"spineless and uncalled for"?? Completely disagree. Making a call is the proper thing to do. The CO will check them out, if they are not targeting out of season species, all is well - if they are, and the CO can prove it they will be fined accordingly. Wether the fish are being kept or not is only a small part of the issue. The area is closed now because of spawning - simply catching a spawning pike will potentially damage future populations. MYOB?? Its important for all of us to help preserve our fishery, even if they are pike.

I'd go with the clown X-Rap and soft plastics too. I'd expect to see plenty of follows, and few takers. If you get a follower a suspending abit like an x-rap is key - give it a nice long pause 10+ seconds and then a slight twitch, then hang on!

As far as I'm concerned, you only need 2 lures you'll find in those stores: #5 Mepps (Black Fury or Aglia) and a Clown X-Rap. There are all sorts for lures that will work, but those two have caught me more TO pike then any other! Started making my own lures for TO a while back with extra wight for shore casting... Heres a solid black fury TO pike

For casting... 1. Firetiger 9" Suick 2. Black Perch Magic Maker 3. Orange Belly 6" Perch Phantom 4. Yellow/black Mepps Black Fury musky killer 5. Silver/orage/black 7.5" Rockstar inline

All depends on the target species for me. I have a few smaller reels I typically use for bass that dont have a lot of line on em. I'm into my 3-4 season with the same spool of braid with no issue to speak of.

Palomar knot here to - I tied braid direct too all my lures unless im fishing for muskie or pike.

I've always used 12 inch 80# fluro leaders for pike with zero issues.

Ive got a Shimano Calcutta and a Quantum Cabo CBC30PTs and I love em both. Both have seen heavy use in fresh and salt water and are a bit worse for the wear, but I still have faith in them both! Cabelas has the Cabo on sale for 100 (usually 185) - CBC30PTs 270/14 5.7:1 - Sadly the only have right hand retrieves left...

2-3 inch silver Len Thomson spoon caught me all sorts of fish down south, cant go wrong with a clown x-rap either!

I've tried several sub $20 pairs and they were all pretty crappy except the new Berkley glasses I got last summer for $5 at Walmart in the US. The Look good and dont feel cheap like the others I've owned.

I'm a lefty too! Never had trouble finding lefty reels though. Bass Pro brand and Cabelas brand are all righties (at least they used to be) but any other big brand should offer most of their reels in both.
