  1. My 2 year old son goes to a daycare which is currently having a small outbreak of the flu. So they are being very cautious (as they always are) and keeping certain kids home with mild/low fevers. My son eventually hit 101.1 yesterday at 4pm, so i got the call. He has never been ice fishing before. We slept in, and I made sure he was in good shape. No fever. So, of we went to the hut for a few hours! It was a windy walk out. And glare ice. At one point my son was in the toboggan beside me, because the wind was pushing him straight sideways. We almost lost the sleigh and rods when getting in to the hut. I had to go Steven Segal on the sleigh after the wind took it while I was unloading. Anyways. We caught about 30 perch in 2 hours. My son asked me to put them back down the hole, so that's where they went. Here's a few pics from the day. The ride out! The shiny new rig. Every fish he saw he would say "Back in there" "back down hole" "Fishy go". Dad/Son Selfie. The ride home he faced backwards to avoid the wind his face. I sent this to his Mom who's currently in Dominican. She doesn't like him on the ice, so I parked him on the pretty crack for a picture. There's ton of ice there. 12-14" easy... It was a great first run out with him. He was very excited to see the perch, and could watch my rod tip and tell me when I was getting bites! We may go again tomorrow. On a side note, I tested out my new perch rod for the hut. A Frabil Microlite 18" with a Diawa crossfire reel. It's slick! smooth drag for a cheap reel. Thanks for reading.!
  2. Thanks Lincoln.! What's wrong with using Vodka to keep hydrated??? I don't see an issue with that?
  3. Thanks again everyone. It sounds like I just need to apply cream lots until this crack goes away, then keep my fingers greased up/covered up as best as I can. I just hate wearing gloves, specially when perchin on Simcoe when you don't go 30 seconds without catching a fish and needing to take your gloves off again. I guess I should just stick to the slab grabbers, because they are really easy to pop fish off with out removing your gloves.
  4. Today I was offered and I accepted a part time position as a Wilderness Guide with a local wilderess tour company base out of Collingwood area. Pretty excited to actually be able to call my self a guide!!!!

  6. Thanks for all the replies! I have tried glueing it, but it always just cracks and starts bleeding again.
  7. Hey Chad, That sounds great! Do you make it the same way they make the soap on the movie Fight Club? Can't wait to taste it!!
  8. thanks guys!! I'm going to grab a can of the O'keefe's. Looks like you can get it at home depot, and Canadian Tire. As for Wayne's suggestion... I think that's possibly the worst piece of advice I have ever been given in my entire life.... Thank you. Now. I will come kill turkeys on your property! Does that count?
  9. I get the same crack in the tip of my thumb. Every ice fishing season. Exact same spot. It started at the beginning of the season, and stays till the end. A little back ground, I have about the weakest, nancy office hands you could imagine. But I rarely wear gloves on the ice, so my skin takes a beating. Does anyone else get cracked up fingertips? Do you do anything about it? Does anyone have any suggestions to treat this so it will heal up and GO AWAY? It makes it hard to text with my phone with the big split up the middle of my thumb..... I know it sounds silly asking you guys this... But thought it was worth the shot.
  10. I saw two together in a tree in Orr lake last winter. And then many many single sightings. There are lots around for sure.
  11. Very well done Sir!!! I think I am finally going to kick the old Williams to the curb, and start fishing with some of those Jigs. I know where I can steel a couple old originals..
  12. Yup. Both of those herring where just rammed with worms. The most I have ever seen in my life. Hey, good job Brian!! I made it out yesterday. Also snapped a rod!! And you are correct about the wind. It was nasty! I had to pry these poor perches jaws open for my usual elbow lock pose!!! (Figured I'd ad another pic seeing as I have somehow hijacked this post with out knowing! Hahaa)
  13. I have to say fried up line Misfish stated is my favourite way. Never tried smoked, but would really love to. I have also backed the fillets on a cookie sheet. But a point I might add about baking Try using parchment paper. Nothing sticks to that stuff. No Pam needed. When I bake them I usually try different things. Store bought rubs. Italian dressings, home made rubs or maronades. Google "ginger glaze" and see what comes up. Tatsty
  14. Ya, that's a brute! We fished Simcoe for 2 hour. Left with 23 eaters. And 2 over 14". Decent start to the season.
  15. So the plans are starting to come together., We are going to meet up around Blairs hut near the launch in CBay. Dark and early for those that can make it. First thing in the morning, we're going to run two or three truck loads of people out to some shoals close to Blairs hut. So we will have a little room for people that want to come, but aren't able to travel on the ice. Joey, Chad and myself have vehicles hopefully worthy of ice travel, depending on conditions. We are going to run back to Blairs hut around 9ish. So if anyone can't make it up early, it's a second chance to join the crew. We will fish Blairs hut area for a few hours. Hang out. Eat some food. Do the G2g thing. Then we will run out to the main lake for the afternoon and try to get to some deep shoals, weather permitting. Target some different species. I think someone mentioned BURBOT, but I, not sure.. We will fish the main lake until dark, than run back to shore and drop off who ever needs to be dropped of, and head home. If you want to come up and just hang out around Blairs hut. It's an easy walk from shore, and there's lots or parking on land, so you don't need a ice worthy vehicle. The group will be at Blairs hut from about 9 till noon for some relaxing time, out of the wind. It sounds like a good day to me!
  16. Ya. I think I may chase some Simcoe candy on Sunday as well. Likely try to find 25 to 30 FOW. And depending on the ice conditions, maybe a whitie. But I think that's wishful thinking.
  17. Wow. First time I've ever deleted a message before. Since I started in 2009. Fire a way bill!
  18. There was 4 to 6" last weekend when I was there straight out in the middle of the lake. A guy from the park was running around taking measurement of the ice, preparing to drag huts out. He was going to hold off a few days based on his measurements at that time. There must be a few more inches now, if he's dragging huts out already. Just a guess though. Guys running snowmobiles all over the lake last weekend.
  19. Yup. Chad nailed it. We will meet up somewhere in Callander Bay a short drive from the launch. At the crack of dawn. The rough plan will be to fish Callander Bay to start off. Then fan out from there and try to get on top of some fish. As for the questions about lodging. I'm sure the North Bay guys can chime in with some suggestions? I'm not from the area. We have about 10 guys coming so far. Some are tentative. I wonder what it would take to Randy from Sturgeon out there with his horse head again???
  20. Maybe I should change the name of this post to something else eh? Nip One Day Hardcore Walleye Hunt...? Or for Jeremy84, BURBOT FEST 2015! Again, sorry for anyone Who reads this and is upset it's not a traditional G2G. They are far to much planning and organization. This is just a few OFC friends who get together once a year to catch up over a few holes in the ice, and chase some eyes. We decided to open it up to the board to bring a few more people out. It's really nothing more than that.
  21. That's what I was getting at. And thats why in the title i put G2G in qoutes. Its not a traditional G2G, and not for everyone. The nip G2G used to have a BBQ and a fun derby with some cool OFC prizes. Lots of fun. Lots of people hanging out in one spot. Sorry for being blunt in my post. But this won't be that type of G2G. Just a bunch of people out to chase some fish. It won't be for everyone. But if your looking for some fun fish chasing.. Then come on up!
  22. So there used to be a bit of an annual G2G on Nippising a few years back. In the last couple of years it has dwindled to just a few members getting together via PM and fishing hard for a full day. No BBQ... No derby... No TJ or Randy... This year the core group is getting together again for a day on the ice together. It's not going to be anything big. But after a little chatting, we decided to open it up to the board. So if anyone wants to join us for some fishing for a day on Nip. Than chime in! Let's get talking about it. Feb 21 date is set in stone right now. So if you happen to have that day free, then great, come join us! There are some general requirements though: 1. Mobility. We are going to pick a spot to meet up at. But if the fish aren't biting, we're going to move. And we may bounce around from spot to spot. So you have to be mobile if you want stay with the group. In the past, we have moved around a lot. And driven trucks/jeeps all over the lake looking for fish. 2. We aren't doing a BBQ, so you need to bring your own chow. 3. You basically need to be self sufficent on the ice. We're all going there to fish, and we fish hard. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, then let me know! I will be driving up from Barrie in the early morning. Getting there before the sun comes up. Fishing all day until day, then driving back to Barrie.
  23. I don't get envious all that often. I am right now though!!!
