  1. I remember those days at Sunnyside beach in Toronto. Mega smell and flies. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that the main reason they introduced the Pacific Salmon? For alewife control. And are they native? Thought they weren't.
  2. Just looking out on the lake. 3 guys in a bass boat fishing a weedy hump. Crazy rain and thunder. Not moving. Finally they move. To another spot. I don't get it.
  3. Beauti report. Are they on the north shore yet?
  4. Much needed and welcome.
  5. Had a CO check us on Nippising 9 yrs ago. Had a Crestliner with 2 str Yammy. I asked him how the boat held up. I had just bought my Lund and before that had considered a Crestliner. He said it had performed well and it took a pounding on Nippising's big water. Says a lot.
  6. Too many muskies around to dink around with 6-8 lb.
  7. A few weeks ago I asked you guys about a better casting braid on a spinning reel I had been using 10 lb Crystal but wasn't happy with casting distance. Some recommended Nanofil. Bought some 12 lb and tried it. So far it's great. Way smoother and casts probably 10-20% further and with less effort. Kinda pricey but only put 75 yards on my 2500 reel with leaving 1/4 spool of the Crystal on as a backing. Thanks Gents for the recommendation.
  8. Just a reminder that trailers decrease in value. Cottages generally go up over time. To share one amongst 4 families would be tricky.
  9. Working this weekend. Temps last weekend were 65. Likely 70 now. Anybody know?
  10. Nobody is very accurate till the day before or better the morning of, IMO.
  11. There was talk a few years ago that the gobies were going to impact the survival rate of eggs/young. And that the adults would grow big feeding on gobies. Less smaller fish. Thoughts?
  12. Some of us are not into quickies. ?
  13. Not on Pigeon, for sure less than 1000. More like 100 many days.
  14. Picked up 12 lb Nanofil Not cheap. $22 for 150 yds. The boys at LeBaron recommend it as well for longer casts. Also said less abrasion resistance. Will use a Fluoro leader. Will report back. They're saying the walleye bite in the Kawarthas has been tough this week.
  15. Had several boats throwing jigs and small cranks shallow to shore and around docks along our shoreline. Mid day. Blue skies A well known smallie spawning area. I have a friend that got dragged all the way to court after bring checked by a CO on Balsam. He was fishing for eyes on a windy day. Had a tangle to deal with and ended getting blown into a bass spawning area. Had no bass in well. CO checked his freezer at cottage. Was on witch hunt. Found nothing. Lost 2-3 days going to court. Common sense judge threw it out. Crazy. Anybody hear of something like this.
  16. Looking for a new braid line to cast jigs and smaller crankbaits. Been using 10 lb Crystal now for several years. I'm not getting the casting distance I could because the line isn't that smooth. Berkley says it's designed for spinning reels. With a light kink to it I think the smaller guides on my rods create too much friction. Any suggestions for an alternative braid?
  17. Nice. They are well fed. What's in their bellies?
  18. Does anybody know if there are laws regarding noisy boats? Saw a large speedboat at the Fenlon locks today. Rediclously loud exhaust. Tonight fishing a smaller speedboat flies by. The car engine behind the driver was taller than he was sitting. Crazy loud. I had just been stopped by OPP at 7 pm. Next to Boyd Island. All good. No issues. Should have asked them.
  19. Or better, Ask for proper tick control now and return the Revolution
  20. Sorry to say Revolution is a poor drug for ticks. Fine for everything else like heartworm and fleas. 3 good meds for ticks for dogs. K9 Advantix Nexguard Bravecto. Should start in spring as soon as temps increase above about 4C. Keep going till late fall until temps stay below 4C. Ticks are more active in spring and fall than mid summer. For people, cover up in the woods/tall grass. Check yourselves over end of day. Top to bottom. You won't feel a tick bite or if a tick is attached. They stay on for 4-6 days. Lyme disease transmission requires the tick be attached for 24 hrs or more. Prompt removal is key. Grab it by the head with some tweezers immediately next to your skin and pull straight out. Do not grab it with your fingers. You'll just squeeze bad germs into you. Ticks are nothing to fool with. The worse spots in Ontario are Prince Edward County east to Montreal. The north shore of Lake Erie. Lots of ticks elsewhere but less Lyme disease. Hope this helps. Be safe.
  21. Too weanie to go out. Saw a few brave souls. Terrific winds and some flurries today. I'll gettum next week.
  22. I'm all over these. Trolling weed edges. ?
  23. Will suck. Cold. Wet. Windy ?
  24. So. Just an update. Through Lew I got the name of a tree cutter. Took my ash tree down yesterday. Haven't been at the cottage but he said all went well. Did it for $1500. Last year's quote by another guy was $2600. This guy was going to take the smaller branches away. For the $1500 I'll be doing that. Now to chop and split. Thanks Lew.
