  1. That is a nice walleye Jeff, good to see. Good job on releasing it as well. I know how tough it can be to let a tasty fish go.
  2. I'm happy for Hal Gill, good to see the big guy hoist the cup. As for the rest of them...nothing good to say.
  3. That is like what's going on in Phoenix. Canadian journalists were asking people on the street about losing the Coyotes. More than half of them didn't know that Phoenix had a NHL francise.
  4. Call them lame fighters but good tasting. My answer to this question is always the same. Take 7 of them on a stringer to a C.O. and see what the ticket reads. I'll bet you the words pickeral or pickerel won't be on there anywhere. It will say "exceeding the daily limit for walleye".
  5. I checked the hourly weather report for Guelph on theWeatherNetwork.com, and saw that they expected the rain to start in the late afternoon, early evening. So when I loaded up my kayak on the shore of Guelph lake at 1pm, I left the rainsuit in the trunk. The wind was NE15km/h, so I starting trolling against the wind. After an hour I had paddled about 2km from the car and planned on casting and drifting all the way back. Then it started to rain shortly after 2pm. I knew I wasn't going to get back to the car in a hurry so I kept fishing. I was throwing a 1/8oz white jig & grub on a steel leader hoping to catch pike when I caught my PB perch. It was 12" long and had shoulders. I caught two other perch and an oos smallmouth all within the first half hour of the rainstorm after getting no hits before the rain. Then it really came down hard and although it was a warm rain I was totally soaked to the skin. I had to troll back to the car then because when the rain started the wind stopped. Had no action from the pike and packed it in at 3:30pm. Lesson for the day...always take your rain gear with you, it can't do it's job in the trunk. Last time I was at Guelph lake, I left my camera in the trunk and caught a 29" pike.
  6. Here is the security cable... Here it is in use. You can also lock the ball in the trunk or hatchback. I wind it around the two crossbars in my canoe/kayak hybrid then put it in the door.
  7. Welcome aboard, this is the best place on the net for Ontario fishing. We are a big family here, sometimes a little disfunctional like most families, but that's expected. Good luck on the MOOn. Are you targetting muskies?
  8. If you must try for musky with the little one, I would suggest trolling for them. When I musky fish with the wife and daughter in the boat and hook one, first thing I do is get the wife to put the daughter up in the front of the boat. This way if a lure gets thrown she'll be safe. Then I take the fight to the back of the boat and deal with the fish alone while the wife gets the camera ready. I'll unhook it over the water, if possible, then grab a quick photo. Then while I revive it for release my daughter comes into the middle of the boat and sometimes holds the tail while it gets it's strength back. She's 8yrs old. If I were you I'd go after the crappies with worms under bobbers for a 5yr old.
  9. Here's one for you Polliwog. http://www.trader.ca/Search/Details.asp?mk...;ADS=7743075%7C
  10. I'll take a pic of my security cable next time I have the kayak on. I bought it at a canoe & kayak store in Bracebridge, Muskoka Outfitters, but I'm sure many places stock these.
  11. You can also put the cable end with the ball on it inside your trunk and lock it if that is more convenient.
  12. Try 15lb Fireline, it's the same diameter as 6lb mono.
  13. Buy a Backroads Mapbook of your area. They sell them at Crappy tire. Go exploring, I'm sure you'll find lots of places to shorefish.
  14. Congrats on your first ski, hopefully the first of many.
  15. First answer, you don't stop them from pulling you around, that's half the fun. We yakfishers call it "going for a sleigh ride". For security I have a nylon coated cable that has a loop at one end and a ball on the other. You loop it through your yak wherever you can, put the ball through the loop and hang the cable end with the ball on it so it is inside your car when you lock your door. They make them for whitewater kayaks but they work on others as well. This way you don't need a lock. Nomad is hosting a river run later this summer. If anyone is interested check out Yakfisher.net.
  16. Booby Orr first choice then Ray Bourque second. To answer your question, I'd take Lidstrom before Stevens.
  17. Coming next will be a surcharge based on the size of the motor you are running and e-tests every two years to make sure you aren't polluting excessively. Then maybe making more lakes "No Gas Motors Allowed".
  18. I think there are largemouth and black crappie in there as well as WGSF and pumpkinseed.
  19. If you have to buy a Ford, buy a used one. They don't hold their value, wonder why, and at least if you buy one with 100,000km on it, all the crap that will go wrong in the first couple of years has already gone wrong. You can get a 2005 or 2006 for under $10,000.
  20. Why don't you try tube jigs? In shallow clear water nothing beats a pumpkinseed tube for smallies. And when you snag them up you're only out about a buck instead of $8-$10 for a rapala or other crankbait. Having fished the Grand river for years with tubes, I can tell you that they absolutely love them. They look like the soft shell crayfish that is the smallies #1 favourite food.
  21. Maybe the greatest songwriter and poet Canada has ever produced.
  22. Today they predicted 15km/h for Bobcaygeon and it hit 31km/h by 12noon. My boat is 12'2" and only weighs 36lbs so wind can ruin my day.
  23. I always thought that the island was owned by first nations people.
  24. My buddy has a 12' transom model he wants to sell because he just got laid off two weeks ago. Comes with a trailer, two quick release swivel seats, sailing kit as well as drink holders. I'm not sure if he intends to include a trolling motor and battery or not. When he gets it figured out I'll post something in Classifieds.
  25. I met up with OFC'er ricoboxing and a couple of my buddies and we hit Sturgeon lake. Rico and I were in our kayaks and my buddies were in their Sportspal. Rico had the first fish on, a 38" musky he caught on a Magnum musky killer. After clipping a Magnum on my leader I had a bite. Didn't fight very well and I saw why when I got it to the boat. It was an 18" walleye that would have made a nice meal but I released it to swim another day. Then I hooked a 27" musky on a Giant killer bucktail. I caught another ski that was only 24" but that was all for the day. Final score: kayaks-3 musky and a walleye. Sportspal-1 perch 12".
