Enjoy your birthday week my friend, got company coming this weekend but any time you have a day off and want to do some exploring, give me a shout 705-928-8899

Well, since we've down sized I finally have time to do some fishing. Years ago I use to love exploring different areas especially for shore fishing. I've decided to spend some time looking for some new spots and in particular the South East shore (but not limited to) of Simco. Looking for someone in the Lindsay area that would like to ride along could be during the week, could be on a weekend. No cost to you, I'm going anyway (well you can buy a coffee or something once in a while). I like fishing for just about anything and wouldn't mind even scoping out some spots for smelts in the spring. If you are interested PM me and we'll see if we can hook up.

I'm tired of Cogeco, interested in "The Box" NF

Thanks for all the replies and info. CTC had digital antennas on about a month ago, bought one, hooked it up couldn't get even one channel. I read the instructions and it said "must be within 25 miles of a transmitter". Took it back. Geoff, that old laptop I had; well I still have it, it's a little slow but so am I these days. Some of the programs I have on it I can't replace so I'll just keep using it. I do really appreciate your offer though! We don't watch a lot of TV, we like to watch the news in the evening, there is a couple of series that we enjoy, Quantico, Lethal Weapon, The Blacklist.... For the most part I just download those the next day and we watch them when we want and that is free. The reason I am interested in an alternative to cable is that I resent paying for channels that I never use and having to pay extra for the ones I do like to watch from time to time; Discovery, History........ Anyway I think my question has been answered; there is no simple plug and play box out there that will replace my cable without me having to run wires and cables, learn new technology, and save me a lot of money. -
OK so we sign up with Cogeco, Internet is fine, good speed, unlimited. TV, basic package, (oh wait, you want the CTV News channel, that will be an additional $3.00 a month, History channel, Discovery channel, movies...... Just keep adding) . All of a sudden the TV bill is $60.00 a month and I don't have much of anything. I keep hearing about the "box" for TV and prices seem to be anywhere between $50.00 and $300.00 but I don't know anything about these things so I am asking for help and advice. Why the huge difference in prices? Who has one What make is it What did it cost How simple is it to setup/operate Why did you choose the one you have If you were doing it all over again, would you buy the same one Anyone on here sell them What should I know before spending the money (pros/cons) Remember guys (and gals) I'm not the brightest bulb in the string so please keep it simple. All help and comments very much appreciated

Fishing forums that appreciate a fishing report?
Big Cliff replied to manitoubass2's topic in General Discussion
Just for the heck of it I once posted the GPS co-ordinates to a favorite fishing hole, it was a spot right out in front of our place and I could see it from the window. Never did see one boat out there, funny thing was, it was a REALLY good walleye hole! That said however post that you caught some nice walleye or crappie and anyone that knows you probably knows pretty close to where you were fishing (at least in my case because I didn't have a trailer for my boat and a lot of people know me). Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Post about pan fish, smelts, perch, creak or river fishing, things like that and you have to be really careful. Post about smaller numbers but bigger fish, you get a whole different caliper of people interested. No one brush paints everything. -
If it's from Lindsay and you need me to go check them out, just let me know, will do what ever I can to help! Cliff

As many of you know we sold our big house on the lake and downsized. While I do miss being on the lake for a number of reasons, our new home is very comfortable, closer to town, and a lot less expensive to maintain. (just got my first hydro bill, $109.59 for the month) That being said we do have a few projects that we are going to be undertaking. As usual I always give priority to members of the board when it comes to employing people to do work (as long as it's good for both parties). Project 1: Install new flooring (thinking vinyl plank but we are considering a couple of other products) There is other work involved; removing the old flooring, baseboards..... Project two: Upgrading the bathroom, new vanity, medicine cabinet (has to have three mirrored doors), new toilet, glass doors installed on the shower (that sort of stuff). Painting throughout (place is only 68 X 16) so it isn't going to be a huge job and all the walls have already been washed down with TSP. So, if any of you are in the associated businesses and would be interested in doing the jobs in Lindsay please let me know, not trying to get anything done for nothing, I will get quotes (and I don't always go with the cheapest). Just trying to help out fellow OFCrs PM, or email if you are interested. *[email protected] (remove the *)

Fishing forums that appreciate a fishing report?

I check the board almost every day and read anything that catches my attention. I don't always comment; how many times can you say "wow, nice fish, looks like a fun time, congratulations........." It doesn't mean I don't enjoy reading them I just don't have anything constructive to add. I don't care what the water temperature was or how deep the fish were, as in your case I'll probably never be fishing where you were and if I did I'd probably want to be fishing with you anyway. I don't post much in the way of fishing reports or fishing related pictures, I got slammed way too many times for trying to be helpful and giving away too much information: "people know where you live, hey, that's where we fish now everyone is going to fish there, stop telling everyone what to use........". It is easier just to say nothing! I like to try to help others whenever I can so I do post things that I think might be helpful to others. Over the years given away (or sold for next to nothing) a lot of stuff; ice huts, fishing gear, furniture...... anything I have that I think might help someone else and that I don't need anymore. Even then I seem to get criticized. I enjoy reading your (and many others) posts on here but if I don't comment don't take it personally! -
X 3 and his prices are reasonable.

From now on the only thing I'll post about is catching fish/not catching fish. Never post pictures anymore because some people got offended because it might give up a spot. now I shouldn't speak my mind! Easiest way is to say nothing, do nothing, be a zombie!

Sorry, my bad! Won't happen again!

When I joined the army in 65 I was making $90.00 a month. I took every course I could and by the time my term was up (3 years) I was making almost $300.00 a month and thought I was rich. Yup, beer in 65: $0.10 a glass. Smokes $0.35 a pack. A tattoo $20.00 (I have the ship on my arm to prove it ) LONG STORY LOL! I can still remember gas at $0.25 a gallon, a movie with chips and a pop was $1.25, a train ride from Hudson Heights to Como (might have been 10 miles) cost $0.05 (if you got caught and had to pay). Sure things have changed, back in those days there was no such thing as "mothers allowance". My dad died, my mother went out and got a job and raised her two boys. At 12 years old I knew how to do laundry, make dinner, shovel a driveway and path, thaw water pipes in a crawl space using a blow torch....... At 15 I was working full time, $3.00 a day was good money back then, I started at 2 am and if everything went well I would get home in time to start supper for my brother, my mom, and I. They were the good old days (I am not being sarcastic here, they were GOOD).

Well first off I HATE MUSKIE! I have never been "mine's the biggest" kind of guy (well ok I'm a guy so perhaps once or twice ) I would much rather come home with a nice feed of pan fish or walleye than catch a muskie (no disrespect meant to those that have dedicated their lives to trying to say "mine is the biggest and be able to show a picture of it" ). So today I decide it's time for Big Cliff to pick up the fishing rod again, grabbed some worms and a chair (can't stand for very long anymore) and I headed out. First stop was looking for some black walnuts, to late the furry little buggers beat me to it this year. Found myself sitting on a dock on the Scugog river just down the road from our new place. Set up a drop shot rig baited with some juicy night crawlers, cast out and sat back. It wasn't 2 minutes and fish on. It ran, it pealed line, I thought "I've got a nice walleye" and then it jumped! Now on 6 lb test line with no leader I know most of you have already figured out what the end result was. Yup there it was gone! Well it was fun for a couple of minutes, re rig, re bait, cast out again. Perch, double headers and lots of them but all small, biggest was about 8" but ok it was still fishing then wham!. Yup, another muskie, it swam, it ran, same results! Ended a couple of hours with about 50 perch, one small mouth, and three, yes three muskie all on worms (no, I didn't land any of the muskie, and no, none of them were more than maybe 25 or 30")but it was still a lot of fun!

That sure is a beautiful picture Lew, have you ever thought about getting it put on to canvas? Congratulations my friend, now how about sharing your secret to such a long and wonderful marriage with all the young ones on here

<$40.00 a month, I'd say you are doing ok!
-
I guess you are right, I just keep thinking that there are people out there that could use these things and it's such a shame to throw them in the dump. I realize that they aren't brand new but they are in perfect condition. Oh well.

I have a couch that is in excellent condition, no stains, torn or worn fabric and it is very clean. It is free to anyone that wants it, pick up only in Lindsay. I also have a recliner chair (about the same vintage) slightly darker in color that is also free to anyone that can use it. Email me @ [email protected] or call me 705-928-8899

wagjag deal, ice fish Simcoe on the cheap
Big Cliff replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
Has anyone used Lucky's Sons? Sounds like a good deal but I'd want to know more about the operator before I put my money up. I used Tim Hale's a couple of times last winter and was very pleased with the service, the huts, and the fishing. -
My condolences to you and the families. The penalties for impaired/distracted driving need to be increased significantly.
-
I've done a lot of night fishing for walleye, a slow moving, shallow running crank bait in shallow water close to shore has been one of my best producers. My favorite has always been firetiger patterns but I've had plenty of success with other things too.
-
90% of all the walleye I caught in the 16 years I lived on Sturgeon lake were right off my dock in 3-5'FOW (our record was 14 walleye in 1.5 hours for two of us)

I am in need of a lawnmower, gas, very basic, doesn't have to be running, doesn't need to be a self propelled or be a bagger but would like to have something that the wheels and deck are still in reasonable condition. Same thing with a trimmer, doesn't have to be running but would appreciate something that is still intact so I can fix it up. If anyone has something they would be willing to part with please send me a pm.

So sorry to hear this Bruce, hang tough my friend!
