  1. And a Merry Christmas to you and yours Lew! And to everyone here on OFC as well! Cheers Pete
  2. Haha my favourite xmas movie... The family and I are going to watch it tonight!
  3. Yup, that's the price I remember - I should have sold then! Oh well. I had 7 Brett Hull rookies at one point - sold 5 of them for $500 in the early 90's. Was big money for a 17 year old! I collected them all from packs too!
  4. Cool thanks, remember at one time it was worth quite a bit more than that
  5. Hey what's that Griffey Jr. Upper deck rookie card worth just out of curiosity? I actually have it. Thanks Pete
  6. It all depends on a number of factors How often you fish What you are casting How big the fish are and do they make long hard runs More expensive reels are built with higher quality components - which are often replaceable/repairable when needed Better balance, ergonomics, nicer handles etc. Better materials used in the gears, gears supported by bearings - makes reeling in hard pulling lures easier - you don't get tired as fast and won't wear out the gears as fast Better materials used in drag system - smoother, higher drag force and last longer Muskie fishing is ridiculously hard on gear, even $500 reels need tune ups every few years. For many other species which are less demanding on gear, I'm sure reels like the Sahara are fine - bottom line is that if it does what you need it to and you are happy with the way it performs - golden
  7. Some people will never change... stupid is stupid. I have personally seen an improvement on the water in the past 10 years in terms of idiotic behaviour. When jet skis first came out it was just ridiculous out there. You will never get rid off all the bad ones. Improving their equipment by mandating snows - which are superior equipment below 7C - makes a change, and improves the saftey of driving in winter conditions. Not to mention reducing gridlock and all the frustrations and economic impact caused by it.
  8. My 2WD Ford Escape is totally useless in the winter with all seasons on, even a brand new set and yes, I do know how to drive. There is simply no comparison between all seasons and winter tires. On winters, the tire compound remains pliable at temperatures below 7C and has more traction with the road. The lugs are also designed to clear slush and snow. If you haven't tried them, you really don't know just how much of a difference they make. I used to drive an Acura Integra with a set of Michelin X-Ice snows on it, and that vehicle was absolutely incredible in the winter. I remember coming home from ice fishing in a severe blizzard once and passing hundreds of SUV's and trucks and other vehicles on the 400 because they were sliding all over the place or were already stuck. It is my opinion that you won't change the majority of people's poor driving habits, but through law you can force their hand to change their equipment for the greater good of all. This will reduce the amount of accidents and injuries as well as reducing gridlock issues by vehicles getting stuck or not being to drive up even small hills. The data from Quebec certainly supports this. I would also be fine with the German system of no snows no insurance coverage during the winter season. It seems like a big initial expense, but really it is not when you factor in the wear and tear savings to your all seasons/summer tires. I get that people don't like being told that they have to spend money - but when public safety is the main issue than it really should be a no brainer. And many people simply don't know just how good snows even are so they would fight against it uninformed. Maybe the government could give a significant tax write-off for the first five years that the law is passed to soften the initial blow.
  9. Not sure if it's too far for you but I have bought all my appliances from here - service is golden Paddy's Market Appliance Store 2212 Taunton Road, Hampton, ON L0B 1J0 (905) 263-8369 Open today · 9:00 am 6:00 pm
  10. My commute is usually 45 minutes, yesterday morning it took 4.5hrs. 3hrs to get home in the afternoon. Grrrrrrr. Got up and left extra early this morning just in case, got to work in even less time than normal... Now I'm sitting here waiting LOL The good news - gas in Whitby at Petro Canada stations is 93.9!!!
  11. Thanks guys. Lew I agree - great service from them. My reels have come back mint every time and they have gone above the call of duty a few times.
  12. I have a couple reels to drop off for servicing - will be in Peterborough on Wed evening anyways for the MCI meeting/xmas dinner... Anyone know what time they are open till? I tried calling and kept getting bounced around between menus until I wanted to throw my phone across the room lol... I seem to remember 4:30 or 5pm. Thanks Pete
  13. A few excellent points raised here... First - I will never meet someone at my house. You just never know if someone will case you out doing so. I usually use the closest Timmies as a meeting place. I also have found that if you are willing to meet people at a place that is more convenient to them they are more likely to pay full asking price and you will have far less no-shows - eg I live in Whitby but work in the west end of Toronto - I just set up a meeting place on the way home after work and bingo. Pricing your items fairly is another good piece of advice - and try to be patient. Sometimes it just takes a bit for the right buyer to come along for your item. Do a bit of research and look up what your item is worth compared to similar items for sale. It's a great tool - keeps the clutter at home down and puts a few bucks in the pocket (to spend on more fishing gear LOL) as are the classifieds here - you just have to take a few common sense precautions.
  14. For the past 10 years it has been all about getting a 50" muskie, and finally managed to do it this year with a LOTW 51"... And then a few weeks later a 53.5" from the St. Lawrence. Now the challenge has changed... I want to get a 50" from the Kawarthas where I started, and then focus on St. Clair. I also managed a PB tiger this year at 44", if I ever get a 50"+ tiger that will be a replica for sure. Incredible looking fish. Other species that I would like to catch are gar pike, ling, tarpon, brook trout and pretty much anything salt water if I ever get the chance. A laker over 20 would be nice, as well as a 10+ walleye.
  15. Spooled by a carp off the dock on Rice Lake when I was a kid... Came close with a Lake O salmon in June, running a dipsy 240' back, fish hit and ran out to nearly 800'!!! Didn't think it was ever going to stop. Luckily nearly the whole reel was spooled with braid so I had well over 1000' on there. Long fight later, my biggest king to date at just under 30lbs. Also on Rice, similar to Jeremy's dad - hooked into a huge smallie that broke me off, it jumped continuously near the boat for at least 15-20 minutes with my rattlin rap hanging out of the corner of his mouth! Brrrrt! Brrrrrt!
  16. Awesome report! Brookies are so beautiful. Mind if I ask what software you used to make the framed pictures? They look amazing! Pete
  17. I picked up a couple of the Fenwick Elitetech Ice rods last year, just over $30 each. If I recall they are medium heavy action - worked great for Simcoe lakers
  18. I've had three great experiences with them as well, two broken rods and a reel - all exchanged fast with zero hassle. Even let me keep the spool from the broken reel so now I have a spare!
  19. I know what that f......... means Terry. Fish some more.
  20. Mike, I used to have the same issue while ice fishing - used to use Fireline crystal and it would get shredded. The only thing that helped even slightly was having bigger eyelets. Mono/floro was better in terms of not getting damaged by the ice, but still got frozen up in the eyelet sometimes.
  21. It ain't over till the fat musky bites Lol Or something like that
  22. Joey I was having the same issues with my Rogers boxes as well as my modem and wifi. After multiple exchanges, leading to even more frustration, I gave up and switched to Bell FIBE. So happy that I did! It's awesome, all boxes are wireless, all are HD, all can record and play back from the PVR that was included. My WIFI is blazing fast, and works everywhere in the house. And as a kicker, $25/month less than I was paying Rogers! Even the remotes are better lol.
  23. You down for a muskie hunt Mike? Send me a PM and we can figure out the details! Would have to be on a weekend though.
