I wash them, put them in a ziploc bag and throw them in the freezer.

Bassin' Report - Great start but I ended the day very angry!
Rich replied to 007's topic in General Discussion
To be fair, bowfin thrive in extremely warm and shallow water. Warmer than largemouth can stand. But I dont think that rope through his gill helped much. He will undoubtedly live though. Other than that, looks like a great day. Nice work! Unethical anglers and downright law breakers seem to be thriving these days. The MNR does what they can but it's obviously not enough. What are we to do? Take the law into our own hands? We're being forced to have no choice. -
It's a sad day when a simple joke like this has to be dissected about "political correctness" Great joke. The replies afterward turned it sour. Except for Terry's! Good stuff.

Awesome fish, nice work!

Sleded and I headed out to test our new musky rods this afternoon on long Point Bay. After launching in Port Rowan it was a quick, calm ride out about 2 miles to the weed flats where pike frequent. For some reason, maybe the fact that the weeds weren't so dense, I decided to troll to start. It took about 10 minutes of trolling and I was into the biggest pike I've ever landed in Long Point Bay. No idea on weight or length but it was well over 40 inches for sure. She hit on the good old black/orange 1 1/2 oz spinnerbait trolled at about 2mph. What a fight! Visions of musky danced through my head upon first hooking her, but up came this pike. A true trophy for LPB and I must say it's something I'm proud of. Thank you sleded for putting the grip on her at boatside! After a little more trolling we couldn't take it anymore so we decided to cast. Sleded put on a firetiger Williams Wobbler and it wasn't long before he was into a decent pike. I began casting a white Mepps Musky Killer on one of my bass rods for a while when suddenly at boatside, kaboom, another pike on. This one just a little guy, but still full of fight! I put back on the musky spinnerbait and began casting and before the night was over I was into two more clones almost back to back. A few more missed pike and it was getting dark. We had to enjoy the fall sunset over the bay. We then switched our focus to topwater bass hunting. We just couldn't hook up. We tossed buzzbaits and Jitterbugs and had about 5 blow-ups from half decent bass, but like I said, we couldn't hook em. Trailer hooks would have probably solved the problem.. but we were just relaxing.. not trying too hard. After a couple of hours of tossing topwaters it was time to head in. What a night! Thanks Sleded for finally escaping the wife for a night of fishing!

re the threads on all the salmon river fishing
Rich replied to aniceguy's topic in General Discussion
One of my favourite salmon experiences was fishing a creek with Sleded last year. It was late october and we were fishing steelhead. Sleded was casting a Cleo in a pool when this salmon came out of a logjam and smashed it. It chased the spoon probably 5 feet upstream before hitting, 3 of us witnessed it. But nope, they don't eat. -
All interesting theories. We can rule out the food theory though. No salmon in this creek as it does not connect to Lake Erie (well it does but it takes 4 dams and a waterfall to get there). However they are dredging up river so maybe food is being stirred up off the bottom and carried to them over the spillway. Either way it was cool seeing them.

I'll let Sugarpacket give the full report, but we were at a local dam yesterday and I noticed fish trying to jump the dam. At first I thought they were trout.. but apparently not. They were suckers. I've seen suckers do this in the spring but never in the fall, any idea why they would be trying to jump the dam at this time of year? I gotta give those little guys credit.. some of them made it halfway up. Seems they have some hidden power in those little bodies. lol And this last one is my fav shot.. you can almost see his face. Has anyone else seen this type of behaviour from suckers in the fall? First time i've seen it.

Well yeah you throw them on a mini and of course they're gonna look huge!
-
Use a heavy glove and lip them like a bass. Once your thumb is in there they will clamp down.

I got one for free from my bank. Ironically, it has a picture of a fish on it. lol
-
Odd, usually I only catch musky on my walleye rod!
-
Excellent idea. I couldn't believe they opened that place up for ice fishing in the first place and I also noticed the decline of panfish since then. Hopefully stocks go back up!

No ill will towards Bill's.. they did a great job. I just dont think Hammy is ready for tournament pressure again just yet.
-
Nice work guys! I can't believe Curtis actually fished!
-
Well I gotta say it.. what a stupid place to hold a tournament. All of the fishable areas were packed with boats and of course the bass would not co-operate with that kind of pressure on them. Some guys got a few, good for them overcoming the odds! I think Sheriff and his brother got into a decent one. As for me and dad, we got skunked, not even a stinkin' catfish. We fished from Pier 4 to the Harbour Authority all the way to Lasalle.. nadda. Most others we talked to were getting the same. The only thing of interest was seeing some salmon jump near Lasalle. I hate to base my opinion on a waterbody on one day, but I definitely won't be going back next year. Trying to unload at the public ramp was insane as well. Every pleasure craft in hamilton was there.

Me so sweepy... That crayfish didn't quite rival the crustaceans on the east coast, but it'll do. Several vorms were harmed in the making of this report. Welcome to the site honey! Now I have nowhere to complain about life at home

Marshmallows used to work great when I lived in Hamilton. I'm not sure if we were actually lining them as I've seen them chase the marshmallows to shore before. More of a reaction response maybe, like a bass eating a senko. It's definitely debatable. Sounds like you had fun anyway, that's what counts.

Awesome report.. I just can't believe that it looks like fall up there! Still summer down here, lol

Headed out tonight hoping for some brook trout before the season closes. It's funny, I live about a block away from 3 brook trout spots yet I rarely visit them. A can of worms and a few hooks & sinkers and I was set to go. It seems that all that wanted to bite tonight was bugle mouth trout, aka white suckers. I caught about 6 of them in various holes along the creek. They hit and fought just like trout, so I wasn't complaining too much. Here's an interesting pic though. I guess they recently stocked the creek with brood stock specks, because one spot under a culvert was just loaded. I managed to snap one good pic of just a few of the thousands I was seeing. Great to see. This particular creek can be an awesome brook trout spot at times thanks to the local stocking program.
