  1. Wow, that's impressive customer service Lew!
  2. John I spent many summers paddling the lakes and rivers in that region and did see them on occasion. I may have seen them more often but they usually occur in the middle of the night. Type of scenario where you get up to take a leak and are amazed. If you have really nice clear, calm nights force yourself to get up after midnight for a peak and you might get lucky.
  3. Yep he sure does look like his mother! Thanks for sharing.
  4. IMO you have to go a bit further than Port Loring for really exceptional fly in walleye fishing. Air Ivanhoe in Folyet is great. I've used them several times with great success: http://airivanhoe.com/ I've also flown with Hawk Air and Park's both located in Hawk Junction. Always had amazing trips: http://www.hawkair.com/ http://www.outpostcamps.com/ Also a viable option who I've had success with is Cochrane Air in Cochrane: http://www.aircochrane.com/ I prefer the first 3 outfitters over Cochrane though for a variety of reasons. I can gladly help you pinpoint specific lakes if you happen to choose one of these ouitfitters. Cheers
  5. Yep, it's most likely the annual mayfly hatch (about 3 weeks early this year) and whitefish feeding. It's one of the highlights of the year for me on my lake in QC. Pretty much the only time of year when you can catch whitefish on dry flies. Years ago when I first attempted to catch them I missed half a dozen wicked hits. Big splashy boils where my fly dissapeared. I'd set the hook and...nothing. It took a while to figure out, but the whitfish were either slapping at my fly with their tails or pushing it with their snout to submerge the fly. Once the fly was submerged they'd suck it in with their underslung mouth. So after missing the first 6 and clueing in I began to catch them. You'd have to force yourself to wait 3-4 seconds after the initial rise (not easy to do) then gently lift up on the rod. Caught a bunch that way. On my lake the mayfly hatch usually occurs last week of June/first week of July but apparantly it's starting right now as well.
  6. I imagine being a police officer can be both exasperating and rewarding. I'm guessing this was one of those unexpected rewarding moments.
  7. You've got it all wrong Wayne. Dave's a lot more likely to get pulled over himself. (Picture perfect weather bud, enjoy it!)
  8. Looks like a perfect little close to home get away.
  9. Green with envy my friend, you're living in paradise. I'd gladly give up steelhead to reside up there.
  10. Nice. Excellent choice on the rod.
  11. I've got the 2hp Honda with the clutch, it's amazing. About 27lb's and runs all day on a cup or 2 of gas. Still, if weight was an issue I'd try and find an older 2 stroke. The mid 80's-early 90's Yamahas are fantastic motors.
  12. Very decent fish for your first walleye, congrat's! (LOL @ johnnyb lipping a bowfin )
  13. Actually it was a 40hp you got for me, not a 30, and yeah it was a sweet deal. Buddy that is an amazing deal on the inflatable. If you don't want it I do!
  14. Beautiful pike dude, and good call on the swimbaits. I've got a box full ready to take north with me in a couple of weeks.
  15. Doubt it would make it worse, plus it's an easy fix if does work. Beyond dumping a can in the gas and running it through the motor, you can pop off the plugs and pour some into the cylinder heads to soak overnight.
  16. I rented a boat from George a few years back. He's definitely a bit crusty LOL! From what I can remember the cottages looked a little old and run down. Great location though.
  17. Sounds like a lot. A can of Seafoam would've cleaned up the carb...
  18. Well that's good to hear. I'm going to miss his fly in trip reports though.
  19. Whatever happened to Smokey? He dropped off the radar a while back..
  20. Nice goin'! Definitely 2 quality fish. What depth?
  21. Find the easiest route on google earth, use a GPS or compass and blaze your own way in.
  22. 3-4" lively chub minnow drifted under a float.
