  1. Dropped a giant walleye last fall.... I was targeting walleye and hooked up with 2 musky in 20 minutes.... When I felt the weight again I thought I had my 3rd musky in 30-40 minutes.... As I was targeting large fall walleye... Believe it or not I was getting frustrated with these musky... So I tried shaking it off.... No go... So I turned the boat around and horsed the fish up under the boat.... Then I saw it.... The white tip.... It was a GIANT walleye.... My knees started to wobble as I reached for the net... As I leaned over I felt my rod go slack... I leaned over the side of the boat and watched what would probably be the biggest walleye I'll ever see swim down to the depths... I almost puked... It was one of the worst feelings I ever had in my life.... My PB is 12lbs... This fish would have SHATTERED that.... But now I know where she will (hopefully) be this year... And im gunna grind those stones so hard it'll be 2 feet deeper by Christmas.... Lol
  2. Once I realized what flossing was and that i was snagging fish I tried this... Like Bill said... Golf ball size..... I used an egg loop knot and a big hunk of skein under a float... Landed 4 salmon in no time first time trying it... The key for me was the egg loop knot.... And leave your hook as exposed as possible.... The idea of driving 3 hours to snag fish put me off... So I wanted to catch em legit.... And seeing a tiny float drop on fish that large.... Oh baby... Nice thing was... My wife could do it... She caught 2 in a few hours...
  3. Fish calendar It shows the "bite windows" Sunrise/sunset time Moonrise/moon set time
  4. I was told at 100/1 some had issues... I had a 9.9 that said 100/1 and I mixed 50/1... Never had a problem... Didn't really smoke
  5. Trust me.... They work great... Especially anywhere there's gobies.... They destroy worms... But not the gulp
  6. So for the first time this year i manage to get myself and 2 buddies in the boat to go for a big numbers day of summer walleyes... The plan was troll... Troll ... Troll... As usual... We were rigged with deep diving minnow baits as well as worm harnesses on 3 way rigs tipped with gulp... We headed out just after noon... Lines in around 1pm... Or what magazines would say isn't a good time to fish... Well... Not the case... We had a 12 fish limit of nice walleye in 2.5 hours... From 100-330pm... And no... We weren't deep... All fish were in 12-20 feet of crystal clear water... The walleye were biting so well that at one point we had a double header on the harnesses and I had to put my rod in the holder and stop the boat to net the 2 fish... I got the 2 walleye in the net at the same time... Sit down... Lift my rod outta the holder... Fish on... Lol... It picked it up off the bottom while I was netting the other fish.... After that We headed to a local marina/restaurant for some burgers to fuel us up for the long trip I had planned... We bounced around after that picking up one here and one there... Got one on a new spot...that is always great... Then just as it gets dark (not kinda dark... I'm talking black....) I decided to try a spot... I haven't got a single walleye there all year... But my gut told me to try it... We pulled 10 walleye outta this spot in about 1-1.5 hours.... All fish were 3+ lbs and 2 were 27" And 7-8lbs...We were just at the right place at the right time.... We finished the night with 28 walleye boated and a handful of smallies... One around 4lbs... Dropped about 10 fish easily... Well... One of us did.... Lol We were giggling like little kids all night... Lol... I'm just glad I was with great friends when I hit this awesome day.... Here's a few highlights...
  7. Paid 95 cents/liter yesterday... Woot woot... 5 days of walleye bashing... Woot woot... And last weekend for 90+% of people on the water.... Woooooot wooooooot..... It's the most... Wonderful time.... Of the year.... There'll be musky a feeding... And Walleye a fryin... And Smallies a schooliiiiiiiin.... It's the most... Wonderful time.... Of the year....
  8. Good to know... BTW... What a cutie
  9. Was you line not attached to the spool....????
  10. That's how I do it.... Fillets in water... No air in the bag.... Last a long time in the freezer...
  11. I believe that's a different species.... The famed jumping Asian carp and grass carp are 2 different species as far as I know... There's 1-2 grass carp caught in the long sault parkway each year....
  12. Not crazy... I have $200-$300 in brand new baits sitting in a drawer... If I hit a rash of musky while walleye fishing I can go through 2-3 cranks in a day....
  13. All my top baits for everything I target are mainstream baits available at most shops... Some are rare colors or custom painted... But most can be picked up almost anywhere
  14. Oh ok... I wasn't sure... That's an awesome average size.... I wish our average was that big... In the summer our average is around 22-25 inches... Maybe 1-2 over and 1-2 under... The rest are cookie cutters at 3-4lbs....
  15. Just curious... Is it normal to harvest these large walleye on Erie...??? I get my fare share of 25"+ walleye here... But they all go back.... I prefer smaller fish for eating... And that's the general idea here... Most guys release anything over 24-25"... It just seams every report from Erie has a picture of 6-7-8-9 pounders being harvested... I'm in no way trying to bum out your report... Im just curious... It seams weird to me to eat an 8 pounder.... I find this interesting....
  16. That one is "half throttle hell".... Lmao
  17. If smoked right its really good... The First Nations in my area put out set lines for them and sell smoked sturgeon..., I have a friend that is great at smoking... He has stopped me on the water to give me some.... And it never makes it back to shore... You can buy it at a few of the marinas on the reservation...,
  18. I use hi vis line for vertical jigging... Helps me see my line to stay as vertical as possible...
  19. Why protect polar bears?
  20. Ande line has hi via yellow...
  21. Never on my home waters.... Most fishing I do here is 15+ feet of water... Tough to get a musky to charge up that far... But a lot when I'm on trips and its stained/dirty water.... I don't find them as effective as other options... But man it's fun getting smoked on a top water....
  22. Because your not casting... I don't feel like it matters much...
