  1. They scream too. Makes the hair on your neck stand up.. I didn't listen to this entire video, It might contain some swearing, and or other stuff..
  2. I've done a little reading too. Nearly extinct back in the day. Re-introduced, maybe by MNR, maybe to control porcupine.. Roomers? But one thing for sure, I've been told by several people, that pound for pound they are one of the most aggressive, dangerous animals out there. No threat to an adult, but for cats and dogs for sure. Even fawn deer have been killed. One attacked a 6 year old boy, and chewed his leg up pretty good.
  3. So I bought a nice place in the country. Pretty much my dream home. It's only 1.5 acres, but I have hunting rights to the 150 acre property next to me. On Sat, I went in to the bush for the first time to do a little scouting, and hang a tree stand for the shotgun season. Went in early on Sunday to see if I could get an idea of the deer patterns in that area. But instead of seeing deer, I saw a big old fisher. I tried to go have a closer look at it, and the dam thing charged me. Didn't stop untill I drew my bow.. This crazy little animal had no fear of me. It was way to fast to get a shot off. Which is a good thing, because I later found out, that you are not allowed to hunt them, unless you are a trapper. Have any of you guys/gals had issues with Fishers before, and if so what did you do about it? I have an 11lb fu-fu dog. Easy dinner for a fisher.
  4. I wish my grandpa like to fish. I would love to spend some time with him on the water. Did you catch many perch?
  5. I really enjoyed reading that. I've never been moose hunting. but hacking the lower part of the legs off seems very common. Must make it easier to get out of the bush. Great report and pics. Thanks!
  6. Well the gear can be very simple, or very in depth. If your trying to save money, I would suggest Kijiji and Garage sales (a little late for garage sales now). I picked up a used auger for $10. I bought 4 rods, 2 reels, and 50+ ice fishing lures for $40. Camp chair %50 off at CT for $10. You will need a skimmer to clean the ice chunks out of your hole after you drill it, and as it freezes up during your day. I would highly suggest a steel one. The plastic ones break very easily. You really don't need a hut. Just warm clothes, and a thermos full of hot coffee and baileys. If you just wanting to try it, a hut could be a big waste of money. If you're hell bent on getting one, go used. As far as warm clothes go. I would suggest a floater suite. Most are very warm. See them on Kijiji for $100ish. I bought a mustang floater from the 90's for 25 bucks on Kijiji, and used it for 2 years before I upgraded to a $400 Salus. You can get in to Ice fishing really cheap if you want. Or you can spend thousands.. Either way, once you get out there, you'll love it. And yes. Blair's hut is AWESOME.. Nice and warm, and tons of space. Even has a crapper in it!
  7. I use short little rods. But one of my fishing budies has a few long rods he likes to use. He just bungies them to his augar, along with his fold up chair on the front of the quad. If he's on the sled, he has rod mounts similar to the ones shown in the bucket above, just made out of stainless, with a rubber bushing as not to scratch up the rods.
  8. Wow eh. Great time on the water. Amazing colour in the fish. Congrets on the PB.
  9. My buddy just bought a beamer this year too. Bought a used set of rims and tires, but one tire was damaged. That one tire cost him almost $500 installed and ballanced. I almost my pants when he told me.. Some "run flat" winter tire..
  10. Do you drink a lot of his beer when you visit?
  11. No kidding! Good hunting man. Thanks for sharing.
  12. I saw two deer on my way home from work. Right on Tiffen st in Barrie. Just off the 400. Good luck next week. I had to cancel my plans because of work.. argh..
  13. I'm no expert, but would tend to agree. Less cutting, more uniform truss layout, easier to shingle. Also gives you a little extra storage in the rafters.
  14. Try a big flourecent coloured mepps cyclops.
  15. Weezer covering Radiohead. The one good thing about working 13 hr shifts. I get to listen to A LOT of music on u-tube..
  16. I was wondering the same thing. Plan on building one my self in the next few years. Expect I'm going to do everything my self except the contrete slad.
  17. That's how I used to cook every fish I caught when I was a kid. You get used to where the bones are, and can pick them out really quickly. I have never stuffed anything in the belly before cooking like other are suggesting. But I have put a few slits down the side of the fish, and stuffed with garlic. It's a easy way to prepare fish, that's for sure.
  18. Nice Cliff. You must have a decent place to hunt. New stands are always great for hunting too. The deer have no clue.
  19. This thread is going to roll over 1000 replies tonight. I can feel it. Good canadian band from out east. Preforming live the the Olympics in BC.
  20. Wow. I thought shooting through 2' was good. That's crazy.!
  21. This summer I pulled up to a single boat launch on Six Mile, and there was a guy who tailored his boat over to the lunch, just to he could pull his plug and let the water drain out that had been sitting there all summer because his cover was torn. It took about 10 minutes for all the water to drain.. There are plenty of hills he could have parked on, but nope, this had to back into the boat launch. There was 3 guys ahead of me. All just sitting there glaring at the guy. I call these people "boat launch hero's".
  22. Nice looking animal. Congrets. I'm hanging a stand this weekend.
  23. Looks like a nice big hut, but I'll echo the concerns about it being so high of the ground, and the tires freezing into the ice. They my run flat if you leave it for a few months frozen into the ice. Be nice if there was a way to remove the tires, or drop the hut off the trailer. But then you'd be getting into a big re-design.
