I almost died in a paddleboat a couple of summers ago. They are very tippy with only one person...especially when your drunk buddy sitting on the dock decides to grab a corner. Darn thing flipped over and landed on my head...knocked me cold and gashed me for a dozen stitches. I still remember sinking to the bottom before my friends pulled me out. Sit on top kayaks are much more stable...especially when no beer is in play.

I watched the ceremony on cbc.ca and really enjoyed it. The number of Habs stars that participated was amazing. And it was cool to see the old guys take the ice for a warm-up. Hopefully that is the end of this extended celebration and the current players can focus on winning more games.

Tiger will pass Jack, but he'll never top Wilt. -
Is it just me or is this thread a little dis-joint-ed?

Hey Hab bashers with your Leafs gear...sometimes you win the battle and lose the war. Enjoy last night's success because only one of these clubs will be in the playoffs this year.

I purchased the Humminbird portable 343 fishfinder in 2008 and have been really pleased with its performance...both in terms of the digital display/charts and battery life. I also used it for ice fishing last winter and it thrived in temps so cold I could barely keep the hole from freezing...in a portable hut. I decided to purchase an ice tranducer this past week so that I could mount the regular transducer in the hull of my kayak. This model also includes the flasher option, but I haven't been able to get comfortable with it.

That sceptical horse is sure taking a beating on this one. I don't recall seeing any kayaks on the water in mid-November when I was a kid...it was about 10 degrees and sunny here today.

Congrats and thanks for sharing. From where I'm sitting in downtown TO, you are living the dream...my dream anyway...enjoy!

Hey folks, I was in LeBaron's today looking for a new baitcasting rod and reel combo to take to the Attawapiskat River next July. The guy there was very helpful in making a couple of suggestions and helping me to understand the different features and benefits. I wasn't sure in the moment so I decided to continue my research instead of pulling the trigger on a purchase. Here's my question: What baitcasting rod and reel would you recommend to cast and troll medium sized lures for large pike? I've got a 7 foot, two piece St. Croix heavy-fast spinning rod with a Quantum Catalyst PTi spinning reel, but I'm concerned about the reel being able to handle bigger fish. Any and all constructive responses would be appreciated. Thanks, Yakpiker

22 MONSTERS in 4 hours!! Niagara baby!! Are you ready for the best?

That's rich, Ultima316...something about the pot calling the kettle comes to mind. What was the purpose of introducing the fish drawing to this thread? -

Got to love the enthusiasm in Bassive's post. The fish count was accurate, but the number of fishing days, well... I've added the pics for your viewing pleasure. Yakpiker -
I got tired of paying $60 a month for cable and decided to switch to a digital antenna (rabbit ears). Living on the shoreline of Lake Ontario and facing south, I can pick up about a dozen HD channels for FREE. Any prime time shows that I miss are usually available over the internet from the CBC, CTV, or Global websites. This works for me and saves about $1000 in "before tax" income each year...that's money to spend on fishing trips.

I've got an older Mustang model...think it's an Integrity...great for warmth above the ice...hope to never find out how buoyant it is...definitely scores low for style.

I watch regular season hockey with the volume turned down while browsing the internet. It's all been said once you've played and watched enough hockey over the years. Things get interesting in the playoffs depending on how your team is doing.

Anywhere along the waterfront from Bathurst to Yonge Streets is pretty much parkland/public grounds and suitable for fishing...look for the green weedbeds and you might find pike.
-
IMHO...this late in the season, save yourself some time and coin by fishing along harbourfront instead of taking the ferry to the island...bring a net with a handle in case you get lucky...try fishing the island in the spring

Congrat's on your two catches...especially the nice looking brown...your effort was rewarded.

That pike looks like a lap-full...I found that carrying a net made it a lot easier to catch and release fish from my Hobie. Congrats on your first year of yakking!

Very entertaining...thanks for sharing! Are you using some type of hands-free camera for the video footage?

Wow...I think a fishing cabin in north-west Ontario needs to be added to my retirement plan. Those are some beautiful fish...congrats!

I think bass boats with big motors go too fast already...especially when they are heading in the direction of a kayak. Hopefully, there is more to this story than just HP. Reducing fuel consumption and emissions would be great.

Attawapiskat River Adventure ~ Quest For Giant Pike
yakpiker replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
With all of the views and replies for Solopaddler's fantastic report, I'm wondering... how many members HAVE BOOKED or will DEFINITELY BE BOOKING a fishing trip with Eddie for next year? I'm working with a buddy to put together a fishing trip and we are considering this as a potential destination. We're sensitive to the fact that this is a new business venture and would like to get a better sense of overall demand and any risks that might exist. Thanks! -
I haven't seen or heard of a musky in the Toronto Islands during the last couple of years anyway. I asked the same question to the Toronto Region Conservation Authority guys who were shocking/sampling the fish around the islands last week.
-
Scugog was a tough place to fish this morning...nice, calm water but rather murky...we trolled spinners and hard baits for musky, dragged worms for walleye, and flipped senkos for bass and came up empty handed...not even a bite. The rain rolled in around 1 pm and we called it a day.

Very good form on that tackle...no hesitation and stuck his face right into the water...great fish too! I saw a fisherman dragged off the rocks by a salmon at Port Credit one year...my buddy hauled the old guy out, but they lost the fish.
