For the course call your local power boat squadron or call The Coast Guard Station Whatever radio you buy, you would be wise to have a DSC radio and register the MMSI number(Maritime Mobile Service Identity) http://www.ccg-gcc.g...g/CCG/MCTS_Mmsi Like lew said you need to do a course. The radio I use and it stays attached to me at all times on the water is a Standard Horizon HX850S it floats is water proof has excellent range a GPS and DSC. I also have a Standard Horizon fixed unit in the boat that i have tied to the chartplotter with the same capabilities (this is good assuming I dont fall out of the boat or lose power)hand held backup I fish alone quite a bit MMSI and DSC in a nut shell if you hit the panic button the GPS will lock your position and send an emergency alert this will be packaged with your Lat and Long and MMSI# which has some very specific information about you your boat emergency contacts and and most important your position.YOU ARE A VERY SMALL SPEC ON A LARGE BODY OF WATER worse when its rough an exact point in the water is very usful to others if needed. Is this a smart choice I truly believe it is the service is in place its free and TIME COUNTS Sorry I posted this before it was long I can't edit it but you get the idea Peter Good luck

Well it is over my first stand up in front of everyone my legs were shaking so i jabbed myself in the rear with a push pin and got on with the grunt next one was better and the last one was great. Now I can pass my bad habits on to those that wish to know. I learned a lot it was a good crew and the whole thing was very enjoyable. Onward and Upward Peter

I hope they make it so you have to sit in a classroom for theory and on the water for practicle. Cash grab maybe worth while i think so. Have you ever seen somebody with a $200,000 dollar boat that hasnt got a clue its very scary. Peter -

I just found out yesterday that I have been 1 of 10 chosen by the CGA and CCGA out of the Central Arctic Region to be trained as a Search and Rescue Instructor for the CCGA. This is way outside my comfort zone and Im really nervous but excited at the same time . I just recieved the course material yesterday and as I read through it I thought I was going to pass out. Small groups and one on one training I have been told I do very well at now I will be standing at the front of the class doing training which is really freaking me out. So I have tightened my boots pulled up my pants and Im ready to rock. I am very hounred for being selected for this and will give my best to make it the right choice. Peter

A buddy sent this to me this morning Coyote Control The Ministry of Natural Resources were presenting an alternative to the Grey-Bruce farmers for controlling the coyote population. It seems that after years of the farmers using the tried and true method of shooting or trapping the predators, the MNR had a "more humane" solution to this issue. What they were proposing was for the animals to be captured alive. The males would then be castrated and let loose again. This was ACTUALLY proposed by the Ministry of Natural Resources. All of the ranchers thought about this amazing idea for a couple of minutes. Finally an old fellow in the back of the conference room stood up, tipped his hat back and said: "Son, I don't think you understand our problem. These coyotes ain't screwin' our sheep ..... they're eatin' 'em!" Cheers Peter The meeting never really got back to order.....

I have to ditto DRIFTER_016 on this. I would correct it at the helm. There should be a screw or bolt on the neck of the motor but it is only a temp measure till it wears into that spot and it does not take long I would go with the reactive steering. better deal then a rod and reel any day of the week Peter

Just a thought if you get the serial number and model of the motor you can get a full carb rebuild kit at any shop for about $20 i just did my old craftsman (techumsec snow commander 1979) takes about an hour well worth the money the old brass floats sometimes admit a little fuel in the float the brazing cracks whatever and it throws the bouyancy off the new version is thermal plastic i would rather brass but what you gonna do anyway it runs like a champ Just a thought Peter
