I fish GB ALOT .. and I can vouch for girls that big and even bigger in there ... now getting them aboard .. thats another matter .... all I can say is WOW ... nice fish.
-
Funny thing Lew ... but in those days it was long hair, sideburns, denim vests, terra-firma's, platform shoes, velvet shirts and bellbottoms ... now it brushcuts (its been a number two crew-cut for me for the past 10 years at least)

Yep .. happens all the time ... often because I want the duplicates ... when something is working I wanna be able to shar ewith my boatmates ... but often I think I have found the 'perfect' new colour or pattern or size ... and when I get home ... voila ... musta been there already Good thing though is at least I still thinkits a good lure (obviously because I bought it like I had never seen it before) - come to think of it .. maybe the fish wont realize they too have seen it before :)

ebay Theres almost nothing you cant get there ...

Sounds like it might be an alternator to me ... that would be why your battery is not charging .. could also be a toasted battery (sometimes when the battery goes flat it damages the cells) ... will it start with a jump ? If so .. does it die shortly afterward ?

Speck-tac-ular ! Thanks for sharing .... were you 'paddle trolling' the fly or were you casting (We gets lots of fish slow trolling mickey finns and wooly buggers in spring) ... nothing like the sound of the fly reel screaming when a fish hits on a trolled fly ...
-
Sure looks like purdie country douG ! Jeeze ... I was just getting in the mood for some hardwater activities and now ya got me thinkin about the spring opener at the ZEC ... make sure you take two cameras and lotsa batteries

I hear ya Lew ... guess its a good thing I didnt manage to get away today ... its too bad really because it used to be a nice afternoon walk ... I'll probably still do the fishing show ... it is the one time all the guys from WAYYYY up north get down to the city from the many remote camps... I enjoy chatting with em ... hopefully that wont be a disappointment (besides at that time of year theres no point going to the stores ... all their stuff is down at the show

Thanks Brian ... I almost never go to movies ... but when I do you can be sure it will be a chick flick ... its called banking points in this give-and-take world which we live .... personally I wouldnt waste a trip to the theatre on a movie I want to watch .... and so if I am going for her, it might as well be something SHE wants .. and apparantly - according to the ladies - it counts for double points if you go see something couldnt possibly be expected to like ...the secret .. I understand, is to pretend you almost enjoyed it Heh .. and Valentines day conflicts with Lake Trout opening day on Lake Joseph (every year) ... so I am safe (not) ... -
I may head out that way (if I do Ill keep an eye open for ya) - hey wait ...if I remember correctly ... last time we met up like that it was expensive ... maybe I should stay home :) J.

Here a little preach - rant for ya ... We are talking about a tank and a half of gas ... less than what you will probably use for your first weekend trip for something that will last you a life time ! Why do we feel the need to 'save' 5$ or even $20 .... the rule is you will NEVER be sorry that you invested in the best ... but you will almost certainly be sorry you didnt ... and when that time comes ... it will cost you 10 times what you thought you were saving ... and perhaps ruin the trip of a lifetime ... I know that every time I use a toy which I 'splurged' just that little bit extra to get the highest quality I could afford ... I get a bonus of feeling like its christmas - every day - life is sooo short why not enjoy it ... besides ... when you make that 'sacrifice' and comprimise for just good enough - not only do you pay for it in quality - you know it and 'pay' for it in Karma every time you use it. end of rant Now ... to answer your question ... the 'extra' effort to drill your hole is not that much .... but when you are fighting a big whitey, pike or laker and lose it at the hole ... you really don't need to be asking .... jeeze if I only spent the extra $5 and 10 calories of sweat to drill a full size hole I might just have landed her .... for me at least (having lost more than a few BIG fish at the hole ... every extra inch is critical

hmmm ... welll .. depending on how my leafs are doing ...hopefully I'll be glued to the game -
Hand auger - go with the 8" blade about $100 at Le Baron or CDN tire ... ebay has a few as well I would say go with new because you're probably gonna want new blades if you buy used (nothing worse than trying to drill a hole with dull blades) and the blades are about $30 ... but they come with the auger when you buy it new) ... also DO NOT try to sharpen these yourself ... its the fastest way to ruin your auger .. and hurt yourself .. even when dull these blades are RAZOR sharp !

Honestly folks, with the open water we had last week I would say give it at least another week or two ... just because it doesnt give out on your first hundred yards doesnt mean that its safe ... I really dont want to read about any disasters .. especially not for our OFC gang. The good news is the ice is forming fast ... its not a write off yet

I filled up at 70.9 on Saturday ... I was having flashbacks to the 80's ... I actualy got the urge to go on a road trip so I could use up a tank and buy another one and save even more :)
-
Welcome to our gang ... lots of fellow muskie fans here for sure ... and even the odd 'legend or two'

G'Mornin Lew Yeas I was just out shovelling the walk ... I actually enjoyed it ... guess its been too long since our last snow ... it was very slippery in Etobicoke ... please get the salt out guys and lets not have any broken ankles before the first shot at lakers and whities (I think we might just get what we've been asking for ) And be extra careful on the roads ... I know a small army of salters was getting ready last night but I can tell you the side streets are definitely a sheet of ice right now

Heres the thing ... when the shots looks fake because of thephotshopping ... the mind wants to think well how do I know th fish isnt fake (and WE KNOW they are real) ... but it takes somehting away for me. If I recognized one of 'your' holes because you left the trees and stones in ... I'll bet that nobodoy who doesnt already fish that stretch of river will so I dont get it Anyhow enough pontificating ... glad to hear ya had a great day .. I was all set to go too when wifey told me I was taxi for the day ... oh welll ... maybe tomorrow
-
Wow .. looks too cool ... but .. just ot play devils advocate ... because we all wanna toss $20K into our next hut ... by my figuring it would be about a three foot haul from ice level into the vehicle ... need a real long gaff :) :0
-
I was thinking exactly the same thing ... I can see catching them up top ... but over much deeper water ... wow thats more like Speck depth ! Come t think of it the colors on those lakers is something special. Thanks !!! great report .... with this colder weather and all those beauty pictures you got me wanting to travel north NOW ( had everything packed up to head north of haliburton today and chickened out for fear I might not find any ice ... so I spent the day at LeB and CT .... stocking up

I got the Scout XL last year and do like the bigger screen .. to be honest though I was a little disappointed at the visibility (only a few feet even in clear water) once you get down more than 30 or so feet .... I do like watching my minnow from above while ice fishing ... this year I have rigged it up and am gonna try it trolling... did have some issues when an eight pound laker decided to use the cable to wrap around (about 20 times) befre I could get her up through the ice .... it was in a separate hole but needed to be close by or you couldnt see the minnow If you're not fishing near bottom you basically see a back screen most of the time though

I have both Rogers and Telus .. both worth great out on GBAY - at least around Waubaushene through to midland and up to Parry Sound Have been some recent upgrades to Rogers/Fido ... I now get fll coverage al across the muskokas too ... used to only get bell analog service ... now its all god ... and I have been through about 5 phones in the past few years (dont ask) anyhow it seems to be MUCH easier to get signal and get out ... the only challenge I have is up the Kawarthas .. seem to be a little touch and go in some areas... and theres a stretch on the 407 where I swear the CFB is blocking signal .. NEVER get it reliably from near the 400 to Bayview on hwy 407 But I actually keep both because ften when one wont get signal the other does btw I now have a razr (Fido) and an old blackberry 700 series (telus) my wife caries her fido (motorola v300) and we rarely have anywhere from Toronto up to Muskoka where we dont get full signal. By the way alittle trick I learnt a while back ( I use it for my camera as well) ... zip-lock freezer bags .... they do wonders at keeping moisture out - and I zip it up with a little air in it acts like a little pillow to absorb some of the banging around (in the cooler - where I toss em when not in use)

Actually ... makes perfect sense to me ... and I think the marketers are who got everyone all confused .... if they called them 'right handed reels' because they are inteded for use by right handed people ... not because you crank with your right hand .. everyone would get it ! Wayne and spiel ... too bad about the golf .... this normally happened because folks couldnt get their hands on left handed clubs (except at a $$$ premium) so they learnt on right handed clubs .... not that it cant be done .... but the same 'muscle memory' that makes for a good shot in hockey (back, legs, shoulders, arms, hands - all working together) is the same one for golf .... just your hands are a little closer together and the ball isnt moving when you swing at it .... if you play left in hockey ... youll probably play better left in golf ... Anyhow as Lew said ... the key is to be comfortable - FOR YOU .... and there are plenty of folks who have learnt to 'switch hit' - some equally as good on either side ... but thats probably another thread (maybe even on another forum Heck I can use a pair of right handed scissors ....and by the way thats the ONE product I know of where the name is accurate ... dont think we have ever owned a pair of left handed scissors because NOBODY but me would be able to use them in my house ... hey wait a minute .. maybe thats the secret to always being able to find the scissors :)

Its a mistake I make alot ... because the new thread button for the help forum is RIGHT where you would expect the new thread button to be for the main forum ... I wonder if thats somethig that can be configured rick ?
