  1. Why isn't there a kayak on the roof?
  2. Well done tybrad, now you'll have to try the Speed river and the Nith river. I know you've already fished the Grand. We do live in an excellent location for river fishing. Keep the reports coming.
  3. I've never caught anything on those jointed canadian wigglers. Maybe I'll have to target crappie with them next time.
  4. Maybe some good deals on Lodges and cottage resorts on the Nip in the future.
  5. I usually go before bass season and target crappies with tiny 1/16oz jigs and 1" grubs. There are some big crappies in there. If you have a fishfinder try and locate the original creek channel. Then work your way shallower with a flippin' jig or a tube jig. There are stumps in over 20ft of water at Shade's, it's just a matter of finding them. There will be a few Bass on the stumps at some depth. No pike leaders or swivels and either light line or flouro to keep the stealth factor in your favour. Shades is a great little lake, right in the city, that feels like you are somewhere far from civilization. This was a kayaking trip with my daughter at Shades on July 2/10.
  6. Great report and pics 24/7. Quebec is probably the best place to catch big bass in Canada. I see lots if giant smallies caught in Q on the Yakfishing.net site too. One WARNING though. That pic where all your rods are propped up against the tree trunk. I realize that's the best way to protect them from getting stepped on but if the weather turns ugly, lay them down somewhere safe away from the trees. I had 3 rods leaning like that on an old white pine, 15yrs ago while camping on the Bonnechere River near Barry's Bay. A thunderstorm blew in and the tree was struck by lightning. Two of my rods exploded when the current travelled through them, blowing the resin off and leaving only graphite fibres. They looked like horsetails with reel seats. The 3rd rod was fiberglass and was knocked over but still in perfect condition. Oh ya, and the reels on the zapped rods had all the grease and oil burned off and the handles were welded in and couldn't be removed.
  7. Just remember that if you are towing people on tubes, if you pull them within range of fishermen, they are fair game to cast at .
  8. I think at Puslinch lake, you have to show a "Morons Card" just to get on the lake, or be a part of the waterskiing fraternity.
  9. If you pay $5 you can enter the conservation area and have hundreds of opportunities for shore fishing. Well worth the money.
  10. Was he a screamer?
  11. I think a lot of those parked there are dogwalkers just enjoying the view without paying the day use fee. A kayak is the way to go on Guelph lake and there are large crappies and perch in there as well as some good sized pike.
  12. Wearing a lifejacket is not a problem. I promised my 10yr old daughter that I'll always wear my lifejacket when I'm in my kayak, if she promises to wear her helmet whenever she's on her bike or scooter. Good deal for both of us.
  13. Glad everyone involved is OK and the runaway boat didn't cause any bodily harm to other nearby competitors. I've never heard of this happening at a kayak fishing tournament though .
  14. I don't use the fish symbols or the fish alarm. I mainly concentrate on the depth and bottom composition. Having the surface temp is a bonus, I guess.
  15. I'll tell you what Black Blade, if you haven't found one in a week or two, send me a PM and I'll pick one up and mail it up to you. I'll be away at the rental cottage until the end of July. When I get back I'll check my PM's. Send me your address and I'll make sure you have it as soon as possible.
  16. Here is mine. Can't beat the $.99 price tag. It holds the pliers, cutters and you can see the spreader in behind. It came in handy today on Pigeon lake to unhook this puppy. It was 37" long and hit my bucktail right after the thunderstorms started.
  17. I bought a 6pack of Old Mill at the Ramada across from MLG during the beer strike and paid $22. That stands as the most ripped off I've ever been.
  18. I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow when I'm out fishing. All my gear is in the trunk at the moment. It only cost me $.99 so I bought one for my bro too.
  19. Nice bass Toddy. We used to joke that were more fish on the walls at Elephant lake lodge than there was left in the lake. Did you hear of any musky or walleye caught by anyone while you were there?
  20. Last case of beer I bought cost me $9.75 and the last pack of smokes was $1.85. You would think I'd be rich with all the money I've saved since 1984.
  21. I bought mine at KW surplus in Kitchener. It holds my 12" needlenose pliers, my 8" bolt cutters and my jaw spreader. Look at your local hardware store's tool aisle.
  22. I stay at Camp Ashtabula not far from Elim and we've caught musky right off their docks. When it gets windy we hide in the Blind channel just past Elim because it is slightly protected from most west winds. Try some spinnerbaits in that area and you'll catch everything from bass to walleye to musky. Just watch out for all the boats dragging kids on innertubes and waterskis.
  23. Yep Frankie that was caught within Kitchener city limits. The biggest Kitchener grand walleye I've seen before this one was only 19" and that was in 2008. They are not exactly abundant up in this stretch of the grand.
  24. Just throw bucktails along weedlines, or troll perch imitations as close to the weeds as you can without getting snagged. The usual depth where the weeds stop growing in Pigeon is around 12ft deep. Any shallower than that and the weeds will be thick. I will be at Pigeon the second to last week of July and will be hunting musky in my kayak. If you have any other question send me a PM.
  25. I have only been out after Bass in Kitchener once since the season opened. Had no luck either. Did manage this 25.5" walleye on June 15/10 in Kitchener while crappie fishing, out of my kayak, in the Grand river.
