  1. My sincere condolences Lew.
  2. As far as I remember(and that was over 2 yrs. ago), the Comfort Inn was on the east side of Memorial Ave,, south of hwy. 12, right across from Progress Drive. And, a Tim Horton's is also right on the corner on the south side of hwy. 12 on the west side, same side as Progress Dr. BTW, Progress Drive is an industrial park. If you need any on the spot welding done, continue down(south) Memorial Ave., until you see a candle factory on your right, then turn left(it's either Patterson Rd., or Forest Home Rd),. Old Tyme welding, is just to the right soon as you turn off. Jim is the owner(I referred to him as Indian Larry with my workmates when I was down there, , he does have a resemblence without the tattoos, but please don't tell him that), he came through for us on a moments notice. Super nice guy that I ran into(go figger, in the Timmies near Progress Drive) a couple of times. As far as bars go, never actually really sought them out. We had a suite in Heritage Place, which also houses the City Council. Our local University, Lakehead University has a satellite campus there. Right across the street was Caddyshack's, at the NW corner of Colborne St. W, and West St. S. Had a meet and greet with Maureen(motv8tr) there. Parking is an issue in Orillia, Mo had to park to the east over a block away. We ate there a lot because it was so close, and it was good eats also. The girls working there were superb. I got a free meal from them without management's permission because I figured out how to reset one of their plasma displays so it was not in zoom mode(it had been in that mode for 2 months because the manager set it that way, and nobody could figger out how to put it back into normal display mode, took me 5 minutes). But beware, its not "health food", but it is tasty.|It's a bar, and the guy that runs the Radio Shack in the mall north of hwy. 11 also shows up there once a week for Karaoke and other entertainment purposes. One place we went to eat a couple of times, and I cannot remember the name now, was a Chinese buffet place. It was down either Coldwater St. E, or Mississagua St. E. toward lake Couchiching. If memory works, it was down Coldwater. But if you drive down Mississagua, and you reach the end, if the place is not on your left, turn left, and go to the next st. It should be right there. I posted this a couple of years ago, and the comments about Tim Horton's locations in Orillia are bang on, http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=qp_zyuo0W2o
  3. I have received at least 4 of those exact e-mails the last 9 months. But, I don't have a registered paypal account. BEWARE.................just delete the message.
  4. It can come down to how you move it hole to hole. I run the throttle right handed, gas tank toward me, exhaust away from me. When I finish, I hook my arm through the right hand side handle, so as to keep the exhaust away from me(my buds jacket is still on the exhaust port because he carried it differently, lol). If I do it the other way, it always dies on me. Probably the float bowl is getting flooded. If you carry it upright to the next hole(which is not easy to do with a 5 ft. tall auger), it probably will not die out on you. If you carry it by the auger bit, the power head will spin, and again probably flood the carb.
  5. Heck we like to say it to your face, lol.
  6. I think I was the first one to hear your "non-edited" version Oh,..... I have said a few "choice" words myself over the years.
  7. and John Wayne's real first name was Marion, but I don't think that is the answer, actually have no clue myself what Jethro's rosponse is,
  8. If that option works for that site, fantastic!!!! However, if that was a forum here, I would probably have missed FishnNAutographs post about his daughter for over a day, and I think that is not acceptable. I go directly to the general discussion area, and rarely go to the other sections. That is why it is called the "General Discussion" forum, where you can: "Talk about fishing, hunting, the great outdoors or whatever you like in here! Keep it clean!" This is the place we can post ANYTHING, from fishing/hunting reports, ask questions from anything like plumbing to lawn care, ask for, and respond to requests of support in times of need. Its up front and in our face, and it works. I am a recent recipient of support, well wishes, prayers, and quite a few pm's from members here. No disrespect, my opinion is we do not need it.
  9. Guess you missed this thread, its still on the main page, http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27144
  10. That is awful to hear. Prayers sent for a speedy recovery.
  11. My condolences also to you, I feel your pain. I lost my Mom last Tuesday December 30th, 2008.
  12. Mild spells Bernie?????????????? What are those, lol Dan, all we need now is the snow dump we got in '96 to complete the winter, then have it taper off for the rest of the year, God willing, lol
  13. December 8 6:00 PM. It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge soft flakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses Print. So romantic we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow! December 9 We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the Whole World? Moving here was the best idea I've ever had. Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life. December 12 The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment. My neighbor tells me not to worry, we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll never want to see snow again. I don't think that's possible. Bob is such a nice man, I'm glad he's our neighbor. December 14 Snow lovely snow! 8" last night. The temperature dropped to -20. The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life! The snowplow came back this afternoon and buried everything again. I didn't realize I would have to do quite this much shoveling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this way. December 15 20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and 2 extra shovels. Stocked the freezer. The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out. I think that's silly. We aren't in Alaska, after all. December 16 Ice storm this morning. Fell on my butt on the ice in the driveway putting down salt. Hurt like heck. The wife laughed for one hour, which I think was very cruel. December 17 Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. Guess I should've bought a wood stove, but won't admit it to her. God I hate it when she's right. I can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room. December 20 Electricity's back on, but had another 14" of the damn stuff last night. More shoveling. Took all day. Darn snowplow came by twice. Tried to find a neighbor kid to shovel, but they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they're lying. Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snow blower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think they're lying. Bob says I have to shovel or the city will have it done and bill me. I think he's lying. December 22 Bob was right about a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the white crap fell today, and it's so cold it probably won't melt till August. Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed up to go out to shovel and then I had to poop. By the time I got undressed, pooped and dressed again, I was too tired to shovel. Tried to hire Bob who has a plow on his truck for the rest of the winter; but he says he's too busy. I think the jerk is lying. December 23 Only 2" of snow today. And it warmed up to 0. The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning. What is she nuts!!! Why didn't she tell me to do that a month ago? She says she did but I think she's lying. December 24 6". Snow packed so hard by snowplow, I broke the shovel. Thought I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the man who drives that snowplow I'll drag him through the snow by his nose and beat him to death with my broken shovel. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then he comes down the street at 100 miles an hour and throws snow all over where I've just been! Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas carols with her and open our presents, but I was too busy watching for the snowplow. December 25 Merry -bleeping- Christmas! 20 more inches of the slop tonight. Snowed in. The idea of shoveling makes my blood boil. I hate the snow! Then the snowplow driver came by asking for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel. The wife says I have a bad attitude. I think she's a dang idiot. If I have to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" one more time, I'm going to stuff her into the microwave. December 26 Still snowed in. Why the heck did I ever move here? It was all HER idea. She's really getting on my nerves. December 27 Temperature dropped to -30 and the pipes froze, plumber came after 14 hours of waiting for him, he only charged me $1400 to replace all my pipes. December 28 Warmed up to above -20. Still snowed in. THE WITCH is driving me crazy!!! December 29 10 more inches. Bob says I have to shovel the roof or it could cave in. That's the silliest thing I ever heard. How dumb does he think I am? December 30 Roof caved in. I beat up the snow plow driver he is now suing me for a million dollars not only the beating I gave him but also for trying to shove the broken snow shovel up where the sun don't shine. The wife went home to her mother. 9" predicted. December 31 I set fire to what's left of the house. No more shoveling. January 8 Feel so good. I just love those little white pills they keep giving me. Why am I tied to the bed?
  14. Great report, great fish also. Thanks for posting this. But.............I think you guys and the others that were out there are a half bubble off of plumb  -6C, yeaaacchh. One walleye opener a few years back, it was +1C with rain, and I got so badly cramped up I almost could not help my bud get all the gear loaded back up on the truck. Once in the truck, my lower back started to have spasms. Told him to just keep driving through my moaning. He turned up the stereo louder to drown me out, :w00t:
  15. Only a couple of ice hole slusher's(one retreived with the gaff strapped to a long straight skinny tree), and one cheap jigging rod and reel. 3 buds of mine were fishing on Lake Superior many years ago in 200 ft. of water, and one of the guys lost his jigging rod down the hole after a laker took it(he had not released the bail when he was checking his other line), and about 20 min. later one of the other guys had his line going down. Not exactly fish on, but fishing line on. Up came the jigging rod, and the fish was still on. It was landed. An odd one up here was a local angler and outdoor writer lost his wallet down the hole one time. A few years later, maybe 10-15 yrs., another guy was setting his line depth while ice fishing, and snagged the wallet back complete with cash, credit cards, licenses, etc...
  16. Sounds like you do not have a tow behind sleigh, so I don't know if this will work for you. For over 20 yrs. my buds and I have used 5 gallon industrial paint, drywall compound, etc. containers. The ones where you have to cut the notches to remove the lid. They have a rubber o-ring seal in the lid. Snaps on very tight. We used to carry them on our snowmobiles between our legs until we got proper sleighs. Just wrapped a bungee cord around us and the bucket to keep it in place. Of course, we lost them quite a few times on portage trails or hitting drifts on the ice, but the lids have never come off. They can be tough to open though in very cold temperatures, but they are ballistic. Sometimes we get almost inch thick ice forming on the inside, and we just take the back of an axe head and bang it all around the outside to break it loose.
  17. can you say SHOOTOUT!!!!!!!
  18. Paul, I have that same set-up on my 8 ft. Equinox Trail Boggan, and a full hitch frame is the way to go. Reinforce the hitch point on the lead sleigh with wood or metal, I chose wood. I did that because where I go, portage trails are the norm, need the extra length of a full hitch assembly to tackle the tight corners without the sleighs contacting each other.
  19. Thank you everyone for all the kind words am pm's. It is very much appreciated. Tom
  20. about an hour ago. She was 86 and in a Nursing home. Damn, I will miss her.
  21. Wow, a Spiel Custom rod!!!!!!!!! Congrats, and give Joey a few extra hugs for sure.
  22. Hey Tony, glad you are getting out, and having success. Haven't really seen you around this board much for a bit. But, then again, I am not around here much also. Read it daily, but just skim over most posts unless something really catches my eye. Right now, being off work until Jan. 2nd, I have a bit more time to read everything. Hope to have reports with pictures starting sometime in January, if work permits.
  23. I have seen many pics from people up here using the Moultrie i 40 camera, and the pics are amazing. Do not know anything about this specific brand, or any other models or anything, but it seems that the 4 megapixel ones are the way to go with an SD card option. Battery life in low temps are supposedly quite good also, but if no game comes into camera range for extended periods of time, then the units seem to last quite long. The unit probably goes into some kind of sleep mode until activity is recognized by the IR receiver.
  24. I have eaten the liver of deer many times, but in moderation(split between 3 guys, once a month at best), but never the heart. We were warned not to eat deer heart at all. Moose hearts I have kept(my buds do not want them, but another bud of mine's grandfather loves them, knows how to cook them, so I kept them for him). Moose liver we keep, but still eat it in moderation. Has anyone ever tried moose tongue, heard snippets about it being quite tasty, but none of us have ever tried it??? One time, we were dressing out a deer at a buds place, and a guy of east orient persuation walked up to us, and wanted the feet. Now, I know that pig's feet, and the feet of other hooved animals are quite a delicacy in some cultures, but we declined to give them to him. He even offered to buy them from us, but it is not legal to sell animal parts, and we did not think that hooves from a whitetail would yield much gelatin to make it worth his while. But, we could be wrong about that. One of my moose hunting buds keeps certain bones for boiling out the marrow for soup, but I have never sampled it myself. And I cannot remember which ones he kept for the pot.
