  1. well i guess you just caught the stupidest fish in the lake. i have to agree those ugly sticks can take a beating but they feel like a pile and i'd never buy one but that should make THAT much of a difference. its the user not the rod. im sure if he went out there with a $300 loomis he would have got 2 fish. i suggest when this happens change techniques like retrieve speeds, lures of different sizes colours and depths. if they dont want a steak meal give them a shrimp. and that largie does not look 4.75lb, looks like it might be pushing 4lb max but it could just be the picture
  2. dara run a #10 x-rap, you will catch 50-60 pike not just a tiny 20-30pike. i've caught over 60pike in one day on one x-rap, had to change the hooks twice that day cause they were bent out of whack and snapping off. went the weekend after and got 50 pike and no can't tell you the lake on here. pm me and i'll guide you in the right direction! all nice sizes to and from cold water! also theres zero weeds in this lake, no grass mowing!
  3. theres the only pic i can seem to upload! all my pics are off the digi cam and all are to large to upload and im to computer stupid to figure out how to resize them! caught on a #10 x-rap silver with 8lb test and a steel leader. x-raps and storm thundersticks are money for pike, dont forget long steel leaders
  4. hes done a quite a few shows in the sault area. my buddys dad phil goes along with man tracker. i was at bbqs and what not with them. they do the actual thing then they go back and do shots, its pretty legit so they say.
  5. my go to lure for smallies are the #8 rapala x-rap slashbait or the #6 x-shad rap. colours vary with lake to lake and weather and such. clown, olive, silver, etc have always been producers
  6. once you pass the aubery falls generating station you head about about another 10km. on the right theres a huge camping place, i believe theres power and everything, the place always seems packed and may be hard to get a good spot
  7. ya definitely a good idea bringing a spinning rod as back up when that extremely nice setup goes flying into the lake hahaha! just keep trying it, i've been using mine off and one this season and i finally got a good feel for it and starting to feel confident with it.
  8. nice work! now lets see the last pic with a fish hanging off it!
  9. hey guys, last friday my buddy and i headed out towards aubery falls to probably my favorite pike lake of all time. We stayed from friday night till monday evening. Saturday we fished the lake in the pouring rain, within the first minute of fishing my buddy hooks into a fish and while i shut down the motor i start casting while hes unhooking his fish, i hook into another pike that was around 2lbs and as im unhooking it the pike goes nuts and i drop the fish and the one hook goes right into my knuckle and the fish is hanging from my hand and i rip the hook out right away barb and all and the blood just comes pouring out, way to start the weekend haha!! but we did get 31 pike from 10am-4pm, ok fishing considering the weather and we took back 7 small pike and one very small pike that its gills got mangled. Saturday night we packed up our gear and headed north a just little ways past aubery to a small lake that was suppose to contain pike and walleye. we camped there and in the morning we fished it hard all day throwing our tackle boxes out there and not even a follow up. first and last time i got there haha, not to often i get skunked, especially pike fishing.so we loaded the truck and booted it back to the other pike lake from the day before. and we fished from 7pm-9pm. We were fishing this honey hole of mine and my buddy is unhooking a fish and the thing goes nuts and gets 2 hooks in the palm of the hand and my pliers go flying in the lake hahaha and he goes "now i know how you felt on saturday" but we did end up getting 17more pike. the one pike we got was a fat pig and had a small whitefish in him. monday we slept in cause of the rain again till the crack of noon and fished from 12-3pm in the rain and got another 9pike before we packed it in and headed back home. so it was an ok weekend getting only 57 pike throughout the weekend and battling the rain, finger hooks which have never happened to either of us before and i hope they dont happen again for a while, and the skunking on a pike/walleye lake. but we had a pretty good time! and all fish were caught on x-raps or storm thundersticks and the pics definitely wont upload GREAT just typed all this grrrrrr
  10. crankbaits work wonders on pike, x-raps, husky jerks, thundersticks. im unsure of the lake and what the water type is and the type of bait fish in there, i'd get a few "natural" and get a few bright coloured ones and find out which ones go to what depths and pick the ones for what depth you want to fish. this past weekend i was fishing for pike and i was casting shallowing diving x-raps and thundersticks in 30feet of water and decent pized were coming up from the depths for them.
  11. perfect! good to hear! gonna send my reel away and do the exchange for the citica
  12. hey guys, this spring i ordered a cabelas fish eagle 7'medium/heavy rod and the daiwa megaforce reel, and well the megaforce is a pile and the gears are messed up in it and i highly dont recommend it. So i called cabelas and i'm thinking an exchance/upgrade to the shimano citica reel and i wanted to get opinions on this before i get another turd of a reel. i know its not a curado but thats a little out of my price range. also that fish eagle rod is a great quality rod!! http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...t20285&rid= also i picked up one of them shimano bob izumi signature 6'6" spinning rods which i also really like and really broke it in one the weekend getting 57 decent pike between me and my buddy, but what i'm wondering what kind of warrenty does it have? theres no piece of paper that comes with it like other shimano rods.
  13. they are also at crappy tire and wallys world
  14. drive to the end of the ranger lake road, take a left and drive about 7-8km and you will see aubery falls generating station, keep going a little farther, take a right and there you go. its about 120km up the 129 from thessalon
  15. Ya from kitchener its a good 8hours, definitely not worth the drive unless you have the proper truck and boat or a 4wheeler to get to the lakes. If you have those then you can get in on some great fishing around here, its some pretty rough country around here. i'll do guiding for you southern ontario guys wanting to come up here and get on good fishing haha ya but Orest is a special guy that just loves talking about fishing dont matter if its a pro or some weirdo down at the river, he certainly loves his job and hes the perfect guy for it to. Dr. Salevlinus if you talk my boss into giving me payed day off or you can match the amount that im getting then i'll go with ya any day of the week haha! I just live on top of the hill and i rarely ever go down to the river to fish. i can't wait for this long weekend, gonna lay into mass piles of big pike and maybe some wallys up by aubrey falls this weekend, definitely gonna be roughing it!
  16. hahaha garbage bag posse! i swear when the salmon are running its a full moon cause all the weirdos come out! i say the farther away from the bus terminal the better if you even dare going down there haha!! They all think that your a fellow fisher so you are their best friend and they always tell you their life story and that they are amazing fisherman when they are using these monster rod and reels from 1980 and 50lb test that looks even older casting out buzz bombs. You never want to catch a fish around them either cause they all start walking over to you like zombies to come talk to you to see the fish and see what your using. catch a fish and run!!!
  17. ya the cigar store in romes is called holy smokes and the place is pretty sweet! they sell everything from cheap 50cent ones to $200 cigars, have in mind what you want cause they dont always let ppl in, they just ask what you want and they bring it out to you, to many ppl stealing cigars. thats pretty well the only place in town and if you want a good variety of cheap cigars like caption blacks and bullseye cigarellos and what not go to the trading post heading out north on the way out of town.
  18. justin that sounds like a snag master and more of a hassele then anything. i really like using the 2/5 or 3/4 little cleos in rainbow, hammered silver/green, hammered silver/blue and for the pixies i've used the silver and pink. also mepps #3 or #4 aglias or blue fox vibraxs.
  19. i very nice setup is the shimano sojourn for $39.99 at crappy and order the shimano synocate 2500 spinning reel or the spirex if you wanna spend a bit more but i dont like the double handle on the spirex. a great place for getting the rod and reel is ebay, lots of great deals. i got my synocate for $9.50 new. i wouldnt settle or a cableas rod and go with the shimano.
  20. i would hope that fish didnt have aids haha! this is gonna break out into a whole new swine flu type thing maybe call it slime flu? oooo that was a growner lol
  21. xraps and husky jerks and jigs with mr.twisters for pike, walleye, etc. for salmon and rainbows little cleos, other spoons and blue fox or other spinners. lots of good places you just gotta do some exploring and playing around, there is alot of fish in there.
  22. bahaha a tent?? i question going out in a boat with them! even leaving the city and going out in the bush makes me nervous haha!
  23. BAHAHA! no not i! that is my buddy dave! ya hes a little different as you can see! we are there fishing and hes like hey guys you should see the thong im wearing! and we are like what the hell!?!?! and hes like check it out guys and well there you have it! it was quite funny! thank god i dont have pictures of my buddy mike, lets just say he loves to be naked LOL!
