40 years ago on this day- Canada's worst air disaster occurred today when a small two-seater Cessna plane crashed into a cemetery early this afternoon in central Newfoundland. Newfie search and rescue workers have recovered 826 bodies so far and expect that number to climb as digging continues into the evening.

Three weeks ago was my 47th birthday and I wasn't feeling too good that morning. I went to breakfast knowing my wife would be pleasant and say, "Happy Birthday!" and probably would have a present for me. As it turned out, she didn't even say good morning, let alone any happy birthday. I thought, well, that's wives for you, the children will remember. The children came in to breakfast and didn't say a word. So when I left for the office, I was feeling pretty low and despondent. As I walked into my office, my secretary Janet said, "Good morning, Boss. Happy Birthday." And I felt a little better that someone had remembered. I worked until noon, then Janet knocked on my door and said, "You know, it's such a beautiful day outside, and it's your birthday, let's go to lunch, just you and me." I said, "By George, that's the greatest thing I've heard all day."Let's go!" We went to lunch. We didn't go where we normally go; instead we went out to a private little place. We had two martinis and enjoyed lunch tremendously. On the way back to the office, she said, "You know, it's such a beautiful day. We don't need to go back to the office, do we?" I said, "No, I guess not." She said, "Let's go to my apartment." After arriving at her apartment she said, "Boss, if you don't mind, I think I'll go into the bedroom and slip into something more comfortable". She went into the bedroom and, in about six minutes, she came out carrying a huge birthday cake -- followed by my wife, children, and dozens of our friends, all singing Happy Birthday. And I just sat there --on the couch -- naked. Hope your Birthday turns out better Brian

Great Lake's ecosystem continues to change

oh i wouldnt be too sure about that ...granted it isnt what it used to be but when brown and lakers are turning up in larger than normal sizes...it translates for the salmon to follow suite....from the declining sizes of 2000 - 2008/9 the fish are on the rebound and looking very healthy (more girth then length) and it isnt uncommon to drive over 1/4 mile clouds of baitfish as it used to be pre 2000.....i expect to see a rapid increase to the tyees of yesteryear on Lake Huron ...we are a little over halfway there IMO Cheers -

I think the buoys are about a half mile out in South...to prevent people from getting too close to the "old" long dock remains that used to shoot out to the island....no i didnt bring a rod...it would have been tough fish to say the least with the waves and wind...not to say its impossible but it wouldnt have been easy... heres another from the same night...
-
Thanks Rick....they are lighted buoys for comming in and going out of the Saugeen River....i can be a bit tricky out there because Chantry Island isnt too far away and there are markers for going in behind the island....people ruin stuff all the time out there when they dont know what to do ....Port Elgin is a bit tricky too...
