  1. i have all st.croix premier rods... i had an 8.5 footer X heavy... i found it big and clumsy.... kinda like me...lol... i sold it to buy another 7.5 foot heavy... the 7.5 heavy is a great rod... i have a couple now... now keep this in mind... i dont like throwing big rubber... actually i hate it... i prefer jerkbaits... topwater... and cranks... if you plan on throwing mag dawgs or pounders... you better get a big stick... i would say get an 8 foot heavy... its right in the middle of the pack... then if you dont like it that much... you can go smaller or bigger... that being said... my 7.5 foot st.croix premier with a curado 301e is my favorite combo...
  2. WOW what a pig
  3. Looks like the crankbait version of an erie derie
  4. nice catch fellas... those are some big eyes
  5. Are they ever thick right now... Sweet catch...
  6. Got out AGAIN yesterday for some more fall walleye action... The numbers were low but the size was a bit better... We got 14 walleye and anothe nice bonus musky... Biggest walleye were 5lb 7.2lb and 8.3lb We did everything yesterday... Jig... Troll... Rig/minnow... And all techniques caught fish...
  7. Honestly... To catch lots of fish... You gotta get out as much as you can... It helps you stay on top of what the fish are doing....eating.... And where they are going...
  8. Took the kid to the sitter for the day cause I had some outside chores to do... Got all my chores done early... So my brother got off work early so we could hit the water... We got into walleye right away... We managed to jig up about 50 little walleye... Then at dark we decided to troll up some bigger eyes... First pass... Big bro gets hit... 3-4lb eye... Next pass... BANG... I got slammed hard... After a couple seconds I realized it was no walleye... I had a musky... With the current and winds... We drifted a mile... Literally... Before we could hand land this big musky... Ended up wrapped in the line so I was fighting the fish from behind its head... That's why it was fighting so hard... No tape but it was heavy... Im guessing it was between 45-48 inches... So now back to walleye... We start trolling after the long battle we just had... Manage 3 more between 3-4lbs... Then BANG... I got smoked again!!! I'm thinking I had another musky the way it was fighting... Then as we get it close to the boat I start seeing the fish... Then I see gold... "get the net!!!!!!!!" Big eye... 8lb 14oz So in the end we got 55 walleye and a nice musky... Under 4 hours...
  9. last year my shack was on the ice on dec 24th... 8-10 inches... normally get out dec 15th or so... most years im in my boat and guys are starting to ice fish... so i have no gap in fishing...
  10. we got 25 one day when we were trying to learn how to get lakers... they really like the old hook and minnow set up as well as williams woblers gold and silver half and half hammered finish... about 3 inch spoon with 3 inch shinners they were positioned on the biggest hump on the lake... the hump topped out around 18-20 feet... the bass were in 20-25... no deeper...
  11. pretty much... this time of year the girlfriend knows... if its nice im going... and if its not nice... im still going ... just not as long...
  12. well... i figured id celebrate the USA thanksgiving by catching some Canadian walters... got my brother out tonight for a couple hours... we managed to troll up a bunch of eyes... we went 15 for 18 in 2 hours... all the fish were 18-25 inches... most around the 3-3.5lb range... no pics today... to cold to take pictures of little eyes... this time of year only 7lb+ gets pictures... also... i lost a big fish tonight... not sure if it was a musky or a walleye... felt like a walter... but never got to see it... hook pulled just before i got a look at it..... mike
  13. last winter my boat was in my driveway in the city... mice made it into my floatation and got to the wires for my lights and pumps... im gunna try moth balls as well as bounce sheets... ive been told be people that store campers that they place bounce sheets EVERYWHERE... and in the spring it smells like fresh laundry...
  14. just when i thought the awesomeness was over... an awesome slideshow to finish off an awesome video... nine job dude
  15. It's harder then you think to get one for a 2005 f150 6.5 foot box in my shade of red...lol Also they aren't as versatile as the folding ones... And I don't have a garage to store it in the summer... This is 99% for winter use... Sorry just saw that you said cap... I'm thinking about that as well...
  16. Those look sweet... Starting around 750 for a metal tri fold...
  17. Depends where your fishing roy... In the thousand islands some guys are trolling up to 300 feet back... I know on the Ottawa guys troll with as little as a leader out... But I don't know anybody that has caught a fish in clear water trolling like this... Also depends on how deep you fish... I personally have found patterns trolling parts of the water column...Whether its in my head or there is something to it... Who knows... But I've seen it make a difference and I would never buy a reel for trolling musky without a counter... Especially if you don't require a multi use outfit... I know most days a Muskie doesn't care how deep your lure is running... They will hit a topwater in 20 feet of water... But for those fussy fish or tough days... I believe it makes a difference...
  18. that thing looks huge.... kinda defeats the purpose of a low profile reel...
  19. im looking to get a tonneau cover for my 2005 f-150 6.5 foot box... i cant really afford a new hard one piece...$1000+ so i was thinking a tri fold style made out of a hard material would do... the reason i want one is so i can leave my portable ice shack in my truck instead of emptying all my equipment and carrying it down to the basement... i use my portable every 2 days... so this really turns into a chore... so i need one with a bit of security... i figure a hard material tri fold will take care of that... i can lock my tailgate... i dont really care if a bit of rain or snow gets in... i keep a travel cover on my shack... anyways... im sure lot of OFC members have lots of different kinds of these covers... i also would like to know cost and location purchased... ottawa and montreal would be best... thanks a bunch everyone... mike
  20. lol she already does... i guess im in trouble...
  21. beautiful looking fish... really clean that is a really nice fall... those fish are fat and heavy... thanks for the awesome pics and report....
  22. just wanna throw out a thank you to all the husbands and wives... girlfriends and boyfriends... or anybody else that helps us get out fishing... my fiance is amazing... i lost my job this spring and was pretty depressed... i decided to be a stay at home dad for a while... and i am so happy the way everything went... i get to spend all the time i want with my son... and marissa let me fish as much as anybody could hope for... from the start of may till now... ive been fishing at least 3 times a week.... this has helped me put the time on the water needed to find more spots and figure out new patterns... this has definatly been my best yeaer of fishing... im on pace to break 1000 walleye!!! not to mention all the musky and carp as well.... so to all those people that make these outings possible for me as well as all the other avid fisher-people... thank you...
  23. sorry for your loss mike... the thought of my dad passing never really crossed my mind till i read this post... i imagine its like losing a best friend... but worse... you made me think twice about telling my dad i cant take him fishing cause im taking a buddy instead... FAMILY
