  1. I wouldn't even begin to consider a spinning reel for trolling , especially where riggers, wire, leadcore or dipsies are concerned.
  2. Got one too, great vehicle, can't understand why GM dropped it, would replace it with another in a heartbeat.
  3. Great fishin Don't get then like that down the other end of the lake from a boat. But I've fished the north shore Erie tribs now for 50 years now and they have never been better, good number get lost.
  4. It's like I have 2 very different fishing personalities. There is the C&R personality when fishing bass, carp, catfish, musky, pike, trout and salmon. Now whenever I target walleye, crappie and perch, I do so for a feed and freezer, if the fishing on Erie is hot, I'll let walleyes over about 5/6 pounds go amd keep the 3/4 pounders, better eating. That being said, when rigging on Lake Ontario, Cohoes under 10 go in the box, they are for me the best of the salmonoids/trout for the grill or smoker. The status of the freezer determines the walleye expiditions.
  5. Here's a couple of MNR reports for the Haliburton area, could be useful for you and others. Spent alot of time there while my folks had a place there. Since it is gone haven't gone back but know a lot of spots. http://www.haliburtoncounty.ca/fishingchart.pdf http://home.cogeco.ca/~sparkysfishin/Stock%20Lists/Minden%20Haliburton2008.pdf Dave
  6. I'm kinda like Lew, fished heavy since age of before 10, bought a fancy over and under shotgun at 16 with my summer earnings at 16, didn't get married till a few months shy of 50, worked a lot of years to support my fishin' and huntin' habit, bought LOTS of HIGH quality gear, now I just maintain what I've got since I've retired.
  7. Believe this was posted here before, lots of eyes here. Can't hardly believe they can fish with a gill net and be so selective. We get lots of sheephead when angling Think there's a lot more to professional commercial fishing than the average angler thinks. I've fished Erie now for over 50 years, its as good or better than it's ever been, 70's were really a bust, lot of people thought it would never recover. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YG3mTKSiyx0&feature=related
  8. Quite some time ago, when I lived there , we used to get them surf casting on the Lake Erie side of Long Point, did well right up until the opening of duck season. We used 9 foot lighter salt water spinning rigs an 2-3 oz pyramid sinkers to hold in the sand. Wade out, there is often a small shallow bar a few yards off shore, cast and then set your rod in a holder onshore. This was not an early spring fishery though, we always assumed thesse were fish that spawned in the Otter River. Could be worth a try, evening was best.
  9. My folks had a place on Loon Lake in Haliburton, the fishing was pretty decent over the 20 or so years they had the place , but not been there in over 10 years. It was a multi species lake, bass, walleye, lakers and muskie, might fit the bill for you. http://www.ourlakes.ca/loon%20lake%20july%2016%202010.pdf
  10. Back then the rules stated a max of 150HP. for the pro bass tournies. There were quite a few motors made that had 150 decals on them but were conservatively rated. It seemed that some prescribed to the NASCAR motto " if your not cheatin' you ain't tryin'" Guess rather than deal with the infractions they just eliminated the restriction.
  11. Had some excellent steelheading in the first couple of hours of rain if fairly light after a dry spell. Get to the lower few pools on a system gets real good as the flow starts to colour and rise a bit. Usually a tailout fisherman but the head of the pools is often better in this situation.
  12. Loved to park right under the QEW back then , work upstream into the then new Prov. Park, lottsa browns and probably my personal best river bow came from that stretch, almost everyone else went downstream . After a couple of holes you were mostly alone and under a beautiful old growth forest canopy. Mostly fished there after Nov 1st though and the salmon were gone for the most part.
  13. Did you check the fluid level? Often it is just Dextron ATF, check your manual. Top it up and raise and lower the motor manually a few times, refill again if necessary. Don't do it with the power unit as it will create bubbles if it is low, you don't want them. OH! to fill put the motor at the top position and the manual stop in place. Have had to top up a few times over the years.
  14. Looks like a domestic goose that escaped, " Greylag Goose " they will interbreed with Canadas, had one cross around here for years, it flys good too.
  15. Yes, I've had a foodsaver from Costco for years, older model with two levels of suction, use it for everything, garden produce, meat on sale... always repackage dumping the thin plastic and foam tray and absorbent pad from the grocery store, fish, wild game. Greatly improves the freezer life and quality over the long term.
  16. Let me ask, how are you putting the line on the reel in the first place? If done incorrectly you could be shooting yourself in the foot before the first cast.
  17. Another why, the only winner here will be the taxman
  18. Go Port Colborne and fish east to Fort Erie, they'll be moving to deeper humps a little ways offshore soon, dropshot
  19. I have an older Hi8 camera as well, what I used to get it on a computer is one of these, BTW you go directly from the camera to the computer, no DVD recorder step. Also if you plug your old vcr into it, you can make digital copies of irreplaceable old VHS tapes as well http://www.usb-ware.com/ads-dvd-xpress.htm edit: do to google snooping through recent searches on my PC , it threw this ad up on the forum header, looks like a more recent version of the ads type converter, does essentially the same thing in a lot smaller package without the need for a separate power supply. http://www.roxio.com/enc/products/easy-vhs-to-dvd/standard/overview.html?gclid=CKDdqePPwqMCFUf75wodhWCfcw
  20. I frequent the " Tractor Supply Company " TSC store here in town, they seem to have a lot of smaller trailers designed for garden tractors or ATV's I assume. Might be a good place to look.
  21. I think you'll be disappointed, that's only going to get you down 30'. You're fishing from a kayak if I recall. I'd run the lead core on a trolling outfit instead. The only decent home made riggers I ever saw were made by a very experienced 20+ years tool and die maker/ pattern maker with a milling machine, drill press, metal lathe and metal band saw in a home work shop. Even at that he used Big John pullies and scrounged his employer for quality materials. just sayin
  22. Starting out, I would go with something economical as you are probably going to start side casting and it gets twisted pretty fast and you'll need to respool. Limper lines are better for side casting, maybe Trilene XL or Ande would fit the bill here. Eventually I recommend highly you get into a Wallis or pull cast style, a stiffer line like Trilene XT or Maxima type lines are my prefernce at this stage of the game. These aren't the only lines you can use but indicative of the type of line you are looking for. Hope this helps.
  23. Quite a few lodges and resorts cater to hunters that time, maybe look for places that offer hunting packages in the fall once fishing is wound down. Think there's a few Kawartha, St Lawrence River and Lake St Clair resorts with duck hunting packages, might be a good bet.
  24. I'm not an electrician, but I have done 4 fan/light combos in my home, all with switches for the light, three were retrofitting an existing light fixture and one was a new installation in the middle of the living room when I got a gas fireplace. All are wired the same, so the fan is allways live to the pull chain and the light is switched by the light switch, the pull chain for it is left on. I would say what we need to do is identify the pair of wires that go to the light switch, is that possible ? is there attic access ? What I've done is connect the black from the switch alone to the blue light wire, I then put a black band with marker on the white wire from the switch for future reference at the fan electrical box, connect all your black wires and the black banded wire together and the white wires together , guess the ground doesn't come in play here as it is only a 2 wire circuit. That should take care of it if I understand the problem correctly. edit: I'm assuming the only wire going to the switch is the one dropped down a wall from the fan and there is not any run direct fron the fuse / breaker box.
  25. If you are getting power to the fuse panel, then maybe the buss strip connecting the individual fuse holders to the contacts that are connected to your battery have a problem, is it a copper trace on a board, maybe cracked?
