  1. my vote is also for the shimano citica!! i just got one and used it last weekend, reeled in over 20 pike, largest was 9lbs! its such a smooth reel! cant be happier!
  2. ahhhh yess on faithful old little cleo! nice!! i really need to get down there one of these days, been to busy working at the waterfront inn and just staring out the window on the 8th floor at the river lol
  3. i get some plywood and a box of 3" nails, nail them about every inch and put them infront of your door and nail the plywood under your windows. that will slow them down a bit when your not there. ya i definitely wouldnt be running out there after him, not that bright but it was your natural reaction when someone or something is taking something from you. my foreman told me a story about a few years ago when he was up fishing some back lake for a few days, he had a tent/camp site all set up and when he got back from fishing a bear went through his cooler and all he found left were 2 packages of hotdogs weiners. he said the one had teeth marks and that was it. For a bears that are known to hang out in garbage dumps and eat garbage but wont touch hotdog weiners really makes you wonder whats in them hahaha!!
  4. even though im as smart as a pylon i dont wanna look like one hahaha! i want a multi purpose jacket! so far i found this one http://stores.snowmobiletrinkets.com/FXR/2...lack_sx__2_.jpg its the fxr flotex jacket, it says its not an actual floatation jacket but it can keep you buoyant up to 2hours, im pretty sure if i fell into the drink that i wouldnt last 2hours haha!
  5. dont big fat momma walleyes come into the shallows at night in the fall(i know they do in the summer to) and go on the feeding fenzy before winter? ive always caught my biggest eyes in 2-5feet of water in the fall on cranks like x-raps, might just be the lakes im fishing.
  6. haha well with ice fishing you dont need ice for the fish, toss them on the ice and they turn into torpedos quick haha!! and there is no down time for me for fishing either! the last 2 years im sliding the boat across the ice to get to the main lake then the next weekend im tip toeing across thin ice to get on some eyes lol. then in the spring im out on the ice till its to far to jump from shore to the ice then the next weekend out smelt and steelie fishing. but when the weather is getting cold i start going through inventory to make sure im all set when the time comes. does anyone have any links for floatation jackets that look like a normal looking winter jacket?? or any suggestions? thanks
  7. So i almost like ice fishing more then soft water fishing. i love jumping on the sled, breaking trail into a remote northern ontario lake that cant be accessed in the summer and finding spots on a lake and pulling that fish through a small hole, such a rush! I think about ice fishing all summer long and all winter long i think about summer fishing haha i guess i always have something to look forward to. So the weather forecast is calling for snow this weekend in the algoma district and that is really getting me thinking about ice fishing. i'm getting a list of what i need for the sled so its good and ready and im going through what i need for lures, rods, new auger blades, etc. Something i want to buy this fall is a floatation jacket to be ready for the worst. now can i just get away with a jacket and that will keep me afloat or do i need the pants to? also are there any "cool" jackets out there for not a crazy price? those bright orange helly hansen suits are just plain ugly(sorry guys that own and wears one)i want a regular looking jacket that i can keep afloat but also something i can wear sledding or going to the out on the town without looking ridiculous.
  8. ya i say fish some back lakes, places where that big fast expensive boat of yours can't go. try new waters and an attack plan and actually doing it and learning how to fish new lakes. also some hot "assistants" would really add to it also!
  9. hahaha! ya gonna get raped for this one lol! ahhh well! go join P3TA!
  10. nope the lake wasnt ranger lake! no pike in ranger lol! i mentioned the seagul thing cause i did so poorly for birds, kinda like karma bit me in the ass lol! and i like your thinking billm lol
  11. you cant tell you havent tried this, i always do, thinking i never would actually hit one, and well i did, it was a first ever so mehhh
  12. So friday after work my buddy and i loaded up the truck and we were off to pick up a buddy that was on the way out of town. We picked him up and we were off. I was driving down 4th line and this seagul is on the ground and starts taking off so i speed up and i freaking smoke the thing and it goes rolling over my hood haha!! i tried sooo many times to hit birds and squirrels on the ground but never seem to be successful hahaha!! i was like well boys first kill of the weekend and we havent even left town yet! turn out my buddys mom was driving the other way and she seen me hit it and said it walked away. So we drive to the end of the ranger lake road and then up hwy 129 about 15km. then its another 15km through a rough bush road with lots of rocks and mud. We make it to the lake and get camp set up. We were staying in a tent and we are hoping it doesnt get to cold and it didnt thankfully. The next morning we get up and we head out onto the lake and my motor is running like a bag of crap and all i can smell is gas, like i blew a gas line or something. so i turn around and head back to shore. we looked over the motor and couldnt find a thing wrong with it, so we said screw it go out there anyways and if it quits we got my minn kota and paddles to save your butts, we dont want a fishing trip completely flopped cause of a motor(been there done that). i get back out on the lake and the thing runs perfect!! we didnt do a thing to it! i figure the float in the carb got stuck and hand bombing it around loosened whatever it was up. So we get out fishing and we fished for the day. We boated well over 40 pike, we actually lost count. The largest pike of the day was a 9lber. we also got a few 6-7lbers, and a bunch of 3-5lbers. i went trolling over this one rock drop off and i hook into a 7lber. im stopped unhooking the fish while my buddy is casting and he hooks into a 6lber and theres a 7-8lber trying to steal the crankbait from the other pike. i never seen this with pike before, only bass. after i get mine unhooked i start casting again and second cast i get the 9lber! what a great fight and she even jumped in the air! that pike completely swallowed my thunderstick, while i was dealing with that my other buddy gets a 4lber and my other buddy hooks a 5lber getting a double header. while they are dealing with those fish i throw on another lure and i cast out and this massive 15-20lber just slowly follows my crankbait in and when it sees the boat it slowly swims away like it doesnt even have a care in the world, that fish will haunt me haha!! It was probably the most 20min of intense fishing ever. We ran into 2 other guys fishing there, only other boat on the lake and they only got one 12" pike the whole day hahaha!! The next morning i got up and went for a little walk along a footpath that runs along part of the lake, i get about 50feet from the tent and i see a partridge standing there and i blasted him, and got a clean head shot, that definitely was a good wake up call to my 2 other buddies that were still sleeping haha!! That remington wingmaster 20g worked great! not a pellet in the breast! That was only bird of the weekend, also missing 3birds on the way out cause of the truck and dealing/fighting with 2 other idiots in the truck fighting over whos gonna shoot what hahaha! ahhh well, i'll get out again and get a few more and hopefully be a little more organized! Theres some pics of the 9lber and one decent pike eater pike. (i had to keep the 9lber, it swallowed my 3 treble hook crank) and theres a pic of the storm thunderstick that the pic couldnt get enough off, lots of battles scars for one day of fishing haha! hope you enjoyed my little report!
  13. i just picked up the citica and used it for the first time this weekend and so far i love it. i pulled in a number of nice pike with it, the largest weighing in at 9lbs! i havent tried the curado so i cant say anything on that.
  14. i had the magellan explorist 500 but with the regular batteries like you would find in a cell phone. i bought it last year for $150 and it was $50 for the maps of ontario. it took HOURS to try and figure out how to upload those maps and you gotta be some kinda computer god to figure the crap out. once that was figured out and done and i got to use it for a while i really liked it. this summer i was hiking into a hike and on the way back to the truck i lost the damn thing. so i've been in the market for another one and ive been looking at getting the same one because i'll have all extra chargers and mounting brackets and all that. but seeing is how magellan no longer supports the explorist anyone want all that stuff???
  15. isnt WD-40 a degreaser not a lube??!?!? i only use wd-40 to take oils and greases off of things and to help loosen up seized bolts. then i use an actual lube after. but to each their own
  16. thanks for all the great info craig ritchie! ya i want to try other brands but when i was at crappy tire those were the only 20g shells they had. i think i'm gonna head over to wallys world and see what kind of selection they have to offer. i'm a real newbie at this so expirementing is a must if i want to learn!
  17. so tonight i said screw it, im just gonna go fire it! live a little on the wild side!! i went to a gravel pit out of the city limits and i took the first shot at my hip incase the worst happens! and it fired perfectly! i set up some plywood and i fired at that to figure out what my patterns are like before i aim at a bird. i bought #4 and #6 shells to see what i liked before and the #4s blow the backside of the plywood out. the 6s do not, they dont do as much damage so im gonna go with the #6s. i bought the upland shells from canadian tire for upland game birds, rabbits and squirrels. and my gun says the 2 3/4 so thats what i got, definitely wont screw around with other sizes. so im all set for this weekend, the gun works flawlessly! look out partridge, im a comin' for ya! and please dont tip them off that im coming hahaha!
  18. i have the shimano rod your talking about and i bought it at full price and it was well worth the money. i love this rod soooo nice. i got it in the 6'6" medium fast action spinning rod. im not sure exactly on the IM6 or IM7. has a sticker that says HC-SF and the details say shimano bis-66mb2 length 6'6" line wt:6-14lb lure wt: 18-5/8oz power: medium action fast. i highly recommend this rod. it feels and acts like a $200 rod but at a much cheaper price and i have caught ALOT of fish with it and decent sized ones to! go get 5 of them haha!
  19. ya good idea with the plastics hulls, i didnt know such a thing existed. im suppose to go with my buddy peter tonight and hes been around guns his whole life with a grandfather being a gun collector and him owning over 67 guns himself. hes suppose to show me how to clean it and proper maintenance on it but still gonna worry firing the first couple shells
  20. thanks everyone!! i am a bit nervous about shooting for the first time seeing i how its been sitting for so long. and ya i wouldnt rule out a 12g but as a beginner and without the greatest shot theres a good chance i'd blow the birds to pieces. i'm heading up to aubery falls for the weekend for some hunting and fishing so there should be a report on its way next week!
  21. So after finally jumping through all the hoops i finally got my PAL and did my hunting course, i was in the market to buy a gun. i was looking for a new one. i planned on doing partridge hunting with some possible rabbit hunting. i wanted a little more power then just a .410 but not a 12g so i was looking for 20g shotguns. i was looking through forums and doing research and everyone cant seem to get enough of the remington 870s and priced right i decided thats what i'd get. I spoke with my grandpa and i told him what i'd been up to and that i was gonna buy a gun. he told me he had one and that he'd give it to me. and i was like great probably some odd ball from 1922 and you cant find any ammo for itanymore haha. he went home and checked out what he had and he called me and he said it was a remington 20g pump action and it had been sitting in his closet for about 20years! what are the odds of that??? So the other night i went over and transfered everything over. He had told me it was my great grandfathers gun and when he died he got his hands on it but never used it. the thing is in almost perfect condition, it is the wingmaster model. i had called remingtion and gave them the serial number and they said it was made in 1954. its great to get something past down and i plan on taking extremely good care of it(im bad for breaking things) this gun is not gonna go anywhere but get past down to my kids or grandkids someday. i plan on taking it out and shotting it tomorrow to check the patterns before i take a shot at a bird. anything i should look over before firing considering its been sitting for so long? everything looks very clean. watch out this weekend partridge, i'm coming for ya!
  22. hey leave some fish down there for me!!! great report and these are all caught right in down town sault ste. marie!! great place to live!
