen since the conquest of Peru. Was on penicillin for weeks.
  13. I couldn't believe he didn't call a time out either.
  14. That was brutal, gonna take me a while to cool down.
  15. I've never heard of blue perch either, pretty cool. Here's a couple close up shots of the fins on the walleye Bill and I caught last summer, plus a shot of a fish to show their overall colour.
  16. "YES IT'S LIFESTYLES OF THE POOR AND ANONYMOUS! HERE WE ARE IN THE DISGUSTING NORTHERN ABODE OF THE INFAMOUS DRIFTER_016!! MUST BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO COME IN CONTACT WITH ANY SURFACES!! WHY AM I YELLING? I HAVE NO IDEA!"
  17. Not unless they're solid titanium. They're a couple bucks each.
  18. Yeah they're useless aren't they? I did call them yeah...
  19. Anyone have a source for these jig heads on our side of the border? Been looking and can't find them anywhere. Thanks guys.
