  1. That's remarkable, just when you think you've heard everything! I wonder if maybe some thin pencil lead shoved down the minnows throat would hinder the action? You've got me thinking now bud!
  2. Great stuff Jay! Interesting though...just a hook, dead minnow and no weight of any kind? How deep was the water you were fishing?
  3. 9km in? That is truely impressive. Great bunch of fish and an even better report!
  4. Great report! For minnows I use a small hard shell lunch sized cooler with a flip top lid. On the underside of the lid I've screwed/epoxied a battery powered aerator that's turned on/off as needed.
  5. Trilene XT and XL are no brainers for me as well. Have to admit though I've been running 11.9lb Tectan on my dead stick rods the last couple years. Love it, stays amazingly limp even in super cold weather. Contrary to most I've also been using 10lb Power Pro on my jigging rods. Spray some of this stuff on your reel the night before, let it soak in and dry, and you're good to go. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...__SearchResults (I used to use "Reel Magic" but was recently turned on to this product and used it steelheading the last time out. It really works. It's not marketed as a de-icer but it makes your line hydrophobic. Spray it on your guides as well to reduce ice up).
  6. Glad to see you got into them Emil!
  7. Thanks for taking the time to post, excellent report!
  8. Great stuff Doug! What'd you catch it on?
  9. There's free parking at all of the interior access points. You must have an interior camping permit though, one copy of which goes on your windshield. If you don't have the permit on your windshield you'll get ticketed.
  10. Nice fish Scott. You're right it's looking good for next week.
  11. That's exactly what I was thinking Chris, I've only ever accessed it by canoeing up the creek. Hope you're recouping well, I've got a bunch of rod work sitting here on the shelf waiting for you.
  12. Yes it used to be stocked years ago. Back in the day it was a fantastic fishery. I last fished it maybe 4 springs ago from a canoe and caught nothing, it seemed barren of life. I suspect you may have a tough go there although it is very pretty. As far as the springs go I wouldn't have a clue. You'd best be careful though it's definitely spring fed.
  13. Me too. I know someone on the board who does have the time and talent though. Let's steal the design, patent it and have Wayne build 'em in his shop.
  14. This is pretty amazing. You need to scroll down through all the pages of the post to see all the pictures of the build. He is using a product called R Board for his walls (it's an insulation). At his work he has a bad assed printer and has printed the inside to look like pine paneling and the outside has murals of ice fishing scenes. http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index...?topic=118125.0
  15. Read more Gierach, he has written more than one book you know. One of my favourites, I envy you having just discovered him now.
  16. Thanks for the update, glad to hear your dad is fighting.
  17. She's beautiful, congrat's to you and your wife!
  18. Just a dusting here in Grimsby. My sources say maybe 5cm overnight.
  19. Nothing in Grimsby yet, hopefully the squalls don't materialize.
  20. Here's an idea. Shoot over to CT and grab the auger, then swing by Loblaws for some of that lobster (they're on sale dontcha know). Once you're done picking up the auger and seafood you'll be on a hot streak so head over to the corner store and grab a lottery ticket, 'cause you will win. Careful on the way over though, you'll be dodging lightning bolts.
  21. Dave built that himself. If you ask him nice he might just hook you up.
  22. I fished on the 31st with Dave (Drifter_016) once again. Man did we put a lot of miles on the truck in search of fishable water! We burned an entire tank of gas, got lost, made 2 border crossings and ultimately ended up at a spot 30 mins from my house in the early afternoon. From our vantage point high above the river it looked prime: slightly off coloured, up a bit and no slush. We quickly geared up and hustled our way down to the river. Without having a lot of time to fish we were both pretty pleased to each put one fish on the bank. The small chromer I managed to subdue actually took me for a walk downstream and was surprisingly powerful. The Battle And The Prize Dave's Slab-O-Chrome Great way to cap the 09 season!
