This weeks syrup haul It aint much but its good and my kids learnt a bit about putting in time and effort to get results Hopefully the trees run more this week

Got 2 gallons of sap today Also located 1 sugar maple on our property It's not really running yet tho but I can taste the difference in the sap

Well walleye, pike and perch will be open in May... lol Montreal is a great city to explore but can be tricky to navigate unless you have a good map person (my wife is terrible) Lots of really good places to eat

After doing some research I believe we tapped silver maples Gunna go down tomorrow and see if I can find any sugar maples (now that I know what I'm looking for)

Also hours don't tell the full story Hours at RPM tells more My motor had 1200 hours in 3 years but like 800-900 were under 1000 rpm cause o troll walleye a lot... 1200 hours at 5500 rpm is a big difference

Good day So as we all have a bit of cabin fever the family decided to make a bit of maple syrup Looked and found that home hardware sells a 5 pail kit with taps and lids for $40... For $40 I figure it's about the same as going to the movies so if we have some outdoor fun and get a few litres of syrup it'll be money well spent So we got the kit and tapped some trees at our cottage We put 2 pails on the biggest maple and single pails on 3 other smaller maples... all the smaller trees were running fast enough right away but the big maple didn't give up a drop... I'm going to go check Wednesday to see how things are flowing and relocate pails if they aren't producing... cause if that big maple doesn't produce that's 40% of my production lol I'm not even sure what kind of maples they are... if I understand right it doesn't matter what kind of maple but anything other than sugar maple requires more sap to get a litre of syrup... 40:1 sugar maple and 60:1 other maples Anyone have any tips? I've been told not to add to much sap to the pot at a time cause you dont wanna lose your boil If I get a litre every Sunday when we boil I'll be pretty happy with that Thanks Mike

If it's under 100 hours per year old your doing good in my opinion If it's under 50 hours per year it's a gem Anything more than 100 hours per year requires multiple oil changes per year and most guys I know only change oil once a year... that's why I think under 100 per year is ok

Good evening everyone So I have decided to enter the local opening day pike tournament this year I hear it's a really fun day with a great turnout But I don't often target pike... I know some spots and have a couple go to baits but I was wondering what you all like to throw for pike The pike here are mostly 4-8 pounds but to have a shot at prize money you gotta break 10 pounds My 2 go to baits are a HJ14 shallow husky jerk in various colors and white soft plastic minnows 6" rigged weightless for the shallowest spots Target depth (I think) will be 1-12 feet of water So if you don't mind sharing... what to you use for spring pike?

From what I've seen they prefer to be under the ice for some reason

I can put a rear platform and my tiller would have clearance still... the platform would be behind my drivers seat to the backboard If I make one that crosses the centre of the boat yes I would have to step over it on my way to the bow

Hey gang So I'm strongly considering making the back of my boat more comfortable for whoever is casting back there when I go for bass or musky or even jigging walleye I have a 16 foot tiller with what I would call a standard layout Splash well in the back... gap... pedestal seat... gap... pedestal seat... gap... front deck There is a "deck" that goes all around the boat that's about 10-12 inches wide that the removable addition would rest on I figure my 2 options are 1- build a deck that will cover the gap at the back of the boat between the drivers seat and the motor (bad for rod storage as they usually hang out the back of the boat) 2- build a deck in the middle of the boat between the 2 pedestals Anyone on here build there own removable casting deck? Pictures? Tips? You gotta imaging Fisherpete in the back of my boat in 3 foot waves doing battle with a chunky upper 40" musky with only 12 inches of footing to his disposal lol Thanks

Still no 500 lefty is a slap in the face in my opinion There are lots of 300 and even a few 400 size lefties on the market already... curado 300s... Calcutta 400s... corvalus... Cardiff... all from shimano already... I'm really disappointed
