  1. Yeah the main message should be... Great job on fishing a new lake and doing very well guys! Brian - the reason why this is important and being debated is that if it is indeed a tiger, this means there are now pike in Pigeon - which is not a good thing long term for what is currently a great muskie fishery there. Honestly, it does look like a tiger from the patterning - and from the large, rounded dorsal and anal fins which are larger on tigers than on muskies - but again without seeing the tail and having a count of the pores on the underside of the jaw there can be no clear identificaton.
  2. This is 100% not true about Pigeon fish being all clear. I will add some pics of barred and even spotted Pigeon fish, I would say that my ratio is 50/50 between clear and others caught from Pigeon. I have caught plenty of hybrids and know the difference between the two. That being said, the one that Tupelo posted certainly does look like a tiger from that particular shot - but need to see a better shot of the tail and have a pore count to be sure.
  3. Great season Scott! Some very nice bass and walleye there, and that pike of your dad's is a beauty. The day we fished muskies together was a blast - glad you got a couple in the boat and a really nice one to boot! Unhooking your big girl was certainly a process, those hooks were buried in her throat as badly as any I have seen. I really think letting her revive for as long as I did after each cut hook was the key to her swimming away... I'm glad you got to see firsthand just why the proper release tools (long pliers, spreaders, Knipex and big net) are so critical for safe muskie fishing. Keep doing up on Gbay what you did on our outing and you will get rewarded with a true giant sooner or later! Cheers Pete
  4. Such pretty fish... 40" specimen caught last Sunday. And here's a nice clean open water trolling fish caught the weekend before. One of the hardest hits I have ever had... I cleared weeds off my crankbait... let it back out, gave the rod a tug and WHAM it literally almost hit me in the face! As witnessed by Gallie!
  5. Last time out with Mike I caught my personal best 53.5", so I was more than happy to take him up on his latest offer to once again hunt the mighty pig-skis of the St. Lawrence! East beast wind was big. Waves were even bigger. But as Mike said... "Big weather = big fish". The day did not disappoint. I lost a good one at the very first casting spot of the day. Trolling soon led to Mike hooking into a giant 48", and I closed out the day with my best fish of the year, a seriously obese 46.5". The fall feedbag has certainly begun! Thanks again Mike for a really great day on the water. Cheers Pete
  6. There are no fish in that river. Especially in east winds.
  7. X 2 on Shimano Tekota. I have 500's and 600's for muskie and salmon trolling and they are bulletproof. Don't see why the 300 size wouldn't be just as good. Pretty close to the $200 mark when on sale.
  8. I've been looking to make/buy a set of these myself Mike - let me know how it works out
  9. 16' Legend ProSport tiller (ha) with 30hp Honda 27.5mph solo, 24-25 with one or two two passengers
  10. Beautiful fish Gallie! Huge head on that one. Well done!
  11. I run the 9'6" MH Taloras for dipseys when Lake Ontario salmon fishing. Love them. Run my dipseys on #2 setting the most often, gets them away from the boat and rigger lines and widens the spread of lures.
  12. Wow awesome! Love the big pike pics. Some really nice bass in there too.
  13. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll try Shortwave first. Simon - probably could do that but hoping to get the proper cap. All summer I kept saying to myself "Put a wrap of electrical tape on there..." Procastination goes sploosh.
  14. Lost one on my most recent outing. I have checked at JB's, LeBaron, Gagnons and SAIL with no luck. Anyone know of somewhere else in the GTA who has replacements? Gagnons usually has them but are out of stock. Thanks Pete
  15. It's the fish of 10,000 casts...You still have 9,422 to go Raf's advice is bang on.
  16. Hope it gets worked out soon Mike! Nothing worse than being boatless...
  17. Mike one of the five star lodges up at LOTW (Wiley Point) runs an entire fleet of these - they have smaller ones with 50hp tillers and bigger ones with 115's if I remember right. They were sick and tired of aluminum boats getting trashed on the rocks up there. None of the boats had trolling motors on them - not sure if this is because of hull design or just another lodge decision. Andrew and I were baffled as to how you can effectively fish LOTW without a trolling motor - but then this is a 5 star lodge and almost every guest was going out with a guide on the tiller. They looked like they rode nice, and cut thru the waves better than an aluminum with their weight. Easy to clean also.
  18. Once in a while I like to take a break from chasing big toothy critters, and enjoy the simple art of skipping a plastic worm under docks for largemouth. At my cottage, it's not even a question if you are going to catch bass - the only question is how many and how big. My little guy Tyler loves bass fishing also - and can cast that Spiderman rod better than most! Last two trips out he managed to catch a few really nice ones, and I did too It was THIS big. HEY you said they have no teeth! Wow dad, nice one! Pair of beauties caught yesterday on my first and second casts of the day!
  19. Wow that's a beauty Blair, love the dark green ones. Nice thick fish too.
  20. It was a real pleasure having you in the boat Dave! You picked it up very quickly and did very well slugging it out all day with the twin tens. The fish were indeed very active with the overcast conditions. Two of us fished the same lake the next day under bluebird skies and didn't land a fish (5 follows). That first lure I started you with was actually a twin 8 cowgirl, for some reason it just didn't run right. Looking forward to seeing you land a big one! Cheers Pete
  21. Some real beauties there! Nice heavy fish.
  22. Yes the giant Lakewoods box serves me well! Thanks again for a great deal. As Andrew mentioned, of the various lodges that we have stayed at, Witch Bay was by far the best overall experience. Anyone interested in more info on our experiences at any of the lodges please feel free to PM either of us. Here's a couple more pics that I just got back, two of my favourite shots from the trip actually! Andrew with a 42.5" and me with a 43". You can really see the shoulders on the fish up there in these two images.
  23. Haha yes Will I do - it was a last minute trip. My buddy texted me from the lake to get my butt down there - it was a sheet of glass. I'll keep you on speed dial for the next trip!
