  1. I don't know about you guys but I start planning and thinking about my spring trip as soon as the snow flies the previous year so its been a long winter thinking about it and anticipating the good times with friends and catching those shallow lakers ! As well as the sights , sounds and smells of spring in the bush are indescribable , you just have to experience it !
  2. This is why I still buy them , if it was something else I would of gave up long ago !
  3. I have been a member of the OFAH for 20 years and I have bought my book of tickets from almost day one and I have never won a thing ! Kinda makes me wonder if my tickets are even in the draw when I send them back You have to figure after 20 years I would win at the very least a pen or something ! Maybe this will be my year , or maybe not !!!!!
  4. I have to agree , there is no better time of the year to be in the backcountry of this province (September is a very close second) I have a trip planned to a mighty fine lake trout lake for the begining of May.Plan away everyone
  5. That happens as well with beer when you leave them outside to cool to long ,as soon as you open it , it freezes up on ya right in front of your eyes . I kinda wonder why that happens myself !
  6. Great video as always Steve and I have seen that too but it was another lake trout in its gullet , those things are pigs !
  7. Ya , lakers will eat those guys no problem . I was fishing on Joe last year and a friend of mine caught a big laker (15lbs) and it had a 20" laker sticking out of its mouth .
  8. Thanks Raf , I need something that is fairly portable that can fit in/on a pack or on an atv (thermarest style) so those big matresses are out.I was looking at those down mats but i'm not sure !
  9. I have an older thermarest that I use for my backwoods adventures but as I get a little older and I'm a "side sleeper" the shoulders get sore come morning time and I just don't sleep well from the sore shoulders so i'm looking at a new one.I know dragging the sealy posturepedic into the bush is out of the question so i'm wondering what you guys use or suggest. I don't mind spending the money for quality just as long as it has good reviews . Thanks
  10. Glad to hear stories like that , well done
  11. Thanks everyone , I got a hold of someone at Aikmens and they said they could probably fix it but just had to look at it first. The winding thingy on top of the worm gear is not moving and actually the worm gear is not moving either I just have to find the time now to drive it down there !
  12. This is not the case , the reel is called a scorpion metaniun xt
  13. I have a shimano scorpion metanium xt baitcasting reel that I got direct from Japan about 7 years ago ( great reel ) I just discovered that it is in need of repair and i'm not sure where to take it. I would imagine parts for these reels are going to be hard to come by.Has anyone here had any repair issues with these reels or even have one and know of a good repair shop. I thought I would start here before I start taking it apart myself , i'm also going to call shimano direct tommorow and see what they have to say. Thanks
  14. Thanks for letting us share your "fishing life" Well done Moose
  15. I have a pair of Dannier hiking boots that are litterly indestructible as well.I have had them for 8 years and I beat the crap out of them. The only thing that wears out is the laces. They are gore tex which is important as well as a vibram sole that are still good even after 8 years of abuse. I like the leather style boot over the "crosstrainer style" better for all round protection in the bush. They are a bit pricey but worth every penny. One bit of advice that I have learned is no matter what you choose don't skimp out on a pair of boots because of price , just like a good set of rain gear spend the money and you won't be disappointed. Good luck
  16. Looks like a good time Mike , is that the beach at Luna Y Mares, Holguin ,it sure looks like it. I have been there several times and have always seen people fishing around that rocky point. I have walked around there and it sure looked good for fishing,I always wondered what if I brought down a rod ,well by your report I guess I will bring one down with me next time, if i'm allowed Too bad you didn't get that big one in , i'm sure you will be thinking about that fish for a long time !
  17. Thanks guys , I'm going to keep my eyes open for any sales and then grab one !
  18. That is a beauty , well done Steve . That fish is a good 15 lbs and glad to hear it swam away
