  1. John you and the others might be interested to know this: Of the 50 or so "shakers" I've caught this year, about 75% were wild - adipose fin intact. I would say that if chinooks stalking stopped (which I don't want to happen), the fish are here to stay.
  2. ok, what's up with the music??? i find that more interesting
  3. Thanks, Bigjim.. where do you get the Okuma Blue Diomond?
  4. Copper doesn't interest me. It will require new, huge reel and I am out there most of the time alone.. 75% of the time. Copper is a pain to reel in when it's only you manning the show. I have two rigger rods and leadcore and now I want to add the dipsey. One of my riggers rods will be set up with a SWR this weekend, so I will have a total of 4 potential variations of presentation.
  5. It's a 6' rod and yes, the twilly tip is what I was referring to... Will that rod suffice or is it too short? And as for line counters how about one of those counters you can buy separately? I assume the simply attach to your reel. I suppose I could go out and spend $100+ on a new reel, but I'd rather not.
  6. I also have one of those heavy rods with the cone thingy at the end that is used for metal lines when trolling for lakers... would that be more appropriate?
  7. What do you mean by a "30 size reel"? I have a Penn GTi 320 (in addition to a few other reels). Would that work? I really don't want to spend on more reels. I have to "heavy action" 7' baitcasting/trolling rods that I have used with leadcore. Are we talking the steel line that many people use for lake trout trolling? Is a reel counter necessary? I guess you need one to determine how far back the dipsey is??
  8. Hey folks, For you salmon trollers out there, what type of line do you use as back when using a dipsy and how many yards and pound test?
  9. Lots of natural reproduction.. tons more than people realize
  10. Thanks BL, great info... maybe we'll try both!
  11. Thanks Dave. . . wow the 50's eh? must have been good fishing back then I was hoping some smallies would also co-operate in addition to the muskie and walleye... kids are happy with action - so am i quite frankly I will let you know how we make out... might go by myself first... have to see what the next week or so brings
  12. Nope! Worm and bobber for the past 30+ years... catches everything!
  13. HEY folks, I have not been up to the Kawarthas yet this year. Wanna try some new lakes as I am bringing some guests (3 kids under 10 and my cousin). I've heard Cameron is a decent, fishable lake due to its size. We dont wan trophy stuff... just a good mix of panfish for the kids and some gamefish for the adults. What about Balsam. I heard that there are some good spots around the Park. Any general areas to zero in on? Thanks!
  14. Even if plenty are kept, it's a healthy fishery.. beleive me the catch rates don't impact the fishery.. rather, its the ability of the alewife to stay helthy and strong that determine how many big ones we get each yer.
  15. No pictures yet.. there was another near 40lb caught today! 39.9 what a year it's been so far!!!
  16. He's right, you shouldn't eat lke trout out of lake O - salmon and rainbows are ok in moderation
  17. Well, almost - 39.9lb today off the Scarborough Bluffs This is like the 1980's all over again Gotta be the best salmon fishery in the world
  18. As in don't get to excited or get your hopes up too high... It's an English idiom.
  19. I don't mean to burst you bubble, but the problem with salmon fishing (more than any other type of fishing) is that it can completely change in a matter of hours, let alone days.. they are nomadic creatures and unpredictable. Unlike a walleye or musky, or bass, where you can be pretty certain they're gonna be within a general area (feeding on a shoal in the eve, dropping back to nearby deeper water at mid-day, etc...) salmon might be off the shores of toronto Islands at this moment and in 12 hours they might be frolicking off the shores of Rochester My advice is, don't get your hopes up too high and if you catch something that day, great... but the dedicated salmon guys have plenty of fruitless days, even in a "good year".. those guys who post pictures of big fat salmon go out regularly
  20. King City? you sure about that? It's not on their range map - maybe they're seeing salamanders
  21. Congrats... The world's best salmon fishery, without question...
  22. Is it that good??? I've heard of this stuff but seems a bit gimicky
  23. i've seen (and heard) lots of them.. very common mot often, I come across expired ones...
  24. there have been unconfirmed reports of fish exceeding 50 but the anglers didn't have scales and released the fish... i saw a pcture of one of these fish once and it was huge but.... take that for what it's worth!
  25. there's a 50 out there
