  1. Pardon my ignorance here, still fairly new at this but aren't most of the fish you guys caught out of season?
  2. Coincidently I'm heading out that way with my GF tomorrow as well. I've never fished the Grand either but heading out there based on the recommendations of a few people from this forum. We don't really have a spot in mind either, just gonna wing it and drive along the system till we find something we like. Gonna be sure to bring along the GPS! Maybe we'll run into each other. Good Luck!
  3. Thanks for all the great advise guys! I will definitely take my time to look into some of these options!
  4. So after I posted up a picture asking everyone how much they think the bass I caught weighed, I had an unnamed person PM me asking where abouts on the lake I caught it. I shared the exact location with this person and then thought it would be a good time to ask for a good shore fishing spot in return (I know people don't like to give up their spots but I've had a heck of time looking already.) I didn't even get a thank you in return, let alone a location. I guess for all the helpful people on this board I'm bound to run into ass's like that as well. The funny thing is, I see the same guy asking other people for advise... So... This is a pitty plea, not trying to cover it up. I'm a newbie angler that's been renting a boat almost every weekend and my pockets aren't getting any deeper if you know what I mean. So for me to continue fishing I need to find a decent spot to continue refining my skills and trying lures and so forth since continuing to rent a boat every weekend isn't feasible. If anyone here know's of a spot I can work for a day and even come up with a bass or 2, not looking for anything crazy, it would be much appreciated if you can PM me. I live in the GTA and am willing to drive upwards to 1.5hrs. Thanks in advance and a big thank you to everyone who has already filled me with a wealth of new information from my last post.
  5. Thanks for clarifying. I can't believe how much I didn't know that there is to know about bass fishing. And the more info I'm getting the more hooked I seem to be! Sounds like a good mentality to have on the water. Appreciate the thought.
  6. Thanks but I have to admit, it sure was tempting to bring her home... Thanks! Forums like this is a wealth of knowledge for newbs like me thanks to people like you. Much appreciated. So if I measured a bass's length and girth from sparrow and than the same size bass from Simcoe, the bass from Simcoe would weigh more? Is that possible? Looks like misfish agrees with you too so I'm guessing there is substance to what you're saying. Just wondering how that works out though *Scratches head*
  7. Thanks guys! I measured her with my forearm (Tip of my fingers to elbow). She was a bit longer which would make her about 20", not too sure about the girth though. Sounds like good info to know for next time! How would I calculate weight based on length and girth?
  8. Left her right where I found her, otherwise I'd be weighing her at home.
  9. So I drove out to Lake Sparrow this morning with a couple buddies, my bro and my GF. My GF and I got our own boat and followed the leader, who was more familiar with the lake, to a nice patch of weeds. I decided to go in a lil deeper and drop the anchor to do some jigging. Within minutes I caught this guy. I really only started bass fishing a few weeks ago, so this is by far the biggest bass I've ever caught. The questions is how heavy is it??? I got estimates ranging from 5-7lbs. What do you guys think? I was guessing around 5.
  10. I'm a bit of a newbie myself but what I found works really well for me when flipping is a tube jig with a weighted hook. Jig it up about a foot just like you would with a worm and then give it some time to sink, as the weight is light and it'll take time. Just be sure to watch the line since there won't be tension on it as it's sinking. Anyone have any thoughts on this method? I just started playing around with different ways of putting on weights with different plastics and found this to work best. Hope this helps
  11. Thanks for the reassurance that I made the right decision Johnny. We probably will end up renting a boat, going to look into the place youre suggesting.
  12. I guess I'm working a little backwards but I decided to do a search on old posts regarding fishing from a canoe. Seems like quite a few people have flipped their boats. Considering me and my gf are both fairly new to fishing I think we may just have to pass on the canoe unless anyone has some helpful advise? last thing I want to do is flip a canoe with my gf in it, wouldn't hear the end of it.
  13. Does anyone have a reccomendation? I was looking to rent a canoe with my girl friend this coming weekend to do some fishing in scugog. We've typically rented boats but $$ start adding up when you go every weekend. We've never fished from a canoe before so any tips would also be appreciated. Please help the newbie... =)
