Thanks. The Brown was around 20 inches. Didn't weigh him, though I'm estimating he's between 4-5 lbs.

I was pretty stoked. Just the one day surpassed all of the trout of caught in my life so far!! Only been fishing a year. The larger Chromer weighed in at 7lbs and put on the most fight I've ever experienced! Keep saying to myself of the 6# flouro & #8 hook, "Please don't break...please don't break!" I kept the line tight and was getting a little nervous when he'd be at the surface then decide to start pulling drag and heading straight down under the boat!! It was sweet victory getting the net under it!! I'm "definitely" Hooked!

Wow. Spent some time yesterday bottom bouncing for the 1st time and what a day it was! Landed my 1st Steelie!...and 2nd...and 3rd...as well as a nice Brown to round out the action. Here's some of the stuff! [attachme nt=11890:Boatside.jpg]

I know. I may not smoke, but that car washing sure is a filthy habit the 4-5 times a year it happens! It's not like I'm one of those every weekend diehards!

Pick any city along a body of water. Guess where the road runoff goes? Storm sewers are directly dumped into most bodies of water without any treatment. So all those butts on the road or side walk eventually get washed down to the lakes. You shouldn't have be standing with a pole in your hand (fishing or other) on the shore or in a boat to be conscious of where the butts end up! It's why Trout Unlimited has had campaigns of painting yellow fish on the road in front storm sewers in various communities. That little Yellow painted Trout actually makes me think every time I wash my car for instance. Instead of just dumping the wash bucket on the driveway to end up in the sewer, it gets dumped at least in an area of the lawn where the ground/soil can act as a filter for the phosphorus and other contaminants, instead of a direct path to the lake. It may seem like a trivial effort to some, but at least it is an effort.

Keep in mind when someone is booking a charter, they are booking with the charter "operator" not the boat. The fact that the boat was "Fishmaster's" will be irrelevant. It doesn't matter where the boat has been in the past, it's where the operator can put it when new clients are on it. So , it ALL weighs on you as the operator to make potential clients feel comfortable with YOUR experience and ability to put them on fish. Now, if someone "sees" the boat and thinks hey, that looks like a successful operation (based on the appearance of the boat), then you might get a call. The key would then be to convert the boats' "image" into your perceived experience. If you need some training with the items on the boat, why not make a deal with the seller of the boat to spend a day with you on it being shown all of it's capabilities and how to do the things you wanted to be taught. The seller should be willing to spend some time with you and the boat if a sale is expected. Maybe you just offer to pay for his time to charter it and then have him deduct that amount from the purchase price if you do end up buying it. Good luck.

The only 2 Brown Trout I've caught in the last year were both a month apart on the same Mepps #3 Silver blade with Orange egg type body.

Rick who?

Biting my tongue... Ok, can't resist... ...and if a female dog could make a fist?
-
Yes, as mentioned above, it definitely sounds like tape worm. Probably nothing shorter then a 24" specimen with those symptoms!

Wow! What are the chances of catching 2 animals in the SAME position! I'm sure you've heard why it is dogs lick themselves? Because they can!

Some interesting accident investigation information: There are some given numerical values that are accepted as fact. Perception & reaction times. Perception time = 0.75 seconds. Reaction time = 0.75 seconds. Total time of 1.50 seconds. This is the time it takes for your brain to "perceive" something (such as a car pulling out in front of you) and "react" by applying foot on brake pedal. Say you're traveling 60km/hr (60,000 meters/3,600 seconds). In 1.50 seconds you would travel 25 meters or approx. 82 feet. So, to keep from getting hit when pulling out into 60km/hr traffic, someone has to be at least 82 feet back PLUS the time it takes the car to decelerate. And that's for someone paying attention. Throw in there someone who's distracted while eating a sandwich behind the wheel or reading a text message and they all of a sudden can't perceive, react, stop, in time. 1½ seconds sure doesn't sound like much, but think of that kid who steps out onto the street in a school zone. There's a reason the limit is slower in school zones. You can't change the perception & reaction times, however you can change the stopping time by not traveling as fast. Not preaching, just some food for thought...for everyone.

New Ice-fishing tactics.....find fish easier....
I'mHooked replied to Muskieman's topic in General Discussion
I've dealt with a guy in California several times a week for 8 years and he's totally clueless about anything 'Canada' He's one of those typical "Talking to Americans" you used to see with Rick Mercer. I'm going to forward him that video. He'll believe me if I tell him we only stay out of the water once the ice reaches 4 foot thickness on Yonge St. in Toronto. Great clip! -
I've got no problem with 120 (in a 100 ). But to play the other side, What would that driver who is doing the LIMIT consider all those other drivers zipping past them ? A hazard maybe? If 15 cars doing 120 see 1 car at 100 as a hazard, then that same car at 100 probably sees 15 hazards around him. Just because the majority are doing something they are not supposed to, doesn't mean the person following the rules should be made to feel uncomfortable doing it!

I picked up a Craftsman 13.5 ft/lb 27" path blower with power steering last November. It was $1550 reg on for $1050, seemed like a pretty good deal. It's definitely one of the better investments I've made. I didn't need to use the electric start at all. 1 pull only and it fired up every time all winter. Did a great job of clearing. With the power steering, it literally turns on a dime without having to horse it around. We still have to see how it holds up in another 10 years though!

No option for "got caught speeding, pay the fine, great learning experience!"

I assume smoking it also increases it's shelf life? How long before it would need to be put in the freezer? Thanks for the feedback.
-
Makes some sense. Smoking gives it some extra flavour to cover substandard taste? That's exactly what I'm looking for. What influences peoples personal preferences? Let's assume we're talking about fish that won't survive release, as it's illegal to waste the flesh.
-
So what are the factors that influence people whether to smoke a fish or not? I've tried smoked west coast salmon that someone gave as a gift and it was fantastic. What I've noticed seems to be when someone has caught a somewhat larger salmon or trout they seem to announce that they will just smoke it. Is there a preference to smoking over freezing for later consumption? Is there something about smoking compared to other forms of cooking that has an impact on potential high levels of the bad stuff in the flesh? Please share your insight! Thanks.

Picture #1, aha, must be Toronto! Picture #2, hmmm, not quite sure...South shore of Erie?

That's pretty cool!
