That reminded me a Seinfeld Episode: The ocean callede...they're all out of shrimp Yeah well the jerkstore called...they're all out of you That's suprising because I hear you're the all time best seller Yeah....well...I has sex with your wife I'll let you decide where you fit in to that discussion. (It has something to do with being funny and not being funny)

A friend and I are headed up to Lake Superior Provincial Park for a week at the beginning of July for our second annual camping trip. Last year we went up to Halfway Lake Provincial Park in August. We only caught a few bass and one pike. However the bass were fairly large, including this beauty. Notice how excited my buddy was: This year we have decided to head even further afield to Lake Superior Provincial Park. Part of the appeal is to see the landscape that inspired the group of seven. We will be hiking the trails and walking the shoreline. In many ways I think that this park represents the image of Canada that is projected to the world: the vast wind swept landscape with exposed rock and gnarled trees. The pristine inland lakes and forests that seem endless. It's funny that as a younger man I would not hesitate to fly 24 hours to Africa, but a ten hour drive seemed endless torture. As I get older I feel a greater need to explore this great country of ours. Of course another appeal of the trip for me is the fishing opportunities. I am hoping to cast the mouths of the rivers with the potential to get some coasters. I would also like to hit up some inland lakes and streams for some brookies and maybe some lakers. If anyone can let me know: 1. What part of the park that I would have the best luck in 2. What I could expect to catch 3. What I should use in terms of lures Thanks for reading and any advice that you could give. PS if anyone has any fly fishing tips I might be tempted to bring out my fly rod. Greg

NIcely done. I was supposed to go out on Sunday with a buddy, but we spent a bit too much time catching up over a few drinks Saturday and never made it out.

I have a rapala r-type 6'8" MH exra fast rod that I like a lot. I think you can only buy these rods in Canada. I would consider the Compre as I think they have a 20$ mail in rebate right now and come with a lifetime warranty. I would go with the AVS70MF2 for a spinning rod, the medium action will make it a better all round rod. You could also consider the AVS66LF2 as it is lighter, but is not restricting you ultra light presentations.

I have spent the last few months figuring out what rod to pair up with a Pflueger Patriarch. I've had trouble finding a two piece rod that is light enough to match up with the reel. The compre spinning rod has a split grip and an exposed grip, something that I like. The St. Coix avid makes a few 7ft two piece rods, but I haven't been able to fins one in a store. I imaging BPS may have them. I would advise against a Temple Fork rod as the blank is rather heavy and would not match up well with a CI4 IMO. Fenwick also makes a seven foot two piece rod, I think it's the tout series.

I prefer a really stiff rod for jerk and crank baits so the vendetta might work. Depending on your preference you may find this rod too stiff. From what I have read a lot of people seem to prefer a softer rod for the techniques you mentioned.

Very similar, but different host and he always hooks into a world record....or almost always it seems. I was off today and watched the marathon from 1 till 4 today and enjoyed it.
-
what species are you targeting? These rods run about 80 bucks. If you can get 20 bucks off, as shimano seems to be offering as a trade in rebate why not try a compre?
-
There was a post about these rods recently. I was at gagnon's the other day and picked one up and it felt nice and light. I own one as well, and find it a bit stiff

Thanks for sharing. I am hoping that the ice will hold up for the weekend so I can get a shot at my first laker through the ice this weekend.
-
I am shocked at how poor their selection is. I have no idea why they do not carry st. croix rods. I was at gagnon's the other day and the rod selections was much better.

Karma... it is a three way street correct?

Having lost a good friend to cancer I wish your daughter and your family all the best. It seems like she has the right attitude to beat it. Keep her positive and pray for the best. -
Quick question for the Pflueger spinning reel guys
Gregoire replied to Bondar's topic in General Discussion
I bought a 9525 patriarch not too long ago thinking I would use it for ice fishing, and haven't been out yet. If the ice on Simcoe holds up for the weekend I should get to break her in. I'm planning on using the spare spool with mono line for ice fishing and the carbon spool with a light braid for finesse fishing. -
I'm confuse by your use of such a complicated word. By incongruous I think you mean that our reaction is inappropriate, in that case who are you to judge? Or as you saying that I am acting against my principle? In that case I hope you can help me find them. In all seriousness I think that Grimace has a point, but his comments came off in a way that he did not intend them. As fishing junkies we all realize that pros get paid to endorse product, at least Dave had the class to back up his praise. On a popular forum like this, at this time of year people can be overly sensitive, as Mercman pointed out. I need to go fishing.
-
Your argument was similar but the context was quite different. Your post on this topic could be seen as a direct reply to the endorsement that some pro's were giving. I would take offense to your comments if I were a pro. I also do not think that it is necessary to state the obvious, as you seem to enjoy doing.
-
Hey Grimace, Thanks for pointing out the obvious, Just like the sky is blue, professional fisherman, especially the very successful ones with TV shows, have sponsors. If given the opportunity to endorse a product that supports them, they should. Dave is also sponsored by many other fishing companies, yet I do not see him plastering the board advocating them. He made some specific comments about why he likes the live target lures. If he had said something like "They are the best lures that I have ever used, everyone should go out and buy a ton" that would have been different.

I have a 6'6" two piece medium casting rod. It is really light but I find it a bit stiff. I've only used it a few times. These are nice rods for the money. If I had to do it over again I would have gotten a compre or a rapala r-type.

Who going to the fishing for Tyler on saturday

I'm hoping to free up the time, and maybe put a fish on the board for team 9. -
That is cool. I'd like to see a store open East of Toronto, but wonder what effect that would have on Gagnon's.

I think the Abu Garcia revo winch would be a good reel to look at. I have one that I pair with a 7ft compre when casting for Musky, It can handle everything but cowgirls and heavy topwaters. I also use it with a MH rapala r-type rod for pike fishing and I like it. You can get a winch on ebay for about 150, just watch out for the shipping costs. You could look into pairing the winch with a vendetta rod. I have one and like it for the price. There are a lot of options for a MH and H rod.

I own quite a few abu reels and have found the customer service to be very good. Have you tried calling pure fishing? I think I gave you this contact info before but I have included the phone number this time. I hope this helps: Jordan Schwantz Customer Service Representative Pure Fishing Canada 131 Savannah Oaks Drive, Unit # 1 Brantford, ON N3V 1E8 (519) 750 - 0100 ext 1011 Fax 750 - 0492 [email protected]

More Fun Fishing Boats From the Miami Boat Show
Gregoire replied to craigdritchie's topic in General Discussion
Thanks Craig, I'm a few years and a few dollars away from the boat of my dreams but I always imagined it as a center console. Something that would handle lake O under calm conditions and any other lake I wanted...good to know that it exists, now all I have to do is stop spending money on booze and women....this might take a while. -
More Fun Fishing Boats From the Miami Boat Show

Thanks for posting. With the move towards center consoles was there any offered in smaller boats? I am thinking a 16 of 17 footer. -
I think it's funny because Mercer is responding to a question and being entertaining and then this serious pro bass angler comes on and bashes him. Get over yourself.
