  1. I whole heartedly agree Fishingnut
  2. Sugarpacket, "Splenda" and I headed out locally today with hopes of just catching something in the mighty Lynn. I brought the noodle rod, cuz I figured even chubs put up a fight on it. lol Sugarpacket scored with the first fish of the day, a scrappy white sucker, but before we could get a picture it scuttled back into the water. I started carp fishing after seeing a carp nearby. And, then came the weirdness. I've heard of carp while trout fishing, but not trout while carp fishing. This little brown decided to hit a hook and corn still fished in the river. After apparently singing it a serenade, I sent it back into the depths. Good to see some resident browns in the area! Splenda tried his hand at fishing, but he was more interested in sleeping than fishing today. After a few chubs and suckers we headed to a new spot and Splenda went to grandma & grandpa's house. The target here was steelhead, but us and the other anglers in the area just couldn't buy a bite. Bottom bouncing and float fishing just wouldn't produce. So yet again we moved spots and I showed Sugarpacket my favourite fall bass tactic. Jigging and dragging the bottom. It wasn't long before she was into one. Minutes later, she was into another one, and this one would have been her PB. I got a good look and I'd say it was over 3lbs. But alas, right at the surface the hook popped out and back went Mr. Bass. Then it was my turn. I got into a little bass and a bunch of WGSF, which excited me to no ends. That was that for the day. It was a great day of fishing with the best company I could possibly have out there. Too bad Sugarpacket lost the big one but there will be many more days in the future for her to hook 'im. Next comes deer season lol jk I'm no hunter and that's no real gun.
  3. NICE! Still making me jealous!
  4. Hey you gave it a shot! I find at this time of year the only ways to get them are bottom bouncing worm harnesses super slow and bottom bouncing Rapala J-9's. Jigging can produce if you happen to fall on a school but otherwise movement is the key. God I wish I could get out there but things look bleak.
  5. No waiting involved buddy! I stalk them in the creek just like stalking salmon or steel. When I spot a fish, I throw a handful of corn upstream to get them feeding, then toss my corn just a little closer than the chum. It's awesome to sight fish carp, way better than still fishing IMO
  6. I've hooked them early, late and through the night. Get on 'em!
  7. The water has cooled, and the carp behavior reflected that today as I hit the mighty Lynn. 2/2 was the score today using canned corn. If I tried anything else, the chub minnows were all over it. The cold water pushed carp to the slowest backwaters and in behind logjams. I had to sneak up really low and walk through some brush to get close to any. Lots of fun when I finally did hook one in those conditions. Creek carpin' is fun, and similar to steelheading, but it's not quite cutting it for me. I think I need to make a trip for steel soon!
  8. Haha, that is awesome!
  9. Grocery store is good.. salmon are done man.
  10. Not too sure about your weight estimations, but great fish nonetheless!
  11. This was Ethan's first halloween and we all got in the spirit. he didn't get out trick or treating but he helped us hand out candy to the few neighbourhood kids that stopped by. Sugarpacket dressed up as a fisherman, which really turned my crank LOL SLAP that should be a Busch can! After a while of fishing in Simcoe duck park I managed this fish. Typical colors for a sewage outflow fish. LOL Sugarpacket couldn't wait to get it home and eat it. Looks tasty! lol, happy halloween everyone!
  12. Johnny, e-mail me your reports! You are and always have been one of my favourite reporters to read about their outings! I missed your post, but I'm sure it was deleted because of others' stupid comments. Don't let 'em get to ya.
  13. Egg sinker, 1/2 oz or whatever you feel necessary to get to the fish. Then a barrel swivel. From there attach a 2-3 foot lead of flourocarbon (absolutely necessary if you're still-fishing as the fish have far more time to inspect the roe bag). Then a small hook and your roe bag. Experiment using floaters or non-floaters, and different colors of roe bags. White is my personal fav. Cast out, stick your rod in the holder and sit back. They will smack it a few times before they take it most of the time. If you get a smack and nothing after about 30 seconds, reel the roe bag about 10 inches along the bottom and continue waiting. Sometimes it will trigger an aggressive strike. This is the setup I use on Lake Erie tributary mouths. Oh yeah, use a long rod. A 7 footer won't do. At least 9 is necessity.
  14. Wow. Who cares if you wet a line just seeing that would be good enough!
  15. Nice ones!
  16. Nice work and congrats on your first!
  17. Can't complain with a carp like that! Nice work!
  18. Well I just got the one today. Fished a spot I haven't fished since I was a kid and lo and behold right there at my feet was this girl. Fighting them in the creeks sure is a rush, especially when they go for the overhanging trees, logjams or rockpiles. Still determined to find a 20lber in the Mighty Lynn!
  19. Gamakatsu makes worm hooks large enough for Sluggos. I got mine locally at Rotten Ronnies Bait and Tackle in Long Point. And yes, muskie love to destroy them.
  20. From what I understand there is a gate at the carp traps that they open up in the late fall until early spring so that the runs can continue.
  21. Yes that would be the main bullet point of this presentation.
  22. Gotta love those goby fed southern girls Nice job!
  23. I'm lovin' it FinS.. This will be it's 2nd season and I think it works just great. Since I don't float fish that often (maybe more often now!) I don't see a point in upgrading. I also like my new Browning Six Rivers rod.. much better than the old Quantum Cold Water I had last year. A little shorter though but that comes in handy on the smaller creeks. Thanks for the comments guys hopefully sometime this week I will do a more in-depth report on how to float fish for carp. It's really similar to steelheading in shallow creeks. Sight fishing them with worms or doughballs.. I bet a roe bag would even work, lol
  24. Who needs steelhead! I think I'll be targetting carp for most of the fall with that float rod. What an awesome fight!
  25. Last night was not bad, not great either.
