  1. Great report, I guess that lodge really lives up to its name!
  2. Nice catch! Those accidental muskies are always a rush! I love bass fishing, but I have spent 90% of my time fishing this year casting for muskie!
  3. Enjoy! I gotta get up there again soon!
  4. Great stuff man, I need an adventure like that!
  5. great photos as always, I'd love to do a trip like that!
  6. I started to wear mine all the time this year. Most of my time on the water is in a canoe with my 7 year old son. I also wear a helmet when cycling 100% of the time.
  7. Get a Buff! I wear them all the time, it will protect your whole face and neck from the sun. The material is breathable and will even keep the mosquitoes away.
  8. I regularly drive 2-3 hours and then another 1-2 hiking or canoeing to get into remote places. While living in Halifax I would drive 4+ hours to Fredericton for muskie fishing. The trips typically started around 1am and I would get home 23-24 hours later. I did this at least a dozen times and probably half the trips resulted in zero fish caught! That being said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat, those big river muskies are awesome!
  9. Hey Gerritt! Mackerel will probably be moving when you are there. You can pick up mackerel rigs fora few bucks at any Canadian tire out there. They are a lot of fun, especially if you get a bunch on your hooks at the same time! There is also opportunity for striped bass in tidal water, but I never got them dialed in when I lived out east. Smallies will be easy to find at this time of year in most bodies of freshwater, but you wont see many big ones (compared to Ontario smallies that is). There are plenty of nice brook trout out there as well - they dont get huge, but they sure are pretty!
  10. Great recap UF! Good luck on the rest of the season!
  11. Awesome fish man! I need to get my hands on one of those fattys!
  12. I've been without cable TV for almost 10 years now and have no regrets. Most of our shows are watched out Netflix or Hulu. I'm using another service that is $5 a month more to get the US version of Netflix, and free version of Hulu which offers a ton of new content weekly. I've never used AppleTV or WDLive, but I have my computer hooked up right to my TV and a small Android PC that plays just about anything you Android phone will play on your TV screen (with exception of Hulu Free). Its a bit clumsy, but very user friendly if you already have an Android phone. As far as bandwith, not all Netflix media will stream at the highest HD, and I think there may even be an option to user lower quality, but I'll have to double check that when I'm home. But as everyone has said, 30gb is likely too little.
  13. Used a single Cheezie on a hook and had a tarpon hit it, didnt get the hook to stick though
  14. Solid lures for sure! I've been loving their top water mouse lures especially. Pike and bass love em, but they aren't the most durable. http://www.livetargetlures.com/products/freshwater/field_mouse.php
  15. Great stuff Pete, when you finally get that 50, no one can say you didnt earn it!! You made a solo trip in the snow? Gimme a shout next time!
  16. not bad at all! I've always wanted them to bring back the Bronco!
  17. If you guys are in to big pike, Nothern Ontario has many offerings, including one of my favs, Sportsmans Lodge on Little Vermilion. Several OFNers have been there (most make return trips). At under $1000 per person for 7 days, its a pretty good deal too. Here are some sample pike I caught there...
  18. My favourite way to fish! We spent a lot of time on foot this year, and managed few nice fish a long the way. Here are a few of the memorable shots so far! My 6 year old son Ash snapped this one a few weeks ago while we shore fished! Some TO pike, the biggest one was caught by my girlfriend, but she wasnt ready for the hero shot. Ash had a big year, with a few days of 50+ panfish, and managed to nail a 23 inch largie too (thanks to Fidel for lipping the best while I took photos!) a mixed bag..
  19. I just picked up a Curado 301 this year and I absolutely love it! I think I paid around $250 in July. I've also got a Calcutta 251 that I picked up back in 2004 and was on light musky duty and its still in great shape (I mainly use it for bass and pike now). You cant go wrong with a larger used one that should fall in your price range. As for the Quantum Cabo, I have mixed feelings about mine. I love the look and feel of the reel, but it didnt stand up well to the stress of casting musky lures. The main gear cracked, and since Quantum/Zebco dont make the part I need anymore it just sits on my shelf collecting dust. I'd grab another, but wouldnt pay must over $100 personally - and I wouldn't cast any heavy baits with it. theres the crack... Then it fell into peices after pulling the reel apart.
  20. Had my son start with an Ugly stick as well, they really beat up the tips of rods when they are learning to cast! I'm pretty sure Canadian tire stil has a nice Quantum combo for $23.99 (70% off what it normally is I think!) Cant beat that price!
  21. I just picked up some neopreme waters from BPS this spring. From my expereince with them, I wouldnt recomend them (and they arent the cheap ones they offer, they run $190 typcailly, but where around $60 off on sale). I do find them warm, but they are not comfortable and for a guy my size (5'10, 155lbs) they are way too big around the waist and chest. I'm planning on a pickign up a set of sock waders next. If you have a bit more meat around the top, you probably wont have my problem!
