  1. HEY!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT AM I Chris?????????? :sarcasm:  The river is the Kaministiquia River(the Kam), and lots people fish it from shore under the Hwy. 61 bridge with jigs and minnows or worms, or trolling the river from a boat upstream of Bowater up to the Fort. There are a couple other spots below bridges or offshore upstream between Thunder Bay and Kakabeka Falls(Harstone bridge has a nice rapids below it). Also, upstream of the falls, there are a couple of roads that bring you down to the river near rapids. You have to walk into them for a short bit, but fishing can be good on the right day. Walleye, bass, and pike are the norm. The Dog River can be accessed out Hwy. 11/17 west past Raith. A couple of the roads cross or end near rapids to fish from shore if you do not have a boat. Hazelwood can give up some Walleye off shore, but mostly small perch. But in winter you can walk out and get into bigger perch, some walleye, and whitefish also. That's if you ice fish.
  2. Don't get mad Gerritt, get even. Carve a pumpkin with Dave's face on it to scare the little kiddies,
  3. If you are talking about windows wallpaper/desktop background, just right click on the photo, and select Set as Desktop Background
  4. I was at work until almost 9 pm. When I got home, discovered I had been without power for 8 hr. 40 min. Outlying buildings of our University were without power since around noon. Trees down, along with power lines. Rain, and heavy winds still forecasted for tomorrow, time will tell. Had to reset a couple of AC clocks.
  5. I can believe that. On a trib farther east at the mouth of a river, 5-7 yrs. ago, we caught approx. 25-30 in the first weekend of October once. Never had the same luck ever again, maybe 2-5. All were released. But they did get the heartrate going, imaging they were Coho's.
  6. My buds and I have caught lakers at this time of year in rivers for over 20 years while targeting salmon and rainbows. Common occurrence up here on Superior tribs. Usually the larger rivers.
  7. OHHH..............BUUURRRNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I use ziploc bags, the small ones for cookies and crackers like stuff. Just coil them up and stuff them in. I can fit 40 harnesses into a 20 CD case(2 per CD insert). They sometimes do come out a bit tangled, but that is no real big deal. The CD case is hard to zipper closed with that many in it. But, it is an extremely small and portable storage container. I also make them only 18" long, and make up 18" lengtheners, with an ant swivel at the lead, and a snap swivel at the lure end. That way, I can add any length of lead I want behind the bottom bouncer, or whatever device you are using to get the lure down to, depending on the depth you(I) fish.
  9. My local store stocks them, but the above is what you are looking for if your local store does not have a supply.
  10. Here ya go. I remember this video from 6 yrs. ago. It's supposed to be a gun to take down water buffalo. Bigger, more punch, than an elephant gun.
  11. Thanks Simon. We were after Salmon, but the coasters got in the way a couple of times. They are closed now. Glad to see them though. A rehabilitation effort has been ongoing for a few years. We have never gotten into this many accidentally. Maybe one skinny one around 14-16" on occasion, not the 2-3+ lbers. we ran into.
  12. Great stuff Simon, and I hope you don't mind, that is an awesome sunset walleye pic which is now my work laptop background image. Its already turned a couple of heads in the office.
  13. Got out for some Coho's on Superior tribs. Didn't take long. My bud got one on his 3rd cast while I was tying up. Then I got my first on my 2nd cast while my bud was taking care of his first fish. A few minutes later my bud gets another one, smaller, tried to take a pic but batteries were toast in my camera and I did not think to bring along extras. I usually have them in my camera bag, but since we were wading a deep river, I put the camera in a ziplock bag to reduce space in my pack. I was reserving it for fish. Lunch stayed in the cooler in the truck, only brought one Kitkat choclate bar with me. Shortly after that, on my 5th cast, got another one about 23.5", another male. We did not want to haul this weight of fish in our packs up the river 2 miles, so we put them in a bag and cached them under some low cedars out of the sun. Off we go upstream, and I get another slightly smaller female. That one went into the pack. Got a 4th, but it was a very small male, maybe 14", but ready to spawn, milt spewing from it from the short time it was out of the water. I so wish I could have had an operational camera, as the sky above this river was teeming with bald eagles, lots of immatures, all sizes, and some matures. My bud saw one pick off a pink salmon in a shallower section. We did not spend a single minute(and we were fishing for 4 hrs. at least)without seeing at least one eagle overhead, sometimes over a dozen at times. Pretty awesome spectacle. Surprisingly, no bear tracks on the river bank. We have seen tracks before, and individual bears, and sows with cubs, but no evidence of them this day. Anyhow, we went quite far upriver, and no Coho's to be found. Guess they are just starting to come in. Got back down to where we started, and my bud gets another one, the biggest of the day. While he is taking care of it, I get an absolutely solid hit. Start to bring it in, and it just has nothing to do with that, bulldogging/twisting/thrashing/ and running out line all the way. Caught a glimpse of it 15 ft. out, and thought, why is this fish this size being so difficult? Got it closer, and amid the reflection of the rising sun off of the water, me moving downstream to pull the fish upstream for better vision with my polaroid sunglasses, and it all became clear...........COASTER BROOK TROUT!!!!!! approx. 3.5 lbs. These things do not know the meaning of quit. Soon as I realized what I had on, I backed off fighting the fish hard. Took another 2-3 minutes coaxing it at least to get it to the bank, then corralled it between my knees to get the hook out. Sorry, no pics of it, they are OOS. Swam away strong. We tried 2 other places, ran into OOS coasters again, along with a Coho which missed my spinner on first attempt, 2nd attempt, the lure was fouled up, so the fish could not get a good grip on it to be hooked. Didn't come back for a 3rd try. Stopped in at Rossport to see if a friend of ours was there. He and his wife had just arrived 30 min. previous. Hadn't seen them for over 10 yrs., so it was a nice 1 hr. GTG. Off we went, and hit a 3rd trib. My bud got his 4th Coho, 3rd kept, and released a nice rainbow. I got squat here. On the way back, we hit a logjam of tractor/trailers, and other vehicles. Trucker off the road. Really bad place to go off also, carring a load of paper which caught fire. Not sure if he made it, or his passenger. Was still smoldering when we were finally able to pass by. Couldn't see the truck as it was down a 45 ft. embankment. Only pics I have are from yesterday at home on the kitchen counter. Dan Bouck, a pm is forthcoming, as I see we do not have a salmon entered yet.
  14. Excellent pics Brandon. Looking forward to the rest.
  15. SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations. Have an awesome life you two.
  16. Have you looked at Mike's Reel Repair site? 54 Browning models listed in PDF with part numbers. http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/schematics/thumbnails.php?album=29
  17. I use this for the Great Lakes, not for inland. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/maps/EastGL.shtml
  18. I would have liked to have met Brandon also Dan, but I was at work at PACI installing technology for classroom teaching from 8 am until 3:30 pm, then went back to the University to work the President's dinner for new students riding audio levels. Was there until almost 9:30 pm. Got to the Beer Store before they closed though :thumbsup_anim: :thumbsup_anim:
  19. What DanC said, but you may need a new camera after traveling the north shore of Superior. You can possibly wear it out with all the photo op's. Batchawana Bay, Montreal river harbor, Old Woman Bay(huge hill east of the beach). Coldwell harbor, Auguasobon Falls in Terrace Bay, Rossport. There is a pullover at the top of the hill just a klik past the Dublin River(Creek) that overlooks Nipigon Bay, great view. Then you get to Nipigon, and a klik after the bridge there is a lookout at the top of the hill. On to Thunder Bay, after you cross the McKenzie River, keep a lookout on the right side of the road. There will be a small plaque and groomed area about 8 kms later. It is the official stop of Terry Fox's run across Canada. It is a small area, but worthy of note. Next up is the Terry Fox Lookout(Thunder Bay lookout), a must see. If you have the time for a side trip, 9 miles before McKenzie River and Crystal Beach Store is the Pass Lake truck stop, turn left and go down the 26 miles on the Sibley Peninsula, that is where the "Sea Lion" is. Lots of deer on this road, so be careful. At the end is the community of Silver Islet, lots of history there. If the timing of your trip is right, and you are tent camping, then Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is on the way down to Silver Islet. Once in Thunder Bay, one of the best places to hit is Hillcrest Park, easily reached by turning left at Balsam St. off hwy 11/17. Turn right at the 4 way stop at Margaret/Keith St. and stay left on High St. N. You will go through 3 light stops. One at High and River St. One at High and Van Norman St., the last at High and Red River Rd. Less than half a klik you are at the lookout, you will see a sunken garden on your left then Colonel Keane Drive. That's the place. There is also the lookout on Mt. McKay, but it would be difficult to give you directions here. 17 miles west of Thunder Bay on hwy 17 is Kakabeka Falls. It is actually higher than Niagara, but does not have the water flow(it drains a huge area, but not 4 out of 5 of the great lakes like Niagara). After through Thunder Bay, you are into bush. Lots of it. If you decide to travel at night, make sure you fill up your gas tank and watch out for moose. Lots of small places to get gas up here during daylight hours(same goes for Superior between Sault Ste. Marie and Nipigon) but not after 8 pm in most places. At night leaving TBay, next gas would be Dryden, then Kenora.
  20. Yup, that's the one for sure.
  21. Great stuff, awaiting the rest of the pictures.
  22. Sorry, have no clue how to do multiple quote responses, but here goes............... Hey Nita, welcome back. All is right in the world today with you back on the board. Just got your pm this morning(wasn't on the pc much Saturday, and was fishing Sunday). "thanks everyone! Good to be back! I won't be contributing much to the fishing board as I haven't even been out in the boat yet this year with Dan up in Red Lake for the past 6 months. I'm usually busy chasing our 3 yr old grandson who lives with us for the better part of the day. I am wondering though, if Roger Mayer and I still hold the record for the most replies generated in one hour? Anyone remember that one? LOL" YUP, remember that one, that's pretty much the day when I joined this board, didn't know what the heck was going on, but it was hilarious. Some posts that have been locked down may have more replies, but I doubt an unlocked post has beat that one. "I remember that but sadly , Mahumba doesn't visit here anymore....unless he changed his name" he has not changed his username, he is just busy. He does read this board frequently though. "Been a while sis, good to see you back.I do remember the Roger Mayer and you post. You would be surprised how many old posters still lurk and communicate thru PMs here. Joe " Hey, you callin' me old????? "ha ha ha @ pink fish. I"ll have to see if I can find it again. Nice to see that I'm remembered lol. The biggest reason I did the re introduction, was because I'd pm'd a ton of people for something that shall remain unamed, but if your nick fell between M-Z, you probably got one from me. Well, one of those members reported me to the mods for scamming and opened a great big ol' can of worms (not the fishing kind) Things have since smoothed over but I was really upset about it yesterday. And to be honest, I hope whomever did it, feels like a complete arse now and knows that a mods wife wouldn't be trying to scam anyone on here. This board is probably the biggest family in the world and it never fails to amaze me how we all pull together to help someone. Gerritt is the first person that comes to mind for me because I cried right along with him when Terry passed away, as did so many others. It wasn't the first time this board reached out to help someone and definitely not the last. Thank God for that I do have a question though, Dan and I have both tried to be logged in to the board at the same time and one of us always gets booted out. We're guessing it's some kind of security setting for ip addresses but not sure. Anyone else experience this? I'll also try and get some pics up soon lol. Thanks again everyone Sis " don't worry yourself about it, the mods know who you are. As for getting booted out, not sure. Dan is in Red Lake, you are at home, should be no issue. Try a different browser. I don't think this is the avatar, but it is close. http://fishingboard.thunderbayfishing.com/uploads/av-16.jpg
  23. The Red Dog Inn is probably the best, the Imperial being second. I have stayed in both and had no issues with either, but that was 20 years ago. http://www.reddoginn.ca/default.asp Drifters Roadhouse Imperial Inn does not seem to have a website, just an e-mail address. http://www.lakesuperiorcircletour.info/lodging/terrace_bay.html
