  1. That whole helicopter cutting device looks like a bad idea.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I'll type in any number I fined.
  3. Trying to figure out what year a motor was made. Looks like this one http://lloydminster.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-boats-watercraft-other-4-hp-Mercury-2-stroke-outboard-motor-W0QQAdIdZ508924175 Somebody here might have one like it. I'm guessing mid 80s maybe early 90s but who knows. Alternatively, where on the motor is the stamp or sticker? Looked everywhere. Many thanks.
  4. Read what the manufacturer says. Email them if needed. Failing that check out what others have done via web searches. There is tons of advice out there. Are they Gore or some derivative? I've heard that Nikwax can do wonders for repelling water but it won't fix holes which it sounds like you might have.
  5. I can spot poison ivy travelling 120kmhr in on the highway! I now know all its different shapes and sizes, colours, and plant associations. Peterborough is one of the worst areas it seems, but in general it's free standing and short. More south it is much taller and vines a lot. Away the best treatment is oral prednisone and a topical cortisone. You may need to tell the doc that you would like prednisone. I have a repeat prescription. Last time I got it was about this time last year. Don't cover it. Keep it dry. Sunlight soap is good for drying it out in the shower. A hair dryer helps to dry the affected areas out really well and then hit it with the cortisone cream. You need to taper off the prednisone. Poison ivy doesn't grow well on the Shield although there are exceptions e.g., east side of Algonquin Park. I even found it in Edmonton. Peterborough is bad for it. For working in the yard I have to cover up and be pretty aware of where I am. I wash my boots with grease cutter and wash hands and ankles if needed with the orange automotive soap. I hate the plant and use liberal amounts of Roundup. Fortunately I have no other allergies e.g., grass, ragweed! Best of luck.
  6. Likely means the population is pretty small or you always catch most of the fish, and catch and release can work very well.
  7. Rank with some of the best I've seen. What are you using for gear? Wow.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions. I might try this Diamond Deck vinyl http://www.homedepot.ca/product/5-feet-x-3-feet-metallic-graphite-door-mat/998345 if it's not too heavy. Astroturf wouldn't show any marks but where can you get it?
  9. Anyone have bright ideas to prevent wader boot cleats (studs) from chewing up a plastic canoe (Royalex). I'm looking from something to provide a little protection but it must be light (e.g., floor stickers, diamond plate mat, etc.). Need to cover a 2 x 3' area at the bow and stern.
  10. Sure fire method of staying dry if your floor leaks ... and they all do eventually just like waders. Use a light weight tarp. MEC has a few. Use it outside during the day. I still use the ground sheet, which is a little smaller the the tent, in some places to protect the bottom from puncture.
  11. Check out The Anti-Science Left you might be on to something.
  12. This has change. Most fish and wildlife dollars come from licence fees - a real problem when the number of anglers is dropping each year.
  13. Liberals have messed up but would Tim Hudak do any better for MNR? Would he follow in Mike Harris' footsteps? Case of lesser of two evils? Conservatives are typically anti-science and less willing to accept change. NDP the answer?
  14. Hey Lew, walk over to the trestle bridge and on river right just upstream you can see lots of walleye.
  15. My line is green not white. It's hard to see and half the diameter of equivalent mono. Even 10lb can cut into your hands. As mentioned, it floats and has no stretch. What not to like. For knots I'll keeping trying the 'Nanofil' knot aka palomar with a double loop and try some others on the net. I'll adjust the reel brakes which will help a lot. BTW it effortlessly cast a mile. It's a sweet rig. I went 1 for 3 the first outing and would have had more if I was getting tangles etc fixed.
  16. Without getting into a debate about Nanofil I'm interested to know what you are using for a knot. I'd like to use a simple knot for tying with cold hands and poor light conditions. Having one knot that works for mono, floro, braid, and fused would be a bonus but not likely. I've been testing lines in my garage using a digital weighing scale. Using Trilene or Raven 12lb test I'm getting line breaks at 15-17lbs using a Trilene knot! The fishing fool knot seems to work ok for nano. This involves two loops through the eye and then a uni knot. I can't seem to get the suggested Nanofil knot (double Palomar) to work. The other knot, double Albright, is hellish to tie. My frustration with this line stems from fishing for steelhead with 10lb Nanofil on a Calutta D200 for the first time. First time on a baitcaster was frustrating enough nevermind the knot breakage I thought baitcasting would be easy but I get less tangles Walis casting on a pin! Keep in mind I've got the anti-backlash dial turned way down so I free spool. I might need to change this. Before I pack it in with this line and put some mono on I'd like to hear some friendly advice. Thanks
  17. This is a really great documentary. Fisherman and any Canadian will find this entertaining and provoking. Leaves me speechless and angry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM-pkQTGDEU It's long but interesting the whole way through. Good for a day like this. It helped me connect the dots about what has been going on in BC the last few years, Harpers governance style, big industry, and what the public can do. Norwegians can take their farmed Atlantic salmon and ...
  18. I have a 2007 3L AWD 145k. I pulled a 16.9 ft Legend and skidoo skandic without issue. The Subs can't pull, didn't have as many features, and suck about the same gas. The car has been great. Tires wipers etc. replaced but nothing close to major has gone wrong. Makes me think Ford is alright. Got stuck twice in deep snow but able to get out both times. I have driven a 2010 hybrid version from Kawarthas to Ann Arbor MI and was impressed with the gas mileage and peppiness. I drive a 2012 F150 at work and I'm impressed with the mileage for such a big and capable vehicle. That's some great technology and wish it was in my current Escape. For my next ride I hope Toyota comes out with a diesel 4Runner and downsizes it back to the pre-2003 model. Is Ford doing anything with the Ranger? Best of luck.
  19. I sold a 2004 Legend xcaliber last year. I think you might get 9-12k depending on condition other than scratches. Depends on how worn it looks and how bad the scratches are. Look at other ads for comparison. Good luck.
  20. Wow thanks. I use to watch SFOTF when in Alberta but I don't get the show under my current programming. But it looks like the episodes are on the net. Thanks. Masset - did you watch the story on Russ George dumping iron rich rock into the water. It aired on CBC a few nights ago. 2.5 mil for the promise of fish. Crazy.
  21. I have a soft spot for almost any fishing in BC. The Big Coast is mainly about downrigging with mooching gear but sometimes they go old school with many pulls and heavy sinkers. I much prefer rivers but they they frequently fish Barkley Sound Broken Islands Group part of Pacific Rim NP. I proposed to my wife on a fish/camping trip out on Turret Island. Those Big Coast guys have a wicked little floating cottage in one of the bays. The vistas and wildlife are amazing. I could retire/move there one day.
  22. There is potentially is a lot of harm that can be done. Too long of a story for here. I would also question how raising fish in a hatchery will even come close to what is possible from natural reproduction in terms of numbers and quality of fish.
  23. Two thumbs up for the Fishing Adventurer. He doesn't talk about "products" at all.
  24. Carpet for houses but the velco or snap in out carpet sounds like a good idea. Just take it out and hose it down, hang dry. Anyone done this?
